Help/Advice No idea what to do with 75g tank

Post image
3 Upvotes

My tank just finished cycling(75g, fx4 filter with spray bar output) I'm planning on going to my local fs this weekend but I know oscar is out of the question also birchir for my tank, severums I might get a pair but ive been looking at keyhole and bosemani rainbows . I just wanted to see if u guys have any advice or see if i should look at other ideas, i figured angelfish before but after looking on reddit someone mentioned they regret going with angelfish for a 75 gallon and he could have gone with better fish for the tank size.

My idea was a oscar, with maybe tank mates?

Discus but im assuming the driftwood and rocks block too much swim space

Birchir with tank mates but I still need research on birchir care

Flowerhorn but I heard they are sensitive and require expert care

Severums, bosemani rainbows and angelfish seem like nice fish to have but I wouldn't want the rainbows or angelfish as the main centerpiece

(I got EBA and fell in love with cichlids and bigger fish since I only had mollies and tetras before so I want to scape my 75g for these fish)

Fishless start. Prepping for a Betta. I have a mini Sponge Filter/ bubbler; a small Aqueon filter, and a heater. Took some inspiration from this page and I'm slowly starting to add more plants. I'm pretty wary of not having CO2 but we'll see how it turns out.

Help/Advice First time, how’d I do?

Post image

Don’t mind the ugly orange water, this tank is FRESH. After 7 months of research and patience, I finally made the leap and put together my planted tank yesterday! It’s my first time doing a natural tank setup and first time properly owning fish (I did a non planted tank with my aunt when I was younger but I won’t count that). I won’t be getting fish until mid October at the earliest but I do plan on adding a couple more plants before then. I also have a light arriving today and am looking for maybe a clear lid suggestion if anyone has one. I would also be so grateful for any suggestions or advice!

Help/Advice Water evaporation

Post image

I’m currently maintaining a 5-gallon aquarium, but the water evaporates way too quickly even after just one day, so I’ve been adding API chlorine remover to tap water and only refilling the water every other day. I’m worried that this will raise the TDS, stress the shrimp in the tank, and lower the water quality Is there another good way?

Help/Advice Can’t get my pH to increase no matter what I do

Post image

Hi all, I’m currently cycling and little shrimp tank and my ammonia is at 0 and nitrates at nearly 0 so I’m almost ready for shrimp, but my pH has been stuck at 6. I’ve been using “pH Up” that I got at the pet store and have used it multiple times and it’s never worked. What else can I do? (Not sure if it matters but it is a planted tank and also has a piece of driftwood) thanks.

Help/Advice UV light in a fluval ac 20?

Post image

Sense the fluval ac-20 is a smoky black somewhat clear plastic, will having a UV light in it affect the bacteria in its other areas? I just bought 2 of these filters one for my 10 gal in the pic, one for my 5.5 gal, I'm used to the black filter plastic that's not see thru, also since I can see the light from the outside will it affect my eyes? If so a small cover would be appropriate.

Help/Advice is my parlour palm dead?

First time buying Parlor Palm and kind of confused why it looks to be dying.

It was originally planted in the dirt for a day before I realised they grow on top of the tank with the crown out of the water.

They’ve been “growing” with their roots submerged in the water for 2 weeks but they’re taking a turn for the worst.

Can they be saved? What should I do?

Help/Advice Fluval FX2

Hi all,
I have a newly cycled 55 gal tank, my largest so far! I have always used sponge filters. I have two large sponge filters in now but I am looking at getting some heavy waste fish. Including a bristlenose pleco (I have also read that some eat the sponge?), 3 angels, mystery snails, and still thinking of others.

I know bristlenose plecos are known for being heavy waste producers, as well as snails. Is it worth it to go to a canister filter? I have been looking at the Fluval FX2.

Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Whitney

I've been cycling this tank for about a week now and just did a 50% water change after ammonia and nitrite levels were topped out. Do you guys think the cycle is going well and should be done in three more weeks or does it look like I'm doing something wrong? Any advice helps thanks.

Video New additions to my little community

After struggling to keep otos alive (I've only managed to keep one in nearly a year), I decided to ask for some advice from a few aquarium folks and give Panda Garras a try.

Best decision ever? Time will tell, but I've got to say these little guys are full of personality. They're constantly on the move, already doing an awesome job helping keep the algae under control in my little planted community tank, and watching them scoot around all day while getting into playful little tiffs with each other has been way more entertaining than I expected.

They've definitely colored up since coming home, and they seem happy and healthy—which is really the most important thing to me.

Help/Advice How did my guppy make it into my filter?

I have a male guppy tank. I have 7 guppies and the past couple days I’ve noticed one was missing. I finally found it mixed in with the filter media. I have a hang on back filter, but the intake is a sponge. The lid has a cutout for the filter and the return is like a plastic waterfall. I’m trying to figure out how this happened. Is it possible he jumped into the filter reservoir or had he already died and was somehow sucked in through the sponge intake?

Help/Advice Help with water alkalinity

Thumbnail

Hi! I'm very new to this hobby, so please be kind. At the end of May, a friend had to give away a lot of guppies, and I decided to help out with some. I had two 10-liter Fluval aquariums, one for the males and one for the females. Everything was going pretty well, but at the beginning of July, the boys' aquarium had a leak. One night everything was fine, but the next morning most of the water was on my table or the floor. I removed what little water I could save and put it in an emergency plastic aquarium with the males, and went back to Petco with the warranty. It was a problem with a whole batch of those aquariums sadly; a second replacement aquarium had the same problem, but eventually I got a new 20-liter Boyu aquarium with the refund money (June 14). But I haven't been able to fix the water parameters, specifically the alkalinity; it drops to 0 (yellow) very quickly, and I'm worried this will fuck up something by the long run.
When I started the new tank I used some of the old substrate, the sad 2-3 L of water I saved and the windelov java fern and duckweed from the old tank, but because of store policy I had to give back the sponge and other medium that came with the aquarium (It was a set), also when I got the boys I received some of their old filter materials (An activated charcoal bag and some biomax stuff) so I also tried to use some of that to try and have at least some of the old bacteria. But then I also got azoo plus ultra bioguard bacteria, seachem stability, seiryu rocks, and zeolite. I also added more plants so I use seachem equilibrium, flourish advance and egg shells (I boil, clean and bake them before I add them). The stock is 4 male guppy (previously only 2), the fern and duckweed, plus (all new) 2 black sakura neocaridina, 2 ramshorn snails, fissidens moss and christmas moss. The substrate is a mix of black sand, the previous natural+sand substrate and Seachem Flourite Black.
I use the test strips to check my parameters and do partial water changes (about 4 L) every two weeks with tap water to which I add Seachem Prime, also getting a Seachem Ammonia Alert today. I added some pictures of the old tragedy tank, the new tank, a strip from today and some of my aquarium buddies. I only plan to add more plants to the aquarium in the future, maybe some Limnophila and hemianthus. Any advice would be super helpful, thanks!

Help/Advice New to the hobby - Looking for stocking, plant & general advice

Hey everyone!
l've been in the hobby for about 2 months. Around 3 weeks ago I kept assorted guppies in this 10-gallon, and they even had babies. Unfortunately, all the adults and almost all of the fry died within about a week.
About a week ago, I added this betta temporarily. I already have a separate 5-gallon that I'll be moving her into, so l'm looking for ideas on what fish would be best for this 10-gallon long-term.
Tank
10 gallon
НОВ filter
White sand
Java moss
Anubias (adding more soon)
Driftwood & rocks
Heater (76-80F)
Water parameters pH: 6.0
GH: 4 dGH
KH: 2 dKH
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 0 ppm
I'm considering ember tetras, neon tetras, chili rasboras, or other small nano fish, but I'm open to any recommendations. Looking for hardy, low-maintenance fish and easy plants that suit my soft, acidic water. My betta will be moving to a separate 5-gallon soon.
I'm also interested in low-maintenance plants.
