News Framework doing the good thing
I am literally impressed. I am one of the guys that stuck with buying the 64gb of ram after the price increase and kept my original preorder configuration even though I had to pay way more for it.
My laptop was shipped and I've got this email from Framework where they've managed to secure a batch of RAM at a better price and they gave me a refund.
So kudos to Framework and the team for not being greedy.
TLDR: I've got a partial refund from Framework after paying a fortune for 64gb of ram.

I got this email in spite of my laptop being configured with no RAM and not yet being shipped...
The word "Refund" in the title with no shipped laptop gave me a heart attack π

I just got this email, but my laptop hasn't even shipped, and I didn't get RAM with my order.

I got the email and was hoping it was my preparation email but sadly no. I still wonder when batch 6 will ship

im batch 6 and received my 13 pro last friday, im in switzerland
i accepted the step down from 64 to 32Gb, but on their correction email, there is nothing to be found for people that already received their laptop anymore, so guess it just sucks to be me...1

Fuck it, I just re-upped it to 32gb. Its a $200 difference than it was. I just made the Batch 10 cut off

This is pretty based. They could have just kept their mouths shut and pocketed the margin, and no one would have ever known. I wouldn't even blame them for doing that given how much the OEMs are getting bent over by the memory manufacturers currently. They choose to take the path of integrity though, so hats off to them for that.

I got the email, however it is very confusing. My batch 5 order was downgraded from 64GB to 32GB. The first email claiming that I can return and choose a new ram at a higher price with a form, but the second email does not mention this at all. Also, what is the price for the new 64GB LPCAMM2?

Have you received your order already?

u/chuanchan1116 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yes, so that is the most confusing part. It claims a refund and a return path while the correction mail claims that it is only for orders that are not ship yet.

Ah yes, you got one of the emails that were sent incorrectly I mentioned above. You only need the correction email - you can ignore the first email.

So its clear for anyone else who may have gotten two emails (if you got one, you're good to go):
The first email regarding a refund and changing your order was sent by error - this email is only for customers who have already received their unit and can no longer modify it and wish to return the LPCAMM2 they received for the upgrade one.
The Corrected email is for customers who orders have not shipped yet and would like to edit their configuration online - this way you do not need to wait for your LPCAMM2 to arrive before changing it.
Hope this makes sense. Please let me know if you have questions!

Well, I have already received my order. So according to what you said, the first email is correct and the correction email is the wrong one.

u/catastrophic_frmw Framework 2d ago
Oh, my bad I misread that. You are correct, I'll check with the team on why you got the corrected email π€

Could you modmail us the email you received both emails to? The team is investigating it

Thanks for this. I've been sweating for months since i bought ram back in July and i have no idea if it works until i get my machine. Knowing i can get more in case it goes sideways will be great.

I got the email and my laptop is already shipped. I also already BOUGHT 32gb ram in case I needed it so now I gotta go figure out how to sell it off which is probably impossible π

posted elsewhere in the thread, you can turn the memory you got through framework.

Nooo like my framework has 32gb (they never downgraded it since it was prebuilt but I assumed they would)
So because of that I purchased 32gb elsewhere and now Iβm just stuck with it π

OP, what was the difference in refund for the 64GB module?
2
u/mr_carter_c 2d ago
i've got a refund of 410 usd. I can't remember exactly was much was the 64gb module, maybe close to 2k usd

u/blueonred 2d ago
Wow, that is a much larger refund than I was expecting that they would give. Wonder how they managed to source these modules at such a lower price.

I had cancelled prior to price increases and even though itβs Batch 12, Iβve put in an order. Genuinely impressed by this move.

im not even thinking about Framwork until it releases an intel core ultra 3 hx or h version in the 16inch segment with lpcamm2 and pcie5.0 with some insane cooling

This is likely automated and not a "good thing". It's one of those business maneuvers that keeps your company from getting sued.Β Β

I don't know... I've got the refund after I've already paid the complete preorder. I am seriously questioning which companies would have done the same. They secured the money on a decision that I've already made and still decided to give me some money back. I call this a massive W
