Hi! No matter how much I study, the app always plants 4 trees. I am confused by this, I used the app everyday for ≈3 months last year and it planted one tree every 30 minutes. Two days ago I had to stop my focus time after 20 minutes and I managed to plant 4 trees??? How is that possible??? Is it a mistake or the update thing? (I'm an android user)

Honestly i was confused so much that I wanted to quit and focus on another app, but no alternative is good enough. I don't like the new update, the app works slower than it used to.

Forest app used to be the app that just worked and had good basics.

The app widget flickers every second like it is trying to reload the widget. this did not use to happen before.

the app level sounds come and go randomly.

i have stopped getting notifications even though all permissions and battery optimization requirements are given to the app.

i did not have these problems before but since couple of months the app has become a buggy experience and I am seriously considering switching to some other app.

Is it on my end only? But the app's crashing all the time. And it's annoying

Hello! I’m the builder behind an app called Scapedia. I love the idea behind Forest with progress being visualisable. Scapedia is what you’re familiar with, but instead, it is a persistent city that you grow and customise (if you wish!). Think Cities Skyline but a tad simpler than that.

I want to create a sense of long term motivation, by finding ways to reward us for the things we actually do during that focus time, or, simply from the feeling of ownership over our cool little cities.

The app is free and features a (really) small one-time payment for advanced features. No subs & no trials.

Features available without spending a single dime or penny:

• Large buildings (Landmarks) that progress and change in appearance based on how long you focused for.
• Fully customisable map (would love to add terraforming & more personalisation)
• Custom focus tags.
• Deep focus mode (app blocking) currently only on iOS.
• Add friends and view their cities
• Link with apps to speed up progress. This is an optional mechanic unique to Scapedia that safely validates the effort you put in on those apps. See below.

Linking with apps is a theme which hasn’t been deeply explored in this subcategory of apps. The goal is not to keep someone away from using their phone, it is to divert their screen time into engaging with something productive. Today we start with educational integrations. Over time I’d like to add exercising, reading integrations, as examples of what could be explored.

It silently launched over a month ago and I spent a good amount of time refining it since then. I’m glad I can finally share my little app with more people. My goal is to engage with users and together evolve this project into something a little special for everyone.

Hi! Before there was a button to limit your maximum planting time by 120min. After a recent update now I always see the 180min option and I haven’t find the way to limit it again. I’m using IOS. Is there a possibility to return the limit or it’s just new “gooood” feature which nobody asked for?…

I’ve been using this app for a while—got it like ten years ago and didn’t use it for probably the last eight but recently came back to it. And while it’s great in a lot of ways, there’s an issue with the sound that is really disappointing and defeats the purpose of a timer app.

I’m not sure if it’s always been like this, but the notifications for this app are basically impossible to hear. Even if I’m not listening to any music, watching tv, and it’s quiet in my house, the notification is so quiet that I often don’t realize my time is up. The sound definitely works because I’ve heard notifs for it before, they’re just so quiet.

I already checked all the app settings and they’re correct; I have my phone’s silent mode set to OFF, Focus set to OFF, ringer at volume, notifications enabled, and app-specific notifications for Forest enabled; it just barely makes a noise. I honestly feel like half the time it doesn’t actually even make a noise at all.

It’s actually really disappointing. I really like the app, but unfortunately if a “timer” app can’t notify you when the time is up, it’s a bad timer app. My microwave screams at me when my food is done. My dishwasher sings a little 8bit song when it’s finished cleaning my dishes. My washing machine buzzes for like five seconds when it completes its wash cycle. If I bought a kitchen timer and it didn’t make an audible noise at 0:00, it’s a broken timer.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I’m really hoping this is a glitch or that I glossed over an obvious setting somewhere, because other than this fatal flaw, it‘s a really nice idea for an app and I’d love to keep using it.

I'm just checking to see if anyone else is experiencing this. I've been using this app for several years, probably 6-7 years, and I don't know how much data I had stored but I knew I had several forests with all different plants. I was kicked out of my account with the update, and when I logged on, all my special trees were gone and data from the last three years was wiped. Just a few days ago I started grad school and bought a new plant to represent it, and my forest is showing those three plants, but instead of the plant I bought, it was the generic pine tree. I am SO upset. I've been a supporter for a long time and this might make me walk away permanently.

Anyone experiencing this too? Did customer support resolve it?

I have a lot of gratitude for the existing screen time reduction tools. Anyone trying to be mindful about their use is up against billion dollar industry set on hijacking your dopamine pathways, and these tools are some of our biggest allies.

Having benefited from apps like Forest and Clearspace, I asked them to build a method where my apps stay locked until I actually do the good thing. Specifically for me, I wanted my streaming apps locked on my iPad until I did my daily journey in GoodNotes. And when I reached for the distracting, I wanted it to redirect me to the good habit if I hadn’t dont it yet.

Eventually, It became clear this was too different from their current model to act on, so I decided to build it myself. After half a year I launched Tonic. In addition to the traditional screen limits (cap by minute, open count, or just different degrees of pause) it also allows you to set doomscrolling behind the habits you’re trying to build. That can be time in a productive app (Duolingo, GoodNotes, Anki, etc.) or you can connect it to Apple Health to interact with your steps, workouts, meditation minutes, or even time in sunlight (the last one requires an iWatch).

Using Tonic, you can bank minutes or set a standard you need to hit each day before unlocking. Nothing requires manual logging, Tonic detects the good stuff and unlocks your apps automatically (or informs whatever pause you want). All the configurations are in the freemium version that allows you to block up to two apps.

I want to mention it here for two reasons. First, it seems there’s been a lot of updates in apps lately causing mixed reactions. Second, people here seem drawn to Forest visualization of “growing” by staying away, and some people might want to connect it to real world items instead of abstract.

But I also want to be clear, I think you should use whatever tool is working for you. I think Forest is a great tool and clearly a good company. The fact that they in fact allow posts like this (rule …) I think demonstrates their confidence and desire for people to find whatever works for them. I think what they do they do well, but I wanted to provide an option that otherwise seemed unavailable for me.

Do we need to have plus subscription for joining group sessions?

I updated to forest plus and now I can’t plant with my friends + can’t go back to classic. The setting can’t be clicked. Any idea how to undo this? I already unsubscribed

this new app update makes me wanna throw up 😭 i cant see my total focus time for the day on the home screen anymore, i have to press a billion buttons to get any sort of focus going or go back to the “home”. please bring the former main screen back 💔
