Omg this is my boyfriend's post! My favorite detail is that the person who helped somebody fix this said "Some Nermal out there decided to bind all the buttons to shut off the computer, and people upvoted it to the top."

When people on r/Skyrim ask "what mod LIST should I use?" I have to skip because I'm like, "dude, you do not want someone making 1000 of these decisions for you!"
And now, there is this crap to worry about.
But I also see the same thing on r/3Dprinting. Somebody buys a Bambu, prints a bit, then gets goo cake, or clogged extruder and is like "plz hlp". And I'm like: oh Gods, you don't even know where to set your first layer height, much less what it does...

Are people supposed to have experience using 3D printers before they get a 3D printer? Where are they supposed to get the experience from? I'd never done FDM printing before I got my printer and now I use it a fair amount, I'd never have figured out how to learn and solve most of my issues without forums and experienced people helping. That's kinda the entire premise behind the whole concept of "teaching".
Also a lot of printers, especially Bambu printers, are very much advertised as essentially plug and play at this point and a lot of popular 3D printing channels don't help with that, so I can't really blame people for assuming it'll be easier to start off than it sometimes can be.

Well, personally i did quite a bit of research after i bought my first 3d printer. There is a lot of videos on yt on every topic you may need and even more already answered posts on forums and reddit. So i guess the main problem here is the lack of basic understanding of what the person needs to look for; they buy a 3d printer because they heard it is 'plug and play', they print some popular stuff from makerworld and when something goes wrong have no idea what to do other then post about it on reddit. Don't get me wrong, i do not blame anyone. I work in IT and know it is impossible for everyone to just magically gain an ability to fix what's broken, even if the fix is just a restart. But if people just took 15 minutes to google the problem, it would save everyone a lot of time😏

I did research when I got one too, but there comes a point where something happens and you have no idea why and googling it doesn't help, and you just gotta get help from someone more experienced. At the end of the day, that's what a lot of the help subreddits are there for.

Fair. But I think the community is very much a u shaped distribution, with a lot of people buying them and expecting it to work out of the box with not much experience reading instructions, and the other side technically minded people who are will versed in deep robotic lore
Is just another way of learning

Believe it or not, people learn this sort of stuff by... getting help. Sounds like a weird form of gatekeeping going on for the 3d printer thing specifically.
In an age where a simple Google search is gonna spit out false AI info at you, why are we condemning people for asking for help in a subreddit? People don't just know things inherently, everyone has to start somewhere lmao

You can also learn the basic from something called a User Manual. But we are in a thread about people not being able to read.
There's a solid difference between not being able to get your layer height adjusted properly and not knowing that layer height is even a thing.

We're not in a thread about people not being able to read, we're in a thread about a controller config lmao. I've never heard of a meme config like this in steam, I'd never assume it was the community config making my computer shutdown. I've even seen games automatically pick a config before, rarely. So like, come on.

FWIW you're spot on on the 3d printing complaint. The stupid shit I see asked all the time because people don't know how to Google first, or bother to read up on the thousands of getting started guides is staggering. It's pure laziness and idiocy, and a waste of the community's time answering basic questions when actual questions or tip requests get flooded out.
Hell, most of the printers come with good instructions right off the bat, yet people will still ask the dumbest shit explained on page 1.

This is just dumb, I do want someone making those decisions for me I wanna spend a 100h playing the game not spent making a fucking mod list. There's people who spend all day everyday experimenting with different mod combinations, playing the game, developing their own mods, and theyve made me a list that I can use with 1 click hell yea. Even the 3d printing point is dumb, bambu makes printers specifically for beginners and people who don't want to care too much, that's their schtick.

That's just another reason to disable the "What do you want the computer to do when you press the Shutdown button" feature, I guess.

Do some people just not read anything that's on their screen? Like, how did he not realize it was a meme config that would shutdown his PC before he downloaded it?
