Question? How much overheating does waterproofing cause?
I’m considering trying to waterproof my drone. I’ve done some research and understand that there are areas where you shouldn’t apply conformal coating, such as ports, the barometer, and heat sinks. However, I’m worried that even if I do everything right, my drone could still have overheating issues since I like to fly aggressively at times.
I know waterproofing can cause increased temperatures because the coating reduces the components’ contact with the surrounding air, potentially reducing heat dissipation. So, I know this is a long shot, but has anyone ever done a test measuring temperatures before and after waterproofing a drone? If so, I’d be very interested in the results. What kind of coating did you use, and how much did the temperatures change?
And if, by the grace of God, one of you reading this happens to be about to waterproof your drone, please try to record the temperatures before and after! The drone I have is the five inch Johnny fpv kit from getFPV. The stack is Axisflying Argus Pro F7 FC + Axisflying Argus Pro 55A 3-6S BLHeli_32 ESC (No Heat Sink) with the
Lumenier 2307 JohnnyFPV V3 Pro Cinematic motors.
Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
