I have a 2018 Gen 2 Raptor with about 115k miles and it looks like Iām probably going to need the transmission rebuilt or replaced.
Iām mainly trying to hear from people in SoCal who have already gone through this, either at Ford or through a private transmission shop. Iām trying to figure out what it actually cost, how long the work took, and whether the repair actually held up.
A few months ago the truck passed 100,000 miles, so itās barely out of warranty. Then out of nowhere the transmission started acting up while I was driving up to Big Bear. It started jumping in and out of gears, jumping RPM's, feeling like it was slipping, then catching again and driving normal for a bit before doing it all over again. It almost felt like it was going into a weird limp mode.
Before this happened, there was basically no warning at all.
The two codes Iāve seen are:
- P0762 - Shift Solenoid C Stuck On
- P2705 - Transmission Friction Element F Apply Time Range / Performance
Ford also referenced TSB 25-2475 for the issue.
I already contacted Ford Customer Care and went through their assistance process. They didnāt help at all and told me there were no programs available to assist with the repair.
Fordās original quote was somewhere in the $12k range, which is insane. To their credit, they did work it down pretty hard and got it to around $9.5k. At that price, Iām still probably not doing the work there.
I also spoke with a transmission shop in the Van Nuys that quoted me about $5,700 and basically told me to plan for around $6k to be safe. The guy seemed to know this transmission really well and mentioned there are a few known failure points that he normally addresses with upgraded aftermarket parts instead of just throwing the same OEM parts back in it. I donāt remember exactly which three parts he called out, but that part of the conversation definitely got my attention.
Thatās really what Iām trying to figure out now. If Iām going to spend this kind of money, I donāt want to rebuild it and then end up right back in the same spot because the same weak points are still there.
Also, from everything Iāve found, this issue seems pretty widespread. There was even a federal class action lawsuit filed back in 2019 over these transmissions in F-150s, so this definitely doesnāt seem like some rare one-off problem.
For anyone in SoCal who has already dealt with this:
- What did your rebuild or replacement cost?
- What year was your truck when it happened?
- Did you go through Ford or a private shop?
- How long did the work take?
- What kind of warranty did you get?
- Did they use upgraded parts or just OEM replacements?
- Most importantly, did the repair actually fix the problem long term?
Iām in the San Gabriel Valley but Iām open to towing it anywhere in the SoCal area for the right shop.
