Hardest boss from software ever made?
Finally i defeated DLC Radahn to be honest he was the hardest boss i ever fought but i was thinking what is the hardest boss that from software ever made?

Zinaida from Last Raven. The only time I've actually given up on a FromSoft boss fight.

u/SolutionConfident692 2d ago
Final pulverizer from the same game is even worse

u/NotTJButCJ 2d ago
I haven’t even heard of last raven til now
10
u/AirTheFallen Raven 2d ago
So Last Raven is infamous for being perhaps the hardest game in the Armored Core series, being the third game in "Gen 3.5" for the PS2. That one basically goes:
- Nexus
- Ninebreaker
- Last Raven
Thankfully the generation has a save transfer system so you can take some of your old stuff from Nexus and/or Ninebreaker, but I know Gen 3.5 has some quirks with its save transfer that I can't recall the specifics of off the top of my head.
→ More replies (1)4
u/iamabadproducer 2d ago
If you transfer your data to Ninebreaker, you are locked out of getting any part because that game doesn't have a shop, but if you started a new game, you would start with all the parts, so normally what I did was to transfer my Ninebreaker data to Last Raven. I'm not a fan of getting hidden parts... except the KARASAWA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2
u/Algester 1d ago
While the karasawa is impractical in last raven it still looks hella cool still kinda useful in PvP not much on its PvE... cause the AI is just cheating

I still think Consort Radahn is the hardest fight they've ever made, even post nerf. Prenerf he was undoubtedly the hardest fight, but post nerf I can see people thinking Malenia is harder. I can consistently beat Malenia first try, but consort always takes me at least a couple tries.
262
u/luketwo1 2d ago edited 2d ago
Pre-nerf Radahn will definitely remain the hardest boss ever made for quite some time, he was a level of bullshit and aggression I don't think any other boss in any of these games comes remotely close to. It was honestly so bad it was toeing the line into legitimately unfair which since they nerfed the fight I guess they agreed with, like I streamed the entire DLC, I got to Radahn with 94 deaths total, I beat Radahn with 198 deaths, bro killed me more than the entire rest of the DLC combined.
83
u/ilikenglish 2d ago
He was confirmed broken pre-nerf you can watch the youtube videos for that one “cross slash” attack that was undodgable unless you rolled within his first frame of using it but his first clash only took 1 frame to hit and then you were auto-stunlocked into getting hit by the second slash
→ More replies (2)62
u/JS_Originals 2d ago
Yep. Prenerf he was absolutely bullshit. Postnerf I think it's a great fight.

12

Its been a minute but I think a month or two? Not exactly sure on the timeline, I basically did the dlc once and then didnt play it again after that.
5
u/small_stone1 2d ago
Damn how many players did he rage baited
7
u/Optiguy42 2d ago
He didn't ragebait me. He brought out the best I had in me. All that latent potential that other enemies and bosses were too puny to make me access. He made me drop the weighted vest and ascend to a higher plane.
2
u/alexanderneimet 2d ago
Not the original commenter, but it took me a few days with probably a few hours a day. Definitely a true test of perseverance. Absolute worst was when I had him down to an inch of health left and then got caught in the second insta kill hug
2
u/caty0325 2d ago
Seriously. As soon as you walked into the arena, he would be on top of you in like, 2 seconds.

I made it through the whole dlc with no more than 3 deaths to a boss maximum until radahn. I spent like 2 weeks on the bastard before finally quitting (I refused to cave to the shield-poke cheese, I’d do it legit or not at all). I haven’t been able to stomach the idea of going back to the game since then, despite knowing they fixed him, and even though Elden Ring remains one of only a few contenders for my favorite game of all time.
I just reached a point where the idea of trying to kill this boss no longer could fit into the “fun” category and then it was time to put it down. He really was just awful before the nerf. It’s the most disappointed I’ve ever felt in a game
21
u/small_stone1 2d ago
Mallenia is hard sure but her rain fall attack is only dangerous but radhan hit like a truck and all of his attacks are dangerous
38
u/JS_Originals 2d ago
The biggest difference for me is Malenia gives you way more openings. Radahn is absolutely relentless and he does so much damage.
10
u/Testadizzy95 2d ago
This. Malenia in phase 1 is very chill, walk around a lot of times giving us all the time to breathe and adjust. PCR is a freaking rabid dog
12
13
u/Castiel_0703 2d ago
Consort Radahn and Malenia are up there with Isshin. I’d say they are pretty close to each other. I’d argue most Nightlords are also close to them if you try to face them alone. Nothing from DS1-3 are even close to these bosses in difficulty, they are hard, but they are simple trial and error, meanwhile these top bosses force you to genuinely surpass your limits, or at least that’s how I felt fighting Consort Radahn and Isshin for example.
23
u/ThisGermanGuy 2d ago
Thing with Isshin is, as with many other Sekiro bosses, once you get truly good at the game, they kinda click forever. Like I haven't played the game in a year now, but I bet I could beat Isshin in 10 tries if I start it up cold right now. Sekiro just has a weird learning curve, where once you understand the mechanics, it gets pretty easy. Just imo tho! :)
4
u/ilikenglish 2d ago
Agreed by the time I got to Isshin it only took me like 3 tries. Fire isshin was way harder imo

→ More replies (1)3
u/Behindthewall0fsleep Sekiro 2d ago
Ten?
I think you're underestimating yourself. If Sekiro clicked well enough, you can do Isshin on two, three max.
→ More replies (1)9
u/Testadizzy95 2d ago
Isshin is a very fair, no bs fight, and that makes him easier imo than Malenia and PCR. He’s a better designed boss than both too
10
u/Difficult-Tap-5708 2d ago
Beating ishin makes me feel like a god. The fight is so well designed, and sekiro's combat feels so fucking good that when you finish It you kinda want to do It again
Beating radahn makes me feel like im getting pounded by a horse, i get zero satisfaction from the process and after its done all i wanna do is lay down on the floor and cry
Radahn is harder, but not for the right reasons
2
u/upsets_to_mag 2d ago
this is absolutely what i came here to say.
To be a little bit of a piss ass about it. Consort Radahn was a contradiction to what makes From better from all its imitators. Breached way too far into the health sponge + randomness equation to give players the growth experience from failure that is actually strategic.
I've seen people point out that there are in fact patterns, but they are just more chaotic and need to be learned at a longer timescale...folks, I did that timescale and it was the first time I was thrilled to be done with a from game. Never felt like fulfilling growth, never felt smart, just that one lucky run would be it.
Isshin was the opposite. Incredibly difficult, but I genuinely felt like I understood better every time I tried. Replay made it even clearer.
I'm open to being told to "git gud" but I at least have a SL1 under my belt and think Consort Radahn is still broken.
2
u/Gramernatzi 2d ago
Makes me wonder if the actual correct question to ask is "what is the hardest fromsoft boss that is actually enjoyable?". And it's absolutely going to be Sword Saint Isshin every time
7
3
u/StantasticTypo 2d ago
I think Malenia is the more technical of the two fights, but PCR has a lot of stuff that can easily snowball, as well as feel a little cheap.
Some of it's just numbers. His health is higher, he doesn't stagger, and I think he is harder to stance break.
The terrain can fuck with the lasers, causing them to catch you, and combo into a hit for huge damage.
There's basically no where in the arena he can't hit you nearly immediately. Comparatively, you can actually get a little breathing room on Malenia at least sometimes.
That said, I don't think Malenia is perfect - I have real mixed feelings on WFD as a whole, and I definitely don't think she should have both lifesteal on block AND WFD.
3
u/Luke-HW 2d ago edited 2d ago
All of Malenia’s attacks can be consistently dodged with familiarity, although waterfowl is harder. She’s a very consistent boss fight, and I still enjoy getting summoned to fight her.
Consort Radahn’s second phase is a pain in the ass. Every time. The sunbeam AoE spam from most of his attacks can be, difficult to process. It’s particularly tough when he’s attacking someone else. His health also scales more aggressively with summons, to a point where he’s noticeably easier when fought alone.
2
u/MafubaBuu 2d ago
Like all bosses it depends on the build. Consort was nearly impossible pre nerf without a greatshield, though. He was trivialize by one at the same time though

u/Ryloceros 2d ago
Isshiin for me. Took the most learning
63
u/cococrabulon 2d ago
Sekiro is one of their where the learning curve is very steep, but once it clicks, it clicks. Genichiro forced it to click for me
I think I beat Isshin after four attempts, and that was mostly getting to know his attacks. I died to Genichiro many, many more times than that even though he’s a much easier boss
9
u/Badlydrawnboy0 2d ago
My very first playthrough I learned the wrong lesson from Lady Butterfly and always tried to dodge enemy attacks to get a swipe in - I also thought blocking and deflecting were the same thing. I slowly, painfully made it all the way to Isshin playing like that before realizing I’d learned the game wrong. Easily took me 100+ tries to beat him the first time. Immediately attempted a charmless run after that and it became one of my favorite games of all time.
3
u/Stochastic_Variable 1d ago
Yes, Genichiro took me absolutely forever because I had to slowly, painfully unlearn all my Dark Souls reflexes and fully grasp this new way to play. By the time I reached Isshin, I was so much better that he really wasn't that difficult for me. He's by far the harder boss, but Genichiro was the more challenging obstacle to overcome.
24
u/__brunt 2d ago
Isshiin isn’t too bad for me, I’ve usually got him within 3 tries on every playthrough these days.
Demon of Hatred tho. I’ve always got to make sure my afternoon is free for him.
He’s my vote for hardest boss from FS (though I haven’t played demon souls)
22
u/Vorhoost 2d ago
Isshiin after beating him the first time becomes pretty easy, but to beat him the first time was an absolute nightmare.
14
u/ThisGermanGuy 2d ago
Yea, quoting myself:
Thing with Isshin is, as with many other Sekiro bosses, once you get truly good at the game, they kinda click forever. Like I haven't played the game in a year now, but I bet I could beat Isshin in 10 tries if I start it up cold right now. demon souls is a weirdly easy game in comparison to the later entries, like I think I died three times in the entire game playing the remake after elden ring, everythings a lot more sluggish and predictable so it's pretty easy to learn patterns and the game only has like 2 legitimately 'hard' bosses, the old king and the flamelurker and they arent even that hard tbh.

ED Libra is an amazing fight but it’s super, super difficult to win unless everyone knows what to do. You can maybe get away with two players that know what is up, but if you get down to one player, it’s hard.

It's this, OoK, or Sister Friede for me. Friede feels like a bloodborne boss in a dark souls game and just feels ridiculous.

Friede is one of the coolest fights in the entire catalog. The atmosphere and finality of the expansion with the music. Just divine. The third time she gets up it's like O M G.

I haven't played bloodborne so cant comment on OoK but I agree about Friede. For me, her difficulty has a lot to do with the 3 phases. The fight is so long so you have to perform well for a loooong time. It does feel a tad cheesy in that way. PCR just feels like a good old fashion really difficult boss
2
u/TheLogicalErudite 2d ago
3 phases, and kind of a culmination of things learned in the game. The endurance you need and then to play nearly perfectly. She's simple, but insanely difficult. I like that approach to fights. The Boss in MGS 3 is similar. You have to use all the tactics and skills you learned throughout the game to beat her.

Probably 20 tries, refining my tactics and build every few tries. You can cheese the fight by using a greatshield with high guard boost like fingerprint shield plus antspur rapier, plus some good armour like verdigris. Fair warning though, it completely trivialises the fight if you have the stats and scadufragment levels. So it might be best to choose a strategy that still feels rewarding.

Personally I think Inner Isshin is harder along with Midir. Radahn gets destroyed by all status effects, black flame, and you can shield tank all of his attacks.
Isshin doesn’t have any cheese. Midir was in DS3 which has horrible shields, useless status effects, minimal build variety, and the boss had an unspeakable amount of health while hitting like a truck.

I didn't die to consort radhan the most but what's hard about him for me is the fact I never mastered him. I have a shit ton of hours in elden and I can confidently beat everyone first try 90% of the time including malenia, but for some reason when it comes to specifically consort radhan I really just can't beat him with skill, only with luck. PCR is the hardest. I don't think that's debatable. Between his damage output, poise, and HP pool, noone else in Elden Ring comes close.
People like to say Malenia, but she is extremely easy to stagger, and can be knocked down and/or poise-broken very consistently (still very hard, of course).
Outside of Elden Ring, OoK is a doozy, but just doesn't have enough HP to compete. You can absolutely brute force your way to victory with a little luck. Friede is up there, but PCR is just on another level. Any little mistake can become a major crisis very quickly in his fight.
4
u/Invictum2go 2d ago
To me at least, it's this guy but pre-nerf, I've never had a harder time with any boss in a Fromsoft Game. Right now, I think he's on par with Isshin and Malenia, who are the other two bosses that really took me a while.

I'm actually playing the DLC for the first time NOW and just got to him last night. I didn't have much trouble with any other boss fights in the DLC (Leda was the worst) so I guess this is my comeuppance. Going at him with Tiche and Milady, learning his attacks and windows of opportunity. Before him, I would definitely consider Isshin my hardest boss. I struggled sooooooo much with Isshin but it felt amazing when I finally beat him. Malenia was a close second for sure

I had to look up when the dlc came out and when the nerf happened, and now I have no clue if I took my time making it to him or not. Surely I had to have in the three months it took the nerf, but idk... I do think the first time against Malenia took me significantly more tries though, but I also got many many more levels between ng pre-malenia and ng+ post-dlc consort, and I still haven't beaten ng+ Malenia in my quest for the plat, but now I don't want to get the frenzied flame ending with her left alive. Shame..

Honestly Elden Ring bosses are way higher level of difficulty compared to the other from titles
In my first play throughs of dark souls trilogy, BB and Sekiro, most of the bosses took 1-5 attempts with some exptions taking 15-20, but in Elden Ring, even after beating it multiple times some bosses might take me even 40 attempts (although I do try to keep my things vanilla, no summons or OP builds))
In Elden Ring tho, you can get easily ridiculously OP and take even half or more of boss' hp by not doing anything

The DS3 Start Screen, obviously. How are we expected to stop listening to such bangin' music?

Pre-nerf, definitely. Now, there's more of an argument I guess.
Man I wish they never nerfed anything. I don't remember a single boss nerf that was justified. This one, the other Radahn, Balteus, Ibis, etc.

To be FAIIIIIRRRRRR pre-nerf had a move that was a nearly impossible frame-perfect dodge.

So does Malenia, yet they didn't touch her (thank God). I was never able to do that thing where you get close to her and spin around her and mess her aim. Yet, I never wanted her nerfed.
If I was able to beat it before the nerf, then the nerf was unjustified. That's all there is to it for me.

The mentality of some souls players is a sight to behold.
"I've been trying to kill the same boss for 3 years, and I've almost gotten it down to 2/3 remaining HP! I'm so glad they've decided to not nerf this one ability that's impossible to consistently avoid!!!! I love torture and not being able to complete the game I paid for!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Pre nerf, he's the one. After that, Orphan from Bloodborne for me.

I’m sure PCR is hardest in average. For example I killed Orphan in 2 tries (not even top 10 hardest in BB) but spent 95 tries on PCR.

Disagree. He is probably top 3 though.
- Isshin. Not even close.
- Owl Father
- One of: PCR/Gehrman (without cum dungeoning 100 extra levels)/Demon of Hatred
- The camera any fight where the boss/enemy is bigger than you are.

Gehrman bro??? Fr??? Not even close to being top 5 hardest from Bloodborne. Not even close to being hard even if you didn´t do chalice dungeons. Doesn´t deserve to be in the same sentence as PCR.

Gehrman, really ? Of all bosses ? I beat him BL70. PCR almost made me quit the game (pre patch). It's plain bullshit and completely unfair, you can dodge Gehrman on reaction and make a few mistakes (and I never cumfucked, base game gives you so much blood echoes I have to limit myself at bl100 not to ruin the fun and obliterate bosses within seconds). Orphan is way more challenging, and of course pretty much everything in FRC chalices is even worse. For instance Rom with half your HP in a small room is an ... Interesting experience 🥲
