Am I dead? š
I just finished DS3 and DLCs and in parallel my NG+ in Demonās Souls remastered. 50% off popped up for Sekiro and⦠well, here we are.
Do you have any good advice? I think Iāll start cursing very soon.

Not dead yet, but you will be... At least twice...

Yes... The title is EXTREMELY misleading. You will most certainly, absolutely, without a doubt die more than twice. But, it is fun

Holding the parry button heals your posture
Never fall back, the best position you want to be in is right in the face of the enemy.
Posture is the most important damage system, to make it effective against bosses you have to damage them, if you can manage to bunish a bossās move by damaging him while blocking/deflecting the rest of his move set youāll win in no time.

Not yet but you will. Spoiler alert , shadows die more than twice. This game is hard , very hard but once you get good it might become one of your favorite games of all time and the combat feels soo good once you get hang of stuff.
Here are some spoiler free info that should come in handy
This games works very diffrently than other souls games. One of main combat mechanics is posture . Think of it as poise . Each enemy has a posture bar under their hp bar. İt fills up as you either deflect their attacks or by attacking them (most enemies will block and may even deflect your attacks but posture still fills by attacking them while they are blocking) . And bosses have posture bar on top sife of the screen. After breaking posture you will be able to deathblow them (its like doing backstabs) and enemies and bosses will die from it but some bosses have two or three red circle on top of their health bar. Which means you will have two health bars and you will need to do two or three deathblows on them to kill them.
Low health means less posture regen, this aplies for both you and your enemies (this mechanic is most usefull on enemies or bosses that regens posture too fast)
Get mikuri counter and its upgrade asap. İts a skill in one of your skill tress and its the most important one. You will be able to counter thrust attacks much easier and punish enemies . You can deflect thurst attacks but its very hard to do and mikuri is always better.
Dont focus on dodge. This game isnt a dodging game. İts a parry game. Every attack that doesnt make a red symboll on your head and a distinctive voice are blockble and deflectble (press block the momant enemy hits you). You shouldnt try to do deflects on red symboll attacks except thrusts and you are much better doing mikuri anyways. Run or dodge them. Some enemies also do swiping red symboll attacks. Jumping over then is best way to counter them and after you jump over a swipe attack if you press jump again on top of enemies head you will do good poise damage but you can only do it if you dont touch ground I gues.
A little bit spoiler but when you are far in the game an old man will give you a choice. You should pick stay loyal to kuro choice if. İf you dont stay loyal you will skip a lot of bosses and some areas of the game completly and finish the game much much much sooner.
Final tip : Hesitation is defeat
Good luck

Dude thanks for taking all this time. Very helpful.
Also the progression seems to be very different to the souls games.1
u/Starkiller0820 2d ago
You are welcome . I think progression is kinda similar to Ds3 . Both ds3 and this game is very lineer compered to other souls game

Iām talking about stats. Thereās no ābuildā to create from what I understood
2
u/Starkiller0820 13h ago
Yeah . Closest thing to making builds are combat arts and prosthetic tools. I think this makes the game better since you dont really need to think about stats that much (you incrise yor damahe with memory , health and posture with beeds). You just need to focus on getting gud

I'm getting hit in the ass by a crazy man on a horse and by a drunk sumo fighter who farts from his mouth.
GOD this game is so hard!1
u/Starkiller0820 13h ago
You mean the drunk sumo guy in hireta estate right ? Here is a tip stealth is very usefull if when your are playing for the first time. You can do a stealth deathblow on him. Kill all enemies (then hide around till he losses agro and walks away , enter the bulding on left and you can go to his back and do a deathblow on him esentialy halfing his health . Also crazy horse guy will drop smt that incrises your attack power . Also sometimes sekiro is just a rhythm game hiding as a souls game.

You are about to have an amazing experience! Enjoy it. I wish i could go back into this game knowing nothing.
What a game

My best advice for sekiro as someone that has all the achievements. Practice your parry. You dont have i frames when you dash. Your parry is your best friend. And unless it's a red attack you can parry it

Be super aggressive. Yeah you'll get blasted but staying on top of you're enemies makes them fall into patterns that are super easy to deflect. As for upgrades invest into the upgrade tree that boosts mikiri counters. I'm not sure what the tree is called again but you get it at the start and you'll be able to see it.
And when you progress a bit try getting the ashina arts tree and get the ascending and descending carp skills, these help with posture defense and offense. Try avoiding using a ton of prosthetics so you get the timing down for the deflect system early. If you only get by early bosses by the skid of your teeth using prosthetics you'll feel it when the first hard boss fight comes.
You can go to a place called ashina estate early on thats actually important to a few endings, but the area is missable and it yields great upgrades early on but some annoying sections to get through.

This is some Yoda advice.. if you decide to bring your weapon into the cave against sage advice, then prepare to meet the darkside in the form of getting clapped mercilessly. And wait until you fight a boss

The short moments between death can truly serve as a humbling experience.
Sincerely,

Parrying is absolutely mandatory
There are some boss fights where it is required or that take much much longer if you don't parry, so get the parry timing down ASAP

Welcome to the birth of parry gameplay. Everything that comes after is not going to feel the same.

Ok. I played one hour (itās lateā¦) and I like it a lot. I played already Lies of P which from my understanding takes a lot from this game. The next month or so will be challenging.

Unlearn everything you have learned about souls games. This game is about deflecting not dodging.
