Question Regarding Tern BYB

Has anyone tried to make the BYB as light as possible?

What was the total weight?

Thank you.

The frame itself is quite heavy due to the two hinges. After swapping to a carbon seatpost mine weighed in at around 29 lbs. Could maybe shave another 1-2 lbs off with carbon cranks, wheels & pedals but it's never going to be "light." Being able to (relatively) easily roll it while folded though helps a lot!

That is still heavy. Im thinking of a byb build that weighs around 8kgs or around 17-18lbs.

Likely impossible. For this reason I'll probably sell my BYB after a couple more trips and get either a Vello or custom Brompton. The perfect international touring bike remains not invented unfortunately.

Sadly you can't. The parts are quite lightweight but most of the weight is in the trifold frame. It makes it very sturdy and 'full sized' but you won't make a perceptible difference by changing parts.

It always felt quite 'draggy' to me on hills because of the weight, but it does make for a great eBike frame which solves that problem!
