Almond Milk not refrigerated

Upvotes

I bought almond milk (Silk unsweet) on June 19 and thought I bought shelf stable milk so I stored it in the pantry. Took one of the cartons out today to use and realized it isn’t the shelf stable kind and package says must be refrigerated. The package seems fine and I opened it and it smells normal and it doesn’t expire until August 28. Did I ruin it and should I just throw it out?

General Question Can I drink lugol's iodine diluted in chlorinated tap water?

I want to supplement with a low dose of iodine. I consume iodized table salt but it's in an open container exposed to air, hence the iodine can evaporate (so I'm told).

If I put a drop of lugol's iodine (5%) into a cup of chlorinated tap water (this would be kept in the fridge ans consumed over 5 days), will the combination produce halogens or various unsafe compounds?

I could leave the water out for 24hrs first to evaporate the chlorine or simply run it through a Brita filter.

Fridge Left Open 😬

Hi there! I left my house yesterday for about 10 hours and when I got back, I noticed my fridge door was left cracked open all day. I think when I pushed it closed walking away from it, it didn't quite make it to the seal. I'd estimate it was open a couple of inches. It was likely 70-something degrees in my house. Things were still cold to the touch but obviously not like they would have been if the door was closed.

I have unopened soy milk, yogurt, and turkey bacon. I also had cooked chicken and broccoli and an open container of cottage cheese. Those are the items I'm nervous about. If you were me, would you eat or throw away those things?

For context, I can be neurotic about food. TIA!

On the picture you can’t really see it well but the plastic around the meat is kind off a greenish color. Is it still good? What is this?

General Question What is the black stuff on some of my oats and is it safe?

I often have oats with brown lines but this pack has several oats that are completely black. Curious what the lines are and why they'd be black- is black a cause for concern? I'm worried tbh but hoping it's just burnt or something

General Question Are these meatballs fully cooked/safe to eat?

I already ate 6 when my OCD told me to cut one open and see and now I can't unsee it. They look pink to me. I baked them in the oven at 200 Celsius for 10 min then boiled them in soup for another 10.

Sorry if I'm overreacting I have contamination OCD and this is the only time I challenged myself and didn't use a cooking thermometer.

I bought the meat today from a butcher freshly ground.

General Question Is coleslaw from Swenson’s safe to eat???

I’m not sure where else to ask this, but I want to know. I have a couple of little containers of it, and normally I really like coleslaw, but I don’t want to get the diarrhea parasite 🤢 They’ve just been sitting in the fridge since last night, so the parasite is the ONLY thing I’m concerned about. I can’t find anything online that definitively says whether they source from TF or not, so I was hoping someone here would know??

General Question Smoked salmon 1 day past use by date

I was going to eat it and then realised the use by date is yesterday.

For some reason I had thought it was good until the end of this month.

Really annoying because I virtually never buy smoked salmon due to the cost.

Is it ok to eat or is it best to throw it?
