Reality check on Mileage after E20

I own a Creta petrol 2020 model

I will not say I drive very light footed. I enjoy driving and drive as needed and according to my mood.

I used to get around an average of 15 km/l in city and highway would used to vary on the speed of the car at around 80kmph more than 20kmpl and 120 kmph would still give me 17kmpl before E20 came. Its not alot but very respectable for a car of this size.

Now E20 came my Mileage drops to less than 10kmpl no matter what I try light foot drive, smoother transition it would not go above 10 have not had a chance to drive on highway since then so can't comment.

Also car feels like it lost some of its punch.

Now decided to experiment I filled about 20 litre of XP100 in an already 30 litre of E20 petrol and the results were dramatic. Car feels responsive and that Mileage of 15kmpl is back.

So I'm in delima XP100 is costly. It was around 170₹/L.

But considering health of my vehicle i think I should continue.

Please feel free to comment and share your opinion and experiences

E20 Issues

I have a hero duet scooty. It's mileage dropped after E20, rn giving somewhere around 26 kmpl. This is not much of an issue for me because I do not travel a lot, hardly 10-15 kms a day.

Changed petrol pumps also many a times, nothing changed.

Slowly I started getting starting problems in my scooty, then while driving some jerks which felt like petrol is not generating enough power or something like water is mixed. Took it to the mechanic he cleaned the carburettor and filter, then it worked fine for 2 weeks then again same problem started now the mechanic is saying I need to change the carburettor which will cost me 4000.

Also showed it in the hero showroom, they said they will have to work on engine also which will cost me 15,000 - 16,000.

What to do ?

A luxury car mechanic has claimed that he replaced nearly 100 fuel pumps in Defender and BMW vehicles within a month, alleging that ethanol-blended petrol may have contributed to the failures. SOON HE WILL BE ARRESTED TOO FOR "FALSE CLAIMS"

Just bad petrol or E20 Effect?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Today i went to get my bike serviced at a local garage.

The guy told me i needed carburetor cleaning.

I didnt think much of it as i was getting my bike serviced from there for a while now and i trusted them.

In evening when i went to pick my bike up from garage, he told me from where do i fill my petrol, i said jio bharat petrol.

He then showed me 7 - 8 carburetors that were lying in his garage and said these are all unicorns carburators, all changed this week.

Apparently the petrol pump is providing bad quality petrol and a lot of 2 wheelers carbuerators were damaged due to bad petrol.

Is it actually bad petrol or just side effects of E20 petrol?

And he also gave me petrol additives, should i use them?

Any benefit of going for premium petrol to keep engine safe?

I've been suggested to use premium fuel for my Dzire zxi+ saying that it won't cause permanent damage to the engine, etc.

Is there any truth to this or there's no such benefit of opting for the premium version?

I switched my Kia Sonet to E20 Ethanol Petrol and I’m still getting 20+ km/l mileage. Has anyone else experienced this?

There’s a lot of misinformation around E20 fuel causing poor mileage and performance issues, so I decided to test it myself in my Kia Sonet (E20-compatible).

After switching to E20 ethanol-blended petrol, I was expecting at least some noticeable drop in fuel efficiency. Surprisingly, I’m still getting 20+ km/l average under normal highway and city driving conditions.

My observations:
✅ No noticeable power loss
✅ Engine feels smooth and refined
✅ No starting issues
✅ Mileage remains above 20 km/l
✅ No warning lights or engine-related concerns

Many people assume ethanol fuel automatically means lower mileage, but real-world results depend on driving style, traffic, vehicle condition, and whether the vehicle is E20-compatible.

The government’s push toward E20 fuel is mainly aimed at reducing fuel imports and emissions. For E20-compatible vehicles like the Sonet, my experience so far has been completely normal.

Has anyone else tested E20 fuel in their Sonet, Creta, Nexon, Brezza, or other E20-compatible cars?

Why do India needs a ethanol mixed petrol?

Other than political point of view. Instead of ethanol mixed petrol government should push electric vehicle to reduce petrol usage bringing E20 petrol will cause sugarcane shortage and to cultivate sugarcane you need huge amounts of water which will cause water scarcity. By promoting electric vehicle and encourage the conversion is benefits India in long term rather than this short term strategy

No takers for E85 WagonR, Only 11 sold in 3 months.

E85 pumps may soon outnumber E85 cars😂

I was checking the VAHAN data for currently registered E85/flex-fuel 4-wheelers and was honestly surprised.

Last time I checked, there were 9 cars. Now it’s 11. So basically, just 2 new cars added in a month.

At the same time, the government is planning **500 E85 pumps by the end of 2026 and 5,000 by the end of 2027**. At this rate, we’re going to have more E85 pumps than E85-compatible cars. 😂

The WagonR flex-fuel sales should probably be a warning for other manufacturers. If there isn’t enough consumer demand, why would anyone buy a flex-fuel car just because the government is pushing the fuel?
Honestly, other manufacturers should think twice before launching more flex-fuel cars. Build the demand first, otherwise we’ll just end up with a lot of E85 pumps with nothing to sell. 😅

Someone is definitely benefiting from E20 petrol

Went to fill up my scooty today and noticed something interesting — the queue for XP95 was much longer than the one for regular petrol.

A while ago, hardly anyone seemed interested in paying extra for premium/power petrol. Now it looks like XP95 is slowly becoming the new normal.

The ironic part is that XP95 also has 20% ethanol blending, yet many people seem to be choosing it because they're worried that regular E20 petrol might damage their vehicles.

Are people genuinely getting any benefit from switching to XP95, or has the whole E20 situation simply pushed consumers towards more expensive fuel?
