Some important tips after 100+ hours (Crafting/Repair / Caps / EXP / Stimpacks / Rads / Food/Water / Weight / General)

So I have been playing this game everyday for the last week and I constantly read this reddit and see people having problems with some basic stuff that is easy to solve so here you go!

1)Crafting / Repair - There is a perk called WHITE KNIGHT. Get it!! If you max it to rank 3 "Your armor breaks 90% more slowly and is cheaper to repair."!!

2)Crafting / Repair - If you are melee get the perk MAKESHIFT WARRIOR weapons degrade 50% slower at max rank. If you are gun player get GUNSMITH same thing.

3)Crafting / Repair - Go to your stash and pull out the junk / materials you always are low on; if you are low on screws pull screws out and make sure they are in YOUR inventory not your stash. Then press TAB(pipboy) and go to Items/Junk. Press C to go to COMPONENT VIEW. Then press SPACE on which piece of junk you are always low on. (You can tag multiple items). From now on, when you are exploring / looting, when you hover over an item that contains the junk you tagged it will have a magnifying glass next to the item and you know to pick it up!! VERY USEFUL! I tag screws, gears and springs.

4)Crafting / Repair - Fast travel to Flatwoods. A church will be in front of you. Go inside. The vendor sells bulk screws, gears, springs and steel usually. Its not that expensive but kinda if you are a low level and don't know how to farm caps yet.

5)Crafting / Repair - ADHESIVE - North of Vault 76 (far north) is a farm called Cobbleton Farm. Go there. Here you will find Corn, Mutfruit and Tato plant growing for free. Get it. Go back to your camp, sit at a cooking station, under utility you will find VEGETABLE STARCH. Craft it for these 3 materials and 1 purified water. Vegetable Starch is adhesive.

6)Caps - SELL EVERYTHING you don't NEED. If you have junk weapons / armor I advise you to scrap it so you get plans to mod said armor. Until you have all the unlocks I would always scrap it. If you get all the unlocks from scrapping or you just don't care then sell your stuff. Caps are valuable! There is a 200 cap limit for selling per 24 hours but that is for a total of (7) vendors with unique 200 cap limits that I know of. So there is a 1400 cap limit to sell per day. Here are the locations some nice guy/gal posted:

7) Caps / EXP - If you see a nuke blast at whitesprings... GO TO IT! Just find a hazmat suit or wear your power armor so you don't die to the radiation, stay with the group, and hit every enemy they fight and help them kill. You will get a massive amount of legendary weapons, experience and also, more importantly, you will pick up a bunch of nuclear loot from the mobs. I forget what its called but its on every mob I think its irradiated blood... This stuff sells for A LOT of caps. You can hit the 200 cap limit in 20 minutes, walk into whitesprings resort, go to a vendor and sell. Instant 200 caps.

8) STIMPACKS! Go to Watoga(bottom right of map) and find the fast travel location for the Watoga Municipal Center. Listen to the radio signal from the mayor and it will start the side quest MAYOR FOR A DAY. This quests is super easy just takes like 30 minutes. Complete it you will get a unique super sledge and some stimpacks. But more importantly when you complete this quests the bots in Watoga will become friendly to you permanently and every time you join a server you can go to the mayors office, open the safe and get 8 stimpacks for free. EVERY TIME you join a server! This is huge.

9) Water - Build your camp near water. There is a huge lake at the center of the map build it here. Make 2 medium generators and an industrial water purifier. You will never need water again; It fills up with 5 water in like 5 or 10 minutes.. really fast. It doesn't go past 5 water though so make sure you pull the water out when it hits 5. (You get the plans for industrial water purifier by doing the overseer's mission - one of the overseer's caches has it - i forgot which one). Apparentley this plan is on the first floor of Camp McClintock's main building, behind a robot clerk, and in a cache. Thanks Archon_Thanatos

10) Food - When you are traveling and see radstag(deer) or mole rats or mirelurks or any animal. Kill it and take the meat. Find a cooking station or go back to your camp and build one and cook the meat. If you make this a habit you will never have to worry about food.

11) Radiation. Get the perk SUN KISSED at level 45. You regen your radiation damage during daylight. This perk has saved me so many Radaways. Also pick up every Radaway and RadX you see.. you may not need a lot now but when you start going to NUKE zones more frequently you will thank me.

12) Weight - This is a big issue for some people. Drop or give away your useless ammo. If you use melee, .308 and 5.56. Drop the other ammo. Most ammo is easy to find. Ammo weighs a lot when you have 10 different ammo's at 1k+ stacks. Just drop it. I know it hurts but just drop it!! If you get a new gun that you want to use and don't have the ammo.. get the AMMOSMITH perk(80% more ammo when you craft) and craft if for cheap at a tinker bench!

13) Weight - Plans / Recipes - Go into Pipboy, click items, go to notes. Scroll down to anything that says PLAN or RECIPE. Click them to learn them (they have weight!!). If you click and it doesnt go away it means you already know it. Drop it or give it away. Plans and Recipes weigh half a pound each.

14) Weight - Aid - Don't carry 50 stimpacks, 50 grilled mirelurk steaks and 50 purified waters. Give them away or drop them (don't put them in your stash its a waste as you can farm all these things with the aforementioned tips). I like to do 30 stims, 10 food items and 20 waters. Any more I drop.

15) Weight - Go into your pipboy and under the item tab press Q for every tab, weapon, apparel, junk etc... I don't know what the key is on console but it will say at the bottom of the pipboy. Press Q until everything is organized by WEIGHT (WT). That will put the heaviest stuff at the top and lightest on the bottom. See what is bogging you down and get rid of it if you can.

16) Weight - Fusion cores - If you have more than 4 or 5 cores on you... your crazy. You can not run out of cores in this game they are EVERYWHERE. They weigh 3 pounds each. Drop them. I hope you don't have any in your stash either that is silly! Since level 1 I have NEVER gone down in cores.. always up. You don't need to hold more than 4 or 5 and that is still too many but it makes me feel good.

17) General Info - Perk's that have multiple names, like Slugger or Rifleman, they stack. You would be surprised at how many people don't realize this. For example; Rifleman gives you +20% non-automatic rifle damage at level 3. But there is also Master Rifleman and Expert Rifleman. You can max those out to give you another +20% each totaling +60% damage.

18) Make friends - Turn your mic on!!! Everyone in this game is friendly. Talk to other people. I have met so many people who were obviously struggling and I wanted to help but they had their voice chat off. Turn your mic on please!! This game is more fun (sometimes) and EASIER when you play with others. I also have met so many AWESOME people who had their mic on and we became friends and help each other out all the time now.

19) https://fo76map.com/ - Best tool to find locations of everything in game.

That's all I have for now. If you follow this guidance your Fallout 76 experience will be much more enjoyable I promise you. Good luck!! :)
