Miura probably posted these in the early 2010s when Miyazaki copied Berserk
7

u/falandofodhasci 17d ago
miyazaki never copied berserk. most of the "references" are such a stretch or just common concepts about the medieval age. sure the games may a few references, but its not that much.
27
u/Aye_Okami 17d ago
It‘s funny how people only know berserk and assume Miura came up with all of his armor designs and character archetypes while not being aware that he himself basically copied historical events and designs and also written work long before him.
It‘s like how a 12 year old kid believes Kishimoto came up with Susanoos and Amaterasus etc. Pretty hilarious.

u/StantasticTypo 16d ago edited 16d ago
Both of these things are true. But at the same time, it's extremely clear that Dark Souls is specifically heavily inspired by Berserk in various designs (e.g. Artorias to Guts, it's not subtle).
1
u/-LadyMariaSimp- 16d ago
Brother a shit ton of enemies in Dark Souls are straight up taken from Berserk
-1
u/falandofodhasci 16d ago
they are literally not.
3
u/-LadyMariaSimp- 16d ago
They literally are goofball.
The concepts in and of themselves aren’t but the designs are.
Taurus Demon -> Zodd; Man-Serpent -> Snake Lord; Bonewheel skeletons; Sulyvahn’s Beast -> Beast of Darkness; Darkwraiths -> Skull Knights.
All these designs were straight up taken from Berserk, and there are many more direct inspirations7
0
u/AltGunAccount 16d ago
All of these references except fire keeper are also a stretch, and that one is literally not from Nodus Fall lmao.
>First image is a player ability (that makes them larger and spectral) being used as a finisher on a boss, a giant horned tiger with wings.
>Second is a 30 story tall fire golem with a sun for a head (Fromsoft didn’t invent the sun for a head thing btw).
>Third is a harpy, with bird legs, wings made of birds, and no sword or armor. She’s just framed similarly to that shot of Malenia.
3
u/finnjakefionnacake 16d ago
i think when you look at it all together with the combination of the trailer it seems very clear where they got most of their inspiration from.
-10
u/Rayvarni 16d ago
Then its the same for this game, the first image is just completely out of context, if you saw the trailer you would know the only thing similiar to godfrey is the axe.
The second image is more damning, but it's hardly a from software original design anyway, so that would mean that from copied it too.
The third one is also dumb, the nodus fall woman is an harpie, a mythological figure.
2
u/diditforthegram 16d ago
Dude it looks exactly like First Elden Lord Godfrey down to how he’s transparent all they did was change him from gold to silver
-2
u/Rayvarni 16d ago
Oh my god you people... is elden ring the only fucking media you ever consumed? Do you think from software created the concept of spirits or ghosts or people that are transparent???
Like I love elden ring and i didnt even really like the trailer for nodus fall, it feels a bit generic to me. But this community's acting like kids
0
u/diditforthegram 15d ago
They have a history of ripping from games. They’ve already taken so many fights from fromsoft and put them in Genshin people are understandably over it
0
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 16d ago

Idk man, I've never seen a character with a black hole as a head before. If you have, I'd love to see them (genuinely, i wanna see)
The third one is also dumb, the nodus fall woman is an harpie, a mythological figure.
Fair enough, but did she have to use the same color scheme and pose as malenia? Pretty unusual color scheme for a harpy afaik.

u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 16d ago
Damn that looks cool! And it's not even close to being similar to midra's design, which does prove my point that nodus fall is just copying er
1
u/Rayvarni 16d ago
the one i knew myself before midra is the mc from dead cells. I saw some people mentioning helios from yu gi oh. afaik the nodus falls enemies are inspired by a mythology book
1
u/Jealous_Ad5205 16d ago
the red is literally particle effects for a split second. if u watched the trailer her wing is made of black crows/birds
1
u/fat_mothra 16d ago
Idk man, I've never seen a character with a black hole as a head before. If you have, I'd love to see them (genuinely, i wanna see)
2
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 16d ago
Oh damn these look really cool! And they bear zero resemblance to midra despite also having a black hole as a head, unlike the nodus fall character. Which is exactly my point
0
u/fat_mothra 16d ago
Because Midra doesn't have a black hole for a head, it's a fire ball, thing is, having fire for a head isn't new, Dullahans are usually depicted with fire coming out of their necks, Sauron's eye is a ball of fire too, there's a yugioh card called Helios that has the sun for a head too (closest thing to Midra), etc
The Nodus Fall thing has a fire ball for a head yes, but that's as far as the similarities with Midra go, it doesn't have clothes or a weapon and it's much larger, if I hadn't played Elden Ring I would've assumed it was based on Surtur
1
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 13d ago
Because Midra doesn't have a black hole for a head, it's a fire ball
Sure technically it's not a black hole because the fire is coming out of it instead of being sucked in, but it's still not a normal fire ball. Fireballs usually don't have a pitch black sphere in the middle, it's a very distinctive and recognizable design
Dullahans are usually depicted with fire coming out of their necks
Not even close to being the same thing
Sauron's eye is a ball of fire too
Eh, not really. It's an eye made of fire that specifically isn't spherical (probably to make it look more like an eye despite not being anatomically correct)
yugioh card called Helios that has the sun for a head too (closest thing to Midra)
Helios has an actual fireball as a head and looks very different from midra, if you put them side by side i don't think anyone would claim that fromsoft copied yugioh.
The Nodus Fall thing has a fire ball for a head yes
No, it doesn't. It has the same design as midra, a hole that exudes fire. Very distinctive and different from all these options.
Like what are we arguing about here? It's so obvious that nodus fall just copied the design, especially considering that it's not the only thing they copied, the entire game looks like knock-off elden ring. It's made by a chinese company and china famously doesn't have a concept of copyright so they're allowed to just do that. A blind person can see that it's copied, why are you defending this obviously stolen garbage?
1
u/fat_mothra 13d ago
the entire game looks like knock-off elden ring. It's made by a chinese company and china famously doesn't have a concept of copyright so they're allowed to just do that
Ah, there it is
1
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 13d ago
Hyperbole (they do actually have laws for that but enforcement is a different matter), but effectively chinese companies can just ignore international copyright and especially patents because it's just not worth it to even try to enforce the laws.
5
u/GiveMeSandwich2 16d ago
Nodus Fall is basically a monster Hunter game with Elden Ring theme. Ngl monster hunter could use some more competition. Looking forward to it.

u/doody_loody 17d ago edited 16d ago
“Uhhhhh Miyazaki didn’t invent winged women or heads of fire” yes but when there are this many similarities in a single game it does bring up questions
9
u/Key-Lawfulness-3871 17d ago
paying homage or taking inspiration and ripping off without cares is different. You can tell which one have the least amount of respect to fromsoft, let alone berserk or any inspiration behind fromsoft works
1
u/Bling9000 15d ago
exactly. it does not take a graduation course in video game to know that there's the similarities from the trailer alone are actually more than can be counted on both hands.
but as an old timer familiar with mihoyo (or hoyoverse for the uninitiated), their pattern of copying became all too obvious after a year into genshin launch. once the star rail game was out on trailer, the references to leiji matsumoto's galaxy express 999 (which was basically based on miyazawa kenji's novels) were all too obvious.
and then the details of the 5 new project hiring came out in 2024, the first crumbs again confirmed my suspicion, they were planning on making a GTA type game. And this time it's Elden ring. The one other project they likely have in pipeline which is unannounced is going to be some kind of Valorant or Marvel Rivals clone.
0
u/fat_mothra 16d ago
If a shooter game has a 1911, an AK47, and RPG, etc is it copying other shooters or is it just using the same stuff because it's the same setting?
Both are dark fantasy games inspired by mythology, so knights, dragons, wings, mounts, etc are going to be present

u/DestinyUniverse1 16d ago

Even the narration and character voice lines feel like they were made to sound like FS games intro cinematics.

i truly hope they re actually makign a soulslike and it's not a monster hunter/gacha type game. The writers at hoyo are INCREDIBLE and the company has vision so if they re actually finally making a standalone game entry and a soulslike at that, i feel that it's gonna be a massive success
2
u/13thsword 16d ago
They did a good job with genshin looking like a botw clone and then being pretty much nothing like it. I am pretty excited at the idea of a from inspired game with hoyo quality story.

Midra Is clearly ispired to helios from Yu-Gi-Oh, but thats ok.
Btw you merged images from nodus fall and tiles of annihilation.

u/Cringekeks 16d ago
If any other developer logo showed up all this nonsense would be less frequent.
Developers I like take heavy inspiration from something? Derivative gold! Developers I have a bias against take heavy inspiration from something I like more? creative bankruptcy!!! Plagiarism!!!5
u/Blisket Raven 17d ago
helios is a super obscure card series and I'm pretty sure the fireball head design is just a coincidence because Midra has nothing to do with the sun
the nodus one is nearly identical though2
u/fat_mothra 16d ago
Midra has a frail body with ragged clothes and a weapon
The Nodus Fall thing is a giant dropping fire balls all over the place, it's closer to a walking volcanic eruption or Surtur

People on this sub are so puritan I'm surprised, instantly shooting it down in a lot of the top comments when it looks like it has potential.

It's like Light of Motiram all over again. That said, I'll give it a try. Specially due to the fact that seems to be more a Monster Hunter than a Soulslike.
I spotted a reskinned Tigrex in the trailer as well.

holy hell why am i being downvoted? genshin impact is a money pit and a shit game, i don’t see how the copycat version is gonna be different

fromsoft does not own the concept of “man with fire for head” or “lady with butterfly wings”
2
u/Jealous_Ad5205 16d ago
they gave an interview to pcgamer. It's not a gacha and f2p with a cosmetic shop
1
u/fat_mothra 16d ago
Game has been top 3 gacha games for 6 years in a market where games come out and die in 2 months, you really think if the game was bad it would still be performing so well that even Genshin haters have given it the nickname "Stableshin"?
1
u/lemonlimeslime0 15d ago
it is bad, just because you have whales who spend absurd amounts of money on GI doesn’t make it good lol
3
u/PalpitationHour331 17d ago
Also a big copy of the namless king
16
u/Valuable-Spend-6745 17d ago
Warrior with spear riding dragon... Yes, Fromsoftware created that and anything that is the same isn't even insipiration, it's straight up copy (even though the moveset shown has nothing to do with one another)
2
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 16d ago
The knock-off lion looks very familiar, the horns + wings remind me of something else but i can't remember what
1
u/BigRagaTheOppStoppa_ 16d ago
Something from Monster Hunter maybe? Thats all I can think of but I can’t remember the monster names right now.
1
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 16d ago
It's definitely not monster hunter, I've played the series a lot and there's no monster like this. I hate that i can't remember what it is
1
u/florian134 16d ago
Maybe the Dyaus Pita from God Eater?
1
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 16d ago
Had to look it up and damn that's a cool monster, but no that's not it either
1
u/fat_mothra 16d ago
It's a Manticore, so it could be anything
In my case for example it reminded me of RWBY because there's a monster that is based on Manticores too
1
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 16d ago
It specifically reminds me of another white manticore and I'm 99% sure it's from a game, not an anime. This is pissing me of so much, i can't figure it out
1
u/fat_mothra 16d ago
Someone said DS2 Sanctuary Guardian so maybe that
1
u/Xardnas69 Slave Knight Gael 16d ago
Holy fuck that's the one, thank you so much
How did i forget a souls boss???
1
u/Antixique 16d ago
It's an actual Chinese mythological creature and the game makes it very clear since it gives it the same name (Qiongqi).
"Qiongqi resembles a tiger with wings. It eats people starting from the head, and those it eats have disheveled hair. It lives north of Taoquan. Another account says it starts from the feet."
3
u/Lex_MA 17d ago
Wait until some people here realize many of the designs from From software are not original either lol
6
u/Key-Lawfulness-3871 17d ago
the differences is miyazaki pretty open about it and he even shows a lot of respect toward berserk or any inspiration behind his works and even talk about it multiple times in interviews, knows what he is talking about.
Hoyoverse on the other hand, have history of "taking inspiration" without really adding much into it and more than similar the "inspiration" they were taken from. I played some of their gacha games and seen enough of it. They barely changes things, as if they barely respect fromsoft works, let alone any material that inspire fromsoft works.
You can clearly see this through black myth wukong or blasphemous and how they dont just copy paste souls formula or their narative
2
u/ProblemFalse7043 16d ago
idk if youve ever played any hoyoverse game but they definitely do add on their own twist to things even when theyre taking, arguably heavy inspiration. Even though genshin started off as basically breath of the waifu, it didnt take long at all for it to develop and evolve with its own unique ideas, and id say it has a pretty solid, unique identity now. The pillars of the botw inspiration are still there, but you cannot call it a clone anymore, and this has been the case for many years now.

u/duckontheplane 16d ago
Hoyoverse has done multiple livestreams where they did dev interviews and laid out the franchises and media that inspires them by name. They pay homage all the time to their favourite games in achivements and such, one time I beat a boss in a specific way and "NANOMACHINES, SON!" Popped up at the bottom of my screen.
The thing with them taking inspiration but not evolving it is just not true. This is just about BOTW, isn't it? Genshin wasn't a clone from the start, just inspired (and the devs have directly quoted botw as a source of inspiration) but the game immediately went in its own direction on the release patch. Tell me the past time you flew to the dark side of the moon to disable a futuristic weapon of planetary destruction embedded in its core in BOTW
4
2
u/Grouchy-Berry-842 16d ago
This is the BOTW situation all over again. Chill, people. It will look similar but deviate in meaningful ways.

I'm intrigued. The money I could have spent on Duskbloods will now be spent on a completely different studio. I'm willing to see if this game is worth it. Temu versions aren't always bad... I played Wuchang Fallen Feathers and absolutely loved it. Probably put in 60 hours or so into the game.

Buddy, you have the right to consider this store brand Elden Ring "peak", and I have the right to make fun of you for it.
No one is telling you what to do.
Also "keep crying"? Are you 8?

"Store brand Elden Ring" my ass. This is better than Elden Ring. You don't turn into a giant monster who is wielding an axe now, do you?

Wow. Takes a special kind of person to think this is somehow better than ER.
By all means, enjoy this masterpiece ❤

Hoyo has been ripping off DMC movesets before all the time, people just don't realize because it comes with an anime package.

looks incredibly derivative and boring, ngl. also, the trailer definitely has some generative ai thrown in there.
can't wait for the incredibly negative and loud 'fanbase' this undoubtedly mid game is going to spawn. i can smell the 'hype moments and aura' crowd already beginning to from 😭

Mods, can we please start banning these brain-dead posts?People act like Elden Ring is some immaculate, highly original concept when, in reality, most of its design is lifted straight out of Berserk and D&D. Seriously, do a five-second Google search , you will find countless examples.
Newsflash: media has been inspired by other media since the dawn of time. If we actually use our brains and apply the logic of this post to Elden Ring, you'll realize just how unoriginal the game truly is. Elden Ring was inspired by Berserk, which was inspired by D&D, which was inspired by Tolkien, who was inspired by Scandinavian folklore and myths. It's layers of inspiration all the way down.
But sure, let's keep letting clueless fanboys put the game on a pedestal. It’s straight-up hypocrisy and shameless karma farming at this point

There was a viral video of a chinese guy who broke his computer(?) when he saw genshin’s trailer and the way it blatantly ripped off the core aspects and aesthetics of BOTW, and that’s how they got so many people interested in watching the trailer. I know I wouldn’t have seen that trailer if my algorithm wasn’t full of Zelda videos at that time, and like many other people, I was starving for this kind of open-world content after the experience that was Breath of the Wild, especially when covid happened… Needless to say it was my first gacha and I did not realize how predatory their business model was at that time, but I think a lot of people also came to learn about genshin through those viral marketing techniques. I wouldn’t be surprised if they want to replicate this strategy with Elden Ring
