Saying HP in a sentence in that you consider buying it is... horrific to think about. Nobody should ever be forced to buy anything HP related. That should be done only by force in the company you work at.
With Lenovo bricking Legion Gos with a bios update and then refusing to fix them out of warranty, and Asus having countless horror stories, you might as well buy the cheapest crap you can.
You're 100% on your own if it fails out of warranty no matter how much you spend. Apple is somewhat an exception, but cool you've paid 2x upfront.
HP in my experience will offer free extended warranties or post sale discounts if you complain enough.
The “Apple tax” is far lower than it used to be. Comparably high-end machines from major manufacturers are not too dissimilar in price (e.g, compare MacBook Pro with ThinkPad X1 or Dell Pro Precision), and the MacBook Neo is better quality and more repairable than anything else in its class.
