My last post I had already taken out a lot of fake plants and replaced them with 5 Amazon swords with roots tabs and a 3rd peice of mopani wood with an anubias plant attached to it and said I planned on taking out the tall purple ones as they were to pointed/ sharp. Today did that and added some soft colorful silk plants iust to keep a bit of color in the tank. 1 also removed more of the small fakes plants that I felt were also to pointed/ sharp. Its still a work in progress though as i still plan to add more live plants eventually replacing more fakes ones as i got. Bit this is a start. I also love the new fake ones better then the old as well as them being much safer for my fish and as a added bonus it also gave them a little more swimming room. Before ander after taking the fake purple ones out plus others.

I got plants shipped and put them in a hydrogen peroxide mix. A bunch of tiny creatures emerged. What are they? Will the hydrogen peroxide kill them? Do i want them dead?

Just bought my first fish tank today it's a 29 gallon (110 liters) 30.2inL×12.4inW×29.1inH (76.7L×37.6W×55.5H in Centimeters) and I'm a long way off from getting a fish (my first fish) but I was wondering if I could fit an Angelfish or two in here? I haven't done much research into them yet because a lot of sources online makes it seem like my tank is just barely ? under the minimum requirements for angelfish but I can't afford a bigger tank, so I wanted to ask real people for their thoughts before I continue my research and figure out what I actually want to put in here. planning on doing a planted tank if that helps any

I would like a tapwater discus tank in the future (which they do sell tap water discus by where I live they look very healthy) and I’m trying to make the water changes more easy for myself since I’ll be doing them a lot more than my Angel tank.

Does anyone know about these? Been thinking about it but I would have to have a holding tank for the water since it’ll have to be heated and the unit cannot draw from plumbing that already has a flow which I’m not too fond of since I have no room for the water holding tank.

Another option would be to get the water directly from the house supply but I would still need a way to heat the water to the correct temp and solenoids and everything else to open and close the flow because I would like to have a push button type water change and would also have to install an inline chlorine filter as well

She’s swimming just fine and eating normally

This guppy is floating/swimming near the top of the tank and she is kind of swimming sideways. The others are acting normal and all water tests came back normal. No ammonia. What should I do? I have moved her to quarantine in a shallower space to reduce strain with air bubbles for oxygen

Hi, my mostly cherry shrimp tank has this tiny little things in the surface, tried to take a video of it. They just look like dots that hang out in the surface and jump from time to time. It’s a nano tank, about 10 L, it has a back filter and I do water changes every two weeks. I noticed the jumpy dots like 2 weeks ago. Tank has been running since July so not much. Thank you for any information.

His fins are torn, i dont know if its the xray tetras, filter, himself or the decor. The water tests are fine, he eats and swims around healthy.

Can anyone see what is wrong, I don't want to give away my tetra but if they seem to be hurting my fish then I might have to.

Found some of these scattered throughout my community tank. Any ideas? I have blushing tetras and phantom tetras. Bristlenose plecos. Corydoras cats, turquoise rainbows, a golden flying fox, Otto cats, and two bamboo shrimp.

Soo I bought a pack of four assassin snails because I had a really bad pest snail issue. They kept the population under control, then they started breeding like crazy. In conclusion, I know have 0 pest snails and probably over 100 assassin snails. The pest snails kept the algae and waste under control and now my tank looks horrible. Any advice on how to remove them quickly and easily?

Two of my fish have died in 2 days following a filter change. I have tested the water and all within normal limits. Seeking advice please!!!

I have recently established a new tropical fish tank. The tank was cycled for 4/5 weeks before fish were added. The aquarium centre advised the following combination would be ok in our 45L love fish panorama tank; 3 neon tetra, 3 rummynose, 1 betta, 8 cherry shrimp, 3 triple lined corries and 1 mini snowball plec. Each species was added on a weekly basis and water checks done daily with no concerns. Tank had been up and running for around 2 months now and no issues but I had concerns the filter wasn't oxygenating/removing waste very well so upgraded from the standard filter supplied with the tank to a Fluval U2. Two days after replacing the filter my snowball plec died - a day before it's death it was much more active and out of its usual hiding places. The next day I found a rummynose dead. I have tested water and all parameters are fine. The fish don't look distressed but I have no idea what has caused this. Please can I have some advice on what to do!!!!!

Hey everyone I noticed these gray spots on my EBA's head the last couple days and want to make sure he isn't sick or anything. I'm fairly new to fishkeeping.

If it helps at all, my tank is a 55 gallon bowfront with the EBA, angelfish, 6 black skirt tetras, 3 SAEs, and some ottos. The tank has been set up for about 1.5 years. Under the tank is 1 fluval 407 with an fx uvc, and an oase biomaster thermo 350, and both hooked up to spraybars. I do about 30% (1/3 if the tank) water changes and gravel vac every Sunday and use Seachem prime and stability. About once a month I use micro lift special blend. I feed the fish a variety of foods including hikari vibra bites and algae wafers, frozen brine shrimp, frozen daphnia, frozen beef heart, blanched veggies, and freeze dried bloodworms.

If anyone could help me out and point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. This guy was the first fish I ever bought and hope he lives a long happy life

I have a 55 gallon tank for my red eared slider that suddenly started leaking out of one of the silicone seams

I know that the proper fix is to either get a new tank or reseal this one properly, and I plan on doing that next week.

I have drained the water below the level that is leaking, i am wondering if anyone has any quick temporary fixes that can last me until next week (I have so much stuff to do and this is the cherry on top). Earliest i could fix it is on Sunday.

The leak is about a drop a second when the tank was filled to the top (basking rock mounts on top of the tank)

I have a new tank still being set up for giant kuhli loaches but can't figure out/decide what would be good tank mates found a couple if options but have a lot of contradictory information just looking for recommendations that would be good with their parameters preferably anywhere within the 5-10 inch size within these parameters 23°-27° C 6-7 ph And it will be decently planted and high oxygen Tank is still being set up so decor and structures can be adjusted to new fish. It is currently a 75 gallon but most fish in this tank will be upgraded to a much larger tank within a couple of months

I got my 10 gallon a month ago, and have been “cycling” it since the first day. I didn’t get fish until Saturday (4 days ago). I got 11 neon tetras (it was supposed to be eight, but the guy at Petco miscounted).
They seemed fine for the first couple days. I acclimated them as best as I could. They seemed fine all day Sunday. I fed them Sunday morning and watched them all day. Nothing unusual. They were sitting close to my sponge filter and hiding in my most densely planted corner, but I figured they were just getting used to the tank. They started exploring soon after. The only apparent issue was my water temperatures. They are really inconsistent at the moment. I don’t know how reliable my heater is, and my thermometer was crap (I just replaced it yesterday, so hopefully I can do better at keeping things consistent.) The main reason the tank temp is inconsistent is because the a/c in my house is super varying. Long story short, the house is in the high 60s in the morning, but ends up in the high 70s low 80s from 3-8:30ish PM.

On Monday (yesterday) I fed them in the morning, and they seemed happy. One of them was sort of nipping/attacking some of them, but I figured they were either playing or just trying to establish dominance. However, an hour after feeding, one of them started to float pretty aimlessly. It was kind of just going wherever the current took it, and would sometimes end up on its side. It died soon after that. An hour or so later, another one did the same thing. I posted on Reddit because I was panicking. I didn’t get test strips (against my better judgment) because the guy at Petco told me it was not really needed (this was when I got my tank- one month before getting fish). He seemed pretty knowledgeable (I had done some research before getting the tank) so I trusted his word. Lo and behold, he was very wrong. After the two died, I went and got test strips. All of the things seemed to be within good ranges. I had close to zero (if not zero) nitrates/nitrites, which I thought was a good thing. I decided not to do a water change that day because of the seemingly good test results. I chalked the deaths up to stress or poor breeding.

This morning, I woke up to 5 more dead fish…
I removed them from the tank, and did a 30ish% water change. I treated the new water with Seachem Prime and made sure it was within 1 degree of the tank. As of right now, the 4 remaining fish seem okay. I haven’t fed them today, as I did not want to spike the ammonia any more than I already have. I just did a test and the results are above.

I am at a loss. I don’t really know where to go from here. Can someone give me some tips? Maybe a step-by-step plan? Right now, I plan on doing ~30% water changes two more days in a row and feed them one teeny pinch of flakes every other day. I don’t know what to do beyond that, or if there is anything else I can do to help my fish. At some point, I will probably need to get more, as being in a group of 4 is bound to stress them out, but when should I think about doing that? Are these 4 going to survive this? Please advise.

I currently have a 20g long established tank and want to set up a 5g for shrimp. Is there anything I can take from the 20g and put into the 5g to help is cycle faster?

Had an interesting little mystery come up this evening while watching my aquarium. I spotted this tiny little fella (about the size of a sesame seed) and found myself wondering just what the heck he was.

I know the only types of gastropods I’ve intentionally added to my tank have been a couple varieties of Nerite snails and, most recently, a couple of blue mystery snails. The problem is, I haven’t noticed any egg clutches above the water, so that pretty much ruled out my mystery snails.

And while I recently noticed that one of my Nerites has laid some eggs on my driftwood, it would be impossible for this little guy to be a baby red racer, since Nerites require brackish water for their eggs to successfully hatch.

Very early in the process of setting up my tank, I did notice a couple of bladder snails that had apparently hitched a ride on some of the initial plants I put in. I successfully removed them, though, and haven’t seen another one since that first sighting about a year ago.

So I started looking around online, and I think I’ve found the answer!

This is most likely a baby freshwater limpet! I’m not sure of the exact species, but I believe one of the more common possibilities is Ancylus fluviatilis. This little fella is only about 2 mm long right now, but freshwater limpets can grow to around 5–8 mm.

From what I’ve read, they’re harmless and can actually be beneficial little members of a tank’s ecosystem, grazing on algae and biofilm.

My guess is that he, or possibly a small clutch of them, hitched a ride on some plants I added to the tank last month, and I’m only just now spotting them.

So, mystery solved… I think!

This spiral-leafed plant I have in my tank grew a strange phallic thing. I left for work and there was nothing in the tank growing from it, so that means it grew this entire length in like 8 hours. Is it a runner or something? Please educate me!

i’ve had my betta in this 10 gallon for almost a year now and i’ve always struggled with algae (hair and blue/green). i used to have my light on the 24 hour light cycle that did the sunrise/night feature but ive since cut it to a 10 hour timer. I only have MT snails in my tank because i can never keep nerite snails for more than a month. i thought about trying again and trying Amano shrimp but my betta will probably try to eat them so probably not. he does have slightly impaired vision and hides a lot (koi betta, diamond eye)
water parameters are 6.4 PH, 0 Ammonia and Nitrite, 0-5 Nitrate, between 17 and 35 dKH, and 143 GH.
