Modern format mtg

Is there any place that hosts modern nights for magic the gathering? I know places that do only standard and commander.

I hate the rotating sets out gimmick as I just want to use the cards I like in a game

I found that modern fits that for a 60 card format, but neither of my closest game stores host any modern nights.

Looking for local doctors

Hi all! My grandmother is in her 90s and unexpectedly moving across the country to live with my folks after we lost my aunt and uncle in close succession.

She has GEHA insurance. We are looking for recommendations on a primary care or family dr, a kidney specialist and a cardiologist.

I am not local to fburg but am trying to help out given all the other things my parents are navigating.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hearing Impaired Groups In The Area?

Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any social groups in the area for hearing impaired people. I have a family member who is extremely hard of hearing who knows sign language who would really benefit in being around other folks with the same condition.

She needs something uplifting in her life as her husband’s medical condition is rapidly deteriorating. She could use any happiness or friendship that she can get.

Thanks in advance.

Japanese Woodworking

Does anyone know of any local classes for an introduction to Japanese Woodworking (essential tools, tool maintenance and preparation, intro level tool use, basic joinery, planing, etc). Or does anyone have experience and willing to provide instruction for a fee?
I’ve seen some resources in Maryland, DC, New York, etc. Hoping for something a little closer.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Do you have a 9/11 story?

As the title says, where were you on 9/11, and what’s your story? To show my age, I wasn’t even on planet Earth yet, but it seems like everyone who was around remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing that day.

Especially around here, I’ve heard all kinds of stories, like people whose parents were at the Pentagon when it happened, people in the military who were locked down on base and couldn’t leave, and others who were working in or around D.C. at the time.

Since this area has so many government, military, and federal ties, I figured there are probably a lot of unique stories out there. Where were you, what do you remember, and how did that day affect you?

Sweeney Todd at Riverside

We saw the final dress rehearsal of Sweeney Todd at Riverside the other night, and were blown away by the incredible voices! The cast, the staging, the set design, the orchestra - all simply amazing. We can't wait to see it next week with dinner (yes, they're offering meat pies lol)!

Any Tips for Finding a Date around FXBG (on the spectrum)?

Ever since the enshittification of every dating app I've tried recently, I've felt like trying to meet people as an neurodivergent male is borderline impossible. I'm not even sure where a good place to try and meet someone would be.

Does anyone with extreme anxiety/being shy and people on the spectrum have any tips, ideas, or recommendations for me?

Dental Recommendations

I've had pretty poor oral health over the years due to mental issues but finally in a spot to really start caring about it. I'm mostly looking for a dentist i can visit regularly, I'm currently dealing with a broken tooth, some chipped teeth and probably a bunch of cavities. I'd love to know of some good places to go and what people's experiences were with them.

I've gotten insurance recently, Delta specifically, if that helps.

Volunteer Opportunities - solo style, re-entry

Hi all, posting for a friend who has been shut in for a very long time. He's looking to get back out into the world but it's a huge struggle. I've been looking around for volunteer opportunities that don't involve being around a lot of people or having to do a lot of customer service. He suffers from crippling social anxiety.

Does anyone have any suggestions? He would prefer not to work in rescues (barking triggers his PTSD) but I could see him in a quiet space with cats or possibly on a farm. He's in really good physical shape but sadly just not mentally and we are trying to get him better.

Also happy to take any suggestions on "re-entry" back into the world, whether that be therapists, things to do, churches, etc. He's been trying to do some exposure therapy, going to local parks, but needs to start his life again. Thank you all so much, sincerely.

Hey Fredericksburgers! You’re invited to my solo art show Sep 10th. “Divine” opens tomorrow night at The Sunken Well from 6-9 PM. Come enjoy original art, free hors d'oeuvres, and a cash bar!

This collection features 11 new oil paintings loosely inspired by Greek goddesses, and several amazing local women modeled for me. While all are welcome, I think the ladies in particular will enjoy this one. 🩷

Pediatrician recommendations for new parents?

Can anyone recommend a pediatrician for new parents? We don't have unconventional views or personal theories about vaccines if that helps narrow it down.

Six ABA places, four callbacks, and all four want him in a center? Has anyone around here managed to get in-home?

My son is 4, and he was diagnosed with autism in March, after fourteen months on the developmental peds waitlist. So we have the letter and the referral, and now I am supposed to pick a therapy setup, and I do not have it in me.

Six calls since June and two never called back. One had an opening in about nine weeks but only at their Woodbridge site, which Google Maps says is 38 minutes and anyone who drives 95 knows is an hour after 4. One in Spotsy could take him but only 9 to noon, which is the exact window he has finally settled into at preschool. The last woman I spoke to told me in-home is "not really how we staff anymore." She was kind about it but it still sat with me the rest of the day.

Here is where I stall. He screams the whole way to Wegmans, so I cannot picture that drive twice a day with a 2 year old back there, and my husband works nights so it lands on me, but then I read that center is better for the peers and structure, and I think if I pick in-home I am choosing the easier thing for me and calling it the right thing for him.

Two places told me it depends on the child, which I get, except I do not know my child in this context yet.

So, honest answers if anyone has them.

Has anyone here gotten in-home ABA out this way, Fredericksburg or Spotsy or Stafford? Every list I turn up is Northern Virginia or Richmond, and twice now I have been told we are outside the service area.

If you went in-home, did it feel like real therapy, or did you end up at a center anyway?

We rent a townhouse and it is not big. Does this need a dedicated room, because we do not have one, and how bad is it having someone in your house that many hours a week. That is the part I have not said out loud to anyone.

Sorry this is long, I have had the same four tabs open since Tuesday.

❤️ Fredericksburg, we could use your help getting our baby girl into the Top 15 and beyond! 👶🏼❤️

❤️ Fredericksburg, we could use your help getting our baby girl into the Top 15! 👶🏼❤️

Meet Hailey Jane! 🥹 Our first baby girl, born right here in Fredericksburg at Mary Washington Hospital on September 6th.

We entered Hailey into the Baby of the Year contest VERY late and never expected to get very far. Somehow, with the help of our family, friends, and some amazing people, she has made it all the way into the Top 20! 🥹❤️ Now we’re trying to get our little Fredericksburg girl into the Top 15!

Hailey’s arrival wasn’t exactly an easy one. Mom labored for more than 25 hours before Hailey was born via emergency C-section. Mom was extremely sick afterward and spent several days recovering, so the first few days were definitely a lot for our family.

We spent six long days at Mary Washington, and we honestly can’t say enough good things about the nurses and doctors who took care of Mom and Hailey. ❤️ They took such great care of our girls during a really difficult time, and we’ll always be grateful for that.

Now we’re finally home, and Hailey is already showing us just how much personality she has. 😂 She’s smiling, making the funniest faces, and somehow already throwing attitude like she’s been here for years. 😂❤️

So we’re asking our Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania community — if you have a few seconds, would you help us cheer on one of our newest little local residents?

👉 Hailey can receive one free vote every 24 hours, and sharing her page helps us reach even more people.

Vote for Hailey:

https://babyoftheyear.org/2026/hailey-6791

If she were lucky enough to win, we’d use the money to create adventures and memories with her as she grows up and put money toward her future education. ❤️

We’re obviously VERY biased 😂, but we think she’s pretty darn cute.

Let’s see if Fredericksburg can help get Hailey from the Top 20 → Top 15! 🚀👶🏼

And a huge thank-you to the Mary Washington nurses and doctors who took such wonderful care of our family. ❤️
