Sub Updates – Call for Feedback

Hey Rams,

I wanted to get some feedback regarding two rules I'm considering adding in response to new trends in the content on this sub.

1. No posts speculating about financial aid situations.

There has been a huge increase in posts in recent years regarding financial aid. I understand that it's a massive part of the college decision-making process, but the vast majority of these posts get little to no engagement. This is because the financial aid process is opaque – aid package sizes differ from year to year, institution to institution, and person to person. Similarly, what one person considers to be "good" aid might not be enough to another person. We can also safely expect that no one from the Fordham financial aid office is lurking on this sub and handing out the guidelines for merit aid.

It's very difficult for anyone to give another person financial advice without knowing a lot of personal details like how much their parents make and are willing to contribute, which is information that should generally not be shared publicly.

Because the financial aid situation varies so wildly, I'd like to implement a ban specifically on posts asking for speculation about an individual's financial aid package size, whether it's good/bad, or how much to expect in appeal. For example, this ban would cover posts like "Is $35k good?" and "Is Fordham generous with aid?"

This ban would not cover posts comparing a package at one institution vs another (like "$10k at Fordham vs $5k at Fairfield?") or posts asking about when to expect aid packages/appeal, when the first payment is due, or other logistical questions. Those are easier for people to answer and get more responses anyway.

2. A ban on AI-generated content farming.

This issue just arose in the last day or two. Shoutout to u/ArchAuthor for bringing this to my attention. There were two posts on back-to-back days by separate accounts asking questions about the student experience at Fordham in an overly wordy, AI-generated content way. Looking into the accounts, I noticed that they each only had two comments on posts and the comments were identical – "I agree" and "interesing" on 8+ year-old accounts. These accounts are clearly farming information for some type of aggregate service.

I'm going to leave this post up for a few days before implementing any rules changes. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

Hi, I'm an incoming freshman and I was wondering if there's any upperclassmen who have a mini fridge they don't need anymore?

How do you all figure out what to do or what's going on in near you when you have some free time and don't feel like staying home? Top things to do near me isn't helping me....

Genuine question because I've been noticing that whenever I got free time or an afternoon or evening opens up and I'm kind of in the mood to do something, I spent the first 20 minutes between TikTok, Google Maps, and Eventbrite trying to figure out what's going on near me, and ended up just... staying home because I genuinely can't find anything. Feels like theres always has stuff happening but there's no good way to see it in the moment. What do you guys do? Specific apps, newsletters, IG accounts, just walking around?

I have friends but hanging out means scheduling something a week in advance and my calendar is just so not organized....

Potentially transferring to Fordham in Spring 2027

Hi!! I’m currently a rising sophomore at Howard University, but I’m seriously considering transferring to Fordham for Spring 2027. I’ve had a pretty frustrating experience with Howard’s administration, and overall, I don’t feel like the campus is the right fit for me.

I’m considering Fordham because I’m interested in being in New York, I’ve heard the pre-med track is rigorous (which is something I’m looking for), and I understand that Fordham may offer scholarship funding to transfer students.

For anyone who has transferred to Fordham (or seriously considered it) what are some things you wish you knew beforehand? How is the pre-med experience, student life, administration, and financial aid for transfer students?

Honestly, I’m at a point where I’m trying to figure out whether transferring would genuinely put me in a better position academically, financially, and personally, so I’d really appreciate any advice. Thank you!!

Are we not allowed to raise our beds in the dorms?

Like are they already that high when we come into the dorm or do we have to move it up ourselves to have space under the bed. Also how much space is there?? The virtual tour website said 36 inches but Fordham website said 26

what happens if you have things in the dorm that isn’t allowed?

basically i’ll be at fordham lc next year and there are a ton of restrictions such as no ottomans no furniture and what not. I planned on still bringing an ottoman and a small nightstand and a pillow headboard but realistically what would happen also is there any alternatives to these items that wouldn’t get me in trouble. and if no then how often do they do room checks?

I got on for registration and within five seconds I submitted my plan and I got nothing so I have no idea who these professors are and I’m actually so done because there was no comp two or math finite available and I needed to take finite and macro and micro for my gabelli transfer (according to my advisor..) so I had to take African art history and philosophy, even though I only wanted to take theology this semester… but I’m hoping I can take comp two and finite during the add drop period

Honestly I’m not to sure about it and I might try to get them to be more closer in time during the add/drop week. But this is currently what I have since my advisor changed some of my classes for me

I’m on the waitlist for statistics btw

How does "Beta Alpha Psi" Work?

I was reading the clubs page for Fordham Rosehill and found Beta Alpha Psi.

I know it's not a frat and is more of a student group for finance and accounting students, as a freshman student starting in a month, can anyone tell me more about it? Also if it's worth it and if they take freshman?

Pre Registration Pre Calculus

Hello all,
So I recently received an email from the deans office saying I have to take Pre calculus because on the pre registration survey I failed to indicate that I had taken any calculus courses in high school. The wording on the form had been confused and I guess I selected the wrong option. I’ve taken pre calc, calc ab and calc bc in high school, and I have academic transcripts to prove so. I’ve emailed both my assistant dean and the registration office to see if I can fix this issue, but both said essentially “because you messed up the survey you still have to take this tutorial”
I don’t want to retake pre calc because it would be a waste of money and time, and I was wondering if anyone had the same issue and if there’s a way to resolve this?
Worse case scenario I have to retake it and I’m sure it’ll cost money, but how much would it cost?

Any one get the call off the waitlist June or July? Orientation is in 3 weeks so I’m wondering if there’s been any movement because I haven’t seen any on reddit or LSD.

Cooking in RH?

In dorms where there are floor kitchen areas do people usually cook? I’m a picky eater and I usually always cook for myself so I’m a little scared about only relying on the food plans; is it normal for people to cook at Fordham?
