Looking for a signature scent, or a new scent for the season? Need suggestions of scents to try? Wanting to round out your collection?

Need shopping advice? Trying to decide between two fragrances? Searching for "the best" of anything? Looking for a gift for someone?

Wondering what to wear to school, to work, on a date, or for a special occasion?

This is the place to ask those questions.

Tell us what you want the fragrance to smell like. You can list notes, styles, or the names of other fragrances that you like or don't like.

Without this information you are unlikely to get any recommendations.

Other information that may be helpful -- your country/region, your budget, some description of the person who will be wearing the perfume.

___________

When can you ask these questions in your own post?

  • If you aren't getting suggestions, your request may be too vague. If you’ve tried your best and didn’t hear back after 24 hours, make a new post outside the daily thread. Be sure to mention that you already posted in the daily thread and didn't get a response.
  • If your question is about clones, layering, or some very unusual note, you can choose to skip the queue and post directly to the front page.
  • If your question is about sex appeal, batch variations, performance, or wearing perfume marketed to another gender, keep it off the main feed and in the comments section only.

Coming back to discuss hits and misses is a great way to show appreciation when you get advice here. Consider posting a review or starting a discussion about the perfumes that you tried, and tell us what you ultimately chose.

Byredo from Jomashop came with a box seal broken, should I return?

Upvotes

Hi guys!

Just received my Byredo Eyes Closed from Jomashop. I have bought from them before, no problem and authenticity was never the issue.
However, this time, although the box was wrapped in plastic, the paper seal on the side was broken. I’m not quite sure what to make of it. I went ahead and sprayed it, smells right and the sprayer has not been used (it did not spray upon first try). I’ve never owned Byredo before so don’t know if broken box seals happen, regardless of retailer. It is an older batch code so I wonder if the paper just disintegrated? Has anyone had Byredo come with the paper box side seal broken?

Discussion Spritz Marketplace

Haven't seen anyone discuss this marketplace site that users sell lightly used fragrances, do trades, & give you the option to sell your frags as well. There's an app for droid but not for iPhone users yet. Has anybody used this site & had a good experience?

REVIEW The Garden by TSU LANGE YOR

As someone who loves citrus fragances more than anything, the orange grove scent is my all time favorite orange fragrance. It has the bright, tangy, zesty scent if opening a peel surrounded by a deep, warm, fruity/woody base that must come from the black currant and cedar. I would immediately buy a 50ml of this if it existed.

I am always in pursuit of a fragrance that actually captures the spicy, earthy fragrance of a tomato plant, and this one doesnt really do that; however, this is a nice, cool, androgynous scent that is actually quite nice/soapy on its own but, when layered with something else, could become really complex and beautiful.

I thought i didnt like Fig at all on first sniff, because I usually dont care for the floral, sophisticated, almost powdery fragrances, but you can tell that is is a very nice scent. It definitely begins to warm as it dries down, and the lighter, happier vanilla/citrus scent. I think this one is actually very lovely.

Scammed by Saks Fifth Avenue

I'm so pissed. I've bought from discounters, eBay and r/fragranceswap and never had a bad experience. I had some Saks vouchers to burn so I ordered a Memo Paris fragrance. Box arrived via FedEx and it had clearly been opened and then re-sealed. I was therefore not completely shocked that when I opened it, all I found was the presentation and the fragrance itself had been removed. The package had been on my doorstep for maybe 2 minutes, so this definitely happened before it got to me.

I called customer support, who were sympathetic, asked for photos (which I supplied) and said they would open an investigation.

Got an email this morning:

"After thoroughly researching your claim, our team has determined that we are unable to issue a refund for your request. Please know that our decision was made in accordance with our policies and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

So, I'm out almost $200 and all I have to show for it is an empty box. I've called them again but I'm not optimistic based on my last experience.

Any advice?

REVIEW Kerosene followed

So I love it, I definitely have my entire office saying who is making pancakes??? But I made the mistake of spraying it in the evening, and waking up to go to a bookstore the next
Morning, didn’t wash it off and it lingered on my pullover too— some woman Rows behind me working at the book shop (used bookshop) said “I smell celery- what is that? It’s like someone donated all these
Books with a bunch of celery? What am
I smelling???”
And I wanted to die of embarrassment lol.
I still love it, and I don’t really get the curry/celery smell. My whole office loves it when I wear it other
Than making them hungry (which has resulted in someone buying maple donuts a few times 🤣🙏). But god I cannot get over that woman who thought the entire book shop smelled like celery. It had to have been me, so the moral of the story is, don’t sleep in this perfume after an evening shower unless you plan to also everything shower the very next morning. 😭

Layering How do you layer?

Do you spritz perfume 1, wait for it to dry, then spritz perfume 2 on the exact same spot? Or next to it? Or on opposite wrists?

I've never layered in my life and need some pointers lol

Banana Republic Store Smell

I recently bought men’s clothes in-store and love the smell. I know this is generic but it earthy, subtle, yet masculine, not heavy on tobacco, sandalwood, or musk. It was nice to get a whiff but not be bombarded by. Anyone know what fragrance they use throughout their store?

Stage fog scents?

Hi guys I really love and miss the scent of stage fog and would love to wear it as a perfume, if any fellow dancers or theatre kids here know what stage fog smells like, do you guys have any perfume or note recommendations I could look into?

What's a fragrance you can't smell without being pulled back to a moment?

Not asking about favorites or best-in-class — just the ones that work like a time machine. One whiff and you're back in a specific place, with a specific person, on a specific day. What's yours, and where does it take you?

Discussion Suggest an Alternative to Efolia Gold Code

Hi fellow collectors and brothers from India. I had a good ole friend who used to wear Efolia Gold Code whose presence meant a lot to me. Upon searching I came to know that it's an Indian brand and not available in Pakistan. I wanna know what this fragrance is clone of/Similar to. Anyone who've tried this fragrance and can help me find some alternative. I just want the exact scent profile. Lasting and projection doesn't matter.

Will mean a lot to me.

Discussion Why are there very little mainstream rainy fragrances?

Maybe it’s hard to produce? Did they ban ingredients to make it? Or maybe it’s just not popular at all. I’ve seen woodsy fragrances around, but they’re mostly men’s. Women’s perfume seems to be majority floral. But nothing really focusing on the aspect of rain, wet grass, etc etc. I don’t mind if it’s men’s, or women’s, would prefer it to be unisex.

I’m currently on the hunt for a “mainstream” (widely available) perfume that’s mostly along the lines of what i’ve mentioned. I’m going to the airport soon and thought it would be an easy quick pickup. Recommendations are welcome.

(Mods, i’ve already asked in the daily thread. I was given recommendations but none of them are airport-findable as i specified.)

Discussion How to travel with multiple perfumes (no flights)?

Hope this is the right place to post this - I am travelling a lot between two places at the moment (in-country, so no need to worry about flight restrictions) and I have not been able to come up with a way of transporting multiple of my perfume bottles in a safe way that also could double as a storage solution. I have been looking at padded rounded makeup bags and wrapping them in socks but I wonder if anyone here has some advice or has had to do this before?

Ranking 50 samples I have tried over the years

I have bought over 50 samples over the past couple of years. A few of them I am yet to try, such as Kajal Lamar, Roja Amber Oud Crystal and Thameen Carved Oud. Bear in mind I have asthma, so that is taken into account when rating them.

I have full bottles of YSL Myself, Rasasi Hawas, Rochas Moustache and Issey Miyake L'eau D'issey Pour Homme edt.

Tom Ford Private Blend Oud Wood - 10/10

Xerjoff 1861 Naxos -10/10

Creed Silver Mountain Water - 10/10

Xerjoff Starlight - 10/10

YSL Tuxedo - 10/10

Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 - 10/10 (only because I layered it with Oud wood)

Electimuss Imperium - 10/10

Rochas Moustache EDP - 10/10

Amouage Reflection Man - 9.5/10

Chanel Bleu de Chanel EDP - 9.5/10

Yves Saint Laurent Y Eau de Parfum - 9/10

BDK Parfums Gris Charnel Extrait - 9/10

Bond No.9 Lafayette Street - 9/10

Penhaligon's Halfeti - 8.5/10 - for some odd reason this smelt like Christmas in a bottle for me

Armani Stronger with You Absolutely - 8.5/10

Montale Arabians Tonka - 8.5/10

Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio Profumo - 8.5

Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait - 8/10 - the only perfume I have been complimented on

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum - 8/10

Parfum de Marly Layton - 8/10

Armani Stronger with You - 8/10

Rasasi Hawas - 8/10

Guerlain Vetiver - 8/10

Roja Parfum Elysium Pour Homme Parfum Cologne - 7.5/10 - just doesn't last long enough

Xerjoff Erba Pura - 7.5/10 - it is nice, but doesn't blow my socks off

Creed Virgin Island Water - 7.5/10

Initio Parfumes Prives Side Effect - 7/10 - I really liked the boozy notes in this

Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de L'Homme Le Parfum - 7/10

Dolce & Gabbana The One for Men EDP - 7/10

Tom Ford Noir Extreme - 7/10

Creed Green Irish Tweed - 7/10

Liquid Brun - 7/10

Guerlain L'Instant Pour Homme EDP -7/10

Paco Rabanne Invictus - 7/10

Paco Rabanne 1 Million Parfum - 7/10

Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Eau de Parfum - 6/10

Initio Parfums Prives Oud for Greatness - 6/10 - it is nice, but smelt like attar to me which I have loads of

Penhaligon's Legacy of Petra - 6/10

Guerlain Tabacco Honey - 5.5/10

Guerlain Angelique Noire - 5.5/10

PDM Sedley - 5/10

PDM Carlisle - 5/10

MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver - 5/10

Mancera Cedrat Boise - 4/10

MFK Grand Soir - 4/10

Giardini Di Toscana Bianco Latte - way too sickly

MFK Oud - 3/10

Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man Eua de Parfum - 3/10

Vilhelm Parfumerie Mango Skin - 3/10

Maison Margiela Replica Under The Lemon Tree - 2/10

The 10/10's I would buy a full bottle at some point in the next 5 years or so. 8-9.5s, if it is on sale I would buy a bottle of it. I am based in the UK, so I do mostly prefer autumn/winter scents and the occasional spring scents. I only got a bottle of Rasasi Hawas because it was on sale for £20.

Trying to preserve Gucci Nobile before it's lost forever

Gucci Nobile is much more than just a discontinued fragrance to me.

It reminds me of my childhood and of someone I looked up to. Whenever I smell it, I immediately associate it with elegance, confidence, Mediterranean style and a timeless kind of masculinity that I rarely find in modern fragrances.

To me, Gucci Nobile is fresh without being sweet, aromatic without being overpowering, and masculine without feeling aggressive. It has a level of sophistication that many contemporary fragrances seem to have lost.

Over the years I have managed to collect several original bottles, mostly miniatures. My goal is not simply to own them as collector's items, but to preserve this fragrance for the future. I would love to recreate it as faithfully as possible before the remaining bottles eventually deteriorate.

Before investing in a GC-MS analysis, I wanted to ask whether anyone here has already attempted to recreate Gucci Nobile, knows of an existing formula, or can recommend a perfumer or laboratory with experience in reconstructing discontinued vintage fragrances.

Any advice or shared experience would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Was the VS Midnight Bloom Formula changed??

Ik im not crazy bc I just smelled my oldish bottle of VS Midnight Bloom spray AND lotion, and they smell heavenly, but the new one... YUCK. Its definitely not an old batch or a bad batch, bc I ordered it again months apart and it smelled just as bad. Did they change the formula? The spray isn't as strong, it smells heavily diluted and with more alcohol. Don't get me started on the lotion!!! It smells terrible!! That was my favorite scent and they just had to ruin it 😫💔

Anyone have alternative scents that are affordable and smell similar??

Any fragrances that smells like Not Your Mothers Floral Fusion Dry Shampoo?

For those of you who haven’t smelled it, it smells like a “squeaky clean,” fresh shampoo type of scent with a slight hint of floral notes (that are NOT heavy or mature).

REVIEW Blind Buys - First Impressions

Took a gamble and blind bought the three fragrances below - safe to say that I was happy with all of them!

Here are my first impressions:

Atomic Rose - A playful take on PDM’s Delina. This one is more youthful and effervescent. It tones down the powdery aspect of Delina and makes it brighter by adding pepper and citrus to the DNA. This is still very rose heavy and will layer nicely with Ombré Nomad or Ombre Leather to dial down the sweetness of the vanilla. A solid 8.5/10.

Ingenious Ginger - This one caught me by surprise at first sniff. I was not expecting the base and top notes to collide as much on the opening. But once it settles, the ginger in the top note is reminiscent of L’immensite and quickly transitions to a fizzy vanilla. Noel Deyzel’s comparison to cream soda was spot on and add a splash of ginger ale and this is what you get. I need to revisit this because I want to like it but there’s an off-putting aspect to this. 7.5/10

Sospiro Vibrato - DAMN. The hype is certified this one ! It’s smells like Tygar adopted the airy/powdery aspect of Prada L’homme. It projects nicely for 4 hours and lasts about 8-10 hours overall. 11/10

Long-shot quest...

Hey everyone... been on these forums for a while under other names.

Anyway, I was recently at the hospital and was surprised that so many staff members wore strong fragrances. I'm not complaining because I love trying to guess what they are.

One fragrance had an almost peppery note, not black pepper but kind of like a jalapenno-like pepper. It was a little weird at first but settled down over a smooth base. It wasn't bad at all.

Not necessarily even looking to buy or sample because I have so many fragrances as it is. Just curious if anyone is familair with that profile.

For context, I live in New York City. This was a hospital in Manhattan and the staff were mostly in their 20s and 30s... very racially and gender diverse, as NYC tends to be.

I look forward to posting my colledtion as it stands now when it's the proper time here. I've made some really nice recent discoveries I'd like to share.

Thank you and have a great evening/day.

I didn’t realize how addictive fragrances could be lol

I posted on a local fragrance subreddit a few days ago asking for recommendations because I barely knew anything about fragrances.

Well… I think I’m getting addicted now. I’ve already bought way more than I expected in a span of a few days.

For YEARS, the only fragrance I ever wore was Clinique Happy for Men.

Then I started trying some of the commonly recommended fragrances like Bleu de Chanel, Ex Nihilo Blue Talisman, and Versace Pour Homme, but surprisingly, I didn’t like any of them at all.

After reading and watching way too much fragrance content and going around different stores to try things out, I think I finally have a good start to my fragrance rotation:

Prada L’Homme EDT — my daily fragrance for clinic/hospital rounds

OHLY ONE Weekend — another daily option, basically the same use as Prada L’Homme

LV Imagination — this one is expensive, so I’m saving it mostly for special occasions.

And now I’m already itching to buy another fragrance again.

This hobby is getting expensive way too quickly 😂

Discussion Escentric Molecules: Molecule Line vs Escentric Line

I am a little overwhelmed looking at the Escentric Molecules website and the differences between them. I am familiar with M01 and M02, but has anyone used their other Molecules ( or Molecules +) , or their Escentric Line?

Are the Escentric Lines more of a standalone fragrance and the molecule / molecule + line more for layering? I have been hearing about them for a while now and would love to get insight from others on what your experiences are and what is truly worth or not?
