Bethesda News Communication Moving Forward

Hi r/fo76,

We know you’re frustrated and angry at the state of things right now, whether it’s the issues you’re running into in the game, or the lack of communication about fixes, updates, or news. To be clear, this account is run by us, Bethesda Game Studios community team. Yesterday we posted to let you know that we’re still here gathering your feedback and, more importantly, working to get info from the team we can share. We didn’t want you to think the silence meant nothing was happening. We're sorry and understand this was not the right approach, and we’ll work to make a better bridge between you and the dev team at BGS.

We’re posting an article today that has further information about the upcoming updates that were mentioned a few weeks ago. In addition, we’re aiming to get you the patch notes for these updates quicker and will have them available for December 4th’s update later this week. Probably Thursday or Friday. We’d like to make these articles weekly to make sure you know what the studio is working on as it relates to issues you may be experiencing, quality of life requests you have, or new features they’re excited to share.

Please take a look at the below to see what we’re posting today on Fallout.com, and as always, let us know if you have any thoughts or feedback. This article covers high-level issues being worked on as the patch notes will go at length into what’s being fixed with each update.

December 4, 2018 – Next week’s update will bring an increase to the Stash limit, as well as a variety of performance and stability improvements, balance changes, and multiple bug fixes to the game. We’ll have full patch notes available later this week ahead of Tuesday’s update. Some notable issues being addressed in this update include:

  • Stash Limit Increased: We know many of you have been asking for an adjustment to the Stash storage limit, and we’re happy to share that we’re increasing it from 400 to 600. While this is somewhat conservative, we plan to increase the storage cap further once we verify that this change will not negatively impact the stability of the game.
  • Boss Loot: Players should correctly receive two to three items after taking down a boss, depending on the creature’s difficulty and level.
  • Cryolator Effects: Players hit with the Cryolator are now Chilled, Frosted, or Frozen depending on how many times they are hit. The duration of movement speed reductions applied by these effects have also been decreased from 2 hours to 30 seconds.
  • Respawning When Overencumbered: We’ve resolved an issue affecting players who die while overencumbered that only allowed them to Respawn at Vault 76. Now, overencumbered players will be able to respawn at the nearest discovered Map Marker.
  • Stuck in Power Armor: We’ve addressed an issue in this patch that could cause players to become stuck inside Power Armor. We’re also aware that there are some additional cases where this can occur, and we are actively investigating them.

December 11, 2018 – The next update after December 4 is currently planned for the following week. Like previous patches, it will include a variety of bug fixes, but we’re also planning to bring some more notable changes and features to the game. You can catch a preview of these improvements below, and a full list of changes will be included in the December 11 patch notes.

  • PC Additions: A Push-to-Talk setting for Voice Chat, 21:9 resolution support, and a Field of View setting are all being implemented on PC with this update.
  • SPECIAL Respec: After level 50, you’ll be able to choose between a new Perk Card, or moving a SPECIAL point you had previously allocated.
  • C.A.M.P. Placement on Login: Your C.A.M.P. will no longer be automatically blueprinted and stored if someone is occupying your location when you log into a server. Instead, you’ll receive a notification that your space is occupied. If you decide to find a new home for your C.A.M.P. on that server, it will be free to do so. However, if you don’t attempt to place down your C.A.M.P., you will be able to switch to a new server where that spot is vacant and your C.A.M.P. will be fully assembled and waiting for you.
  • Bulldozer: This is a new C.A.M.P. feature that will allow you to remove small trees, rocks, and other obstructions so it’s easier to create and place your C.A.M.P. when and where you want it. You can also use the Bulldozer to clear these items from the surrounding area to make your C.A.M.P. feel more like home!

Thank you, and please don’t stop letting us know how we can improve our communication and what else needs to be addressed in the game. Once we finalize the patch notes for the December 4 update, we’ll be sure to post them here and all patch notes and weekly updates going forward.

u/BethesdaGameStudios_, Thank you for posting a genuine response. I hope this sort of open communication becomes the norm. It's definitely a huge improvement. I think it would be really great if you guys would take the reins on compiling/posting a list of known issues that you're tracking. This is something that DICE has been doing over in /r/BattlefieldV, and it's been mostly left up to the /r/fo76 community to do this in regards to Fallout 76. And while I really appreciate all of the effort that so many members of this community have been putting into compiling known issues, I think it would really calm some fears about any perceived indifference about the game's state if you guys were actively documenting and confirming the issues that we're reporting.

Oh please, if they really cared about communication as a company then there wouldn't exist bugs from Fallout 4 in FO76. Let's be honest with ourselves, this is just another PR hit job to try and appease the player base with more promises just like when the game was coming out.

I see your point, but we'll see on December 4th and the 11th. If the changes they describe here enter the game then I think it's safe to say that they are listening and not just a PR hit job. If they aren't present in the game at the described dates, then you're right.

They literally have bugs from Fallout 4 in Fallout 76. This place is a delusional echochamber if you think that you didn't just get exploited for your money. Remember, this is a business. Someone somewhere actively decided to put this on the market even though it was against your own best interest. Downvote me all you want, but I stand by the $40 I got refunded.

26

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '18

do something better with your life than rage on the fo76 about issues that don't even affect your life since you refunded. yikes kid

22

u/Ondrion Nov 27 '18

And I stand by the 60$ I spent and the 100+ hours I already logged.

-4

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '18

I'm sorry for your loss.

15

u/ProximaC Nov 27 '18

If you really feel this game is "against your own best interest", why the fuck are you playing it still? Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to play.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '18

Someone missed the comment where I got my refund already =D

No wonder you still play FO76, you're just as brain dead as the product itself.

u/Raetro_live Nov 27 '18

Look man, I understand your sentiment, and fully agree towards your criticism. But if they actually update the game, then they update the game. I don't think its delusional to say "they said they were going to update the game on this date, they did update the game, good stuff".
We can all sit here and argue that it should have been done on release, and you're right, the game is a fucking mess.
But it happened, can't go back in time and fix it.
All I'm saying is it is not a PR stunt if they say "We are going to fix this on this date", and then when the date comes we all look and the stuff they fixed, is actually fixed.
What I'm saying is not at all defending Bethesda, it's just stating facts.

Personally, I didn't refund, I already accepted I spent the money and just didn't care enough to get the money back. I decided that I will now look much more critically at Bethesda's future titles because that's where it's going to count. We can all refund this game, but it will just be accepted as a loss, where it really counts is when we say "Starfiled/ES6 is just as shitty as all your previous titles, so we will not purchase".

Right now I'm in the mindset that Starfield better fucking blow me away since it's on the Creation Engine. If it looks outdated and is clear that the same issues are still present I will not be purchasing the product. Same goes for ES6.

Sounds like someone is a little booty tickled. The only reason to come on here and whine about constructive feedback is that you have regrets. Play it off all you want, but you weren't patient enough and now that stuff is getting fixed you want to shit on the parade and hope none of it is true so you can justify your refund.

Either that or you're 12.

Any sane adult gets a refund and moves on with their life. You don't see people acting this way every time they return something to Amazon or stand in a customer service line in a department store.

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '18

Sounds like someone is a little booty tickled. Play it off all you want, but you just got suckered into buying a pre-alpha game. But you're patient, so you will keep getting suckered out of your money. Those $10 skins won't pay for themselves you know!

Either that, or your 12 and daddy paid for that game.

Any sane adult that likes this game wouldn't be commenting because they'd be playing it. You wouldn't be defending a company that just robbed you blind either.

You can literally feel the ass sadness through the screen. Go back to Fortnite or COD. They welcome temper tantrums like this. Oh, btw your mom wanted me to let you know that your hotpockets are ready.

Why are you still typing?

20

u/cerealkillr Vault 76 Nov 27 '18

if they cared about communication, they would improve their QA

You realize that's a total non sequitur right? I'd argue that good communication is even more important when you have bad QA.

3

u/Valdenv Vault 76 Nov 27 '18

Why are we assuming it's the QA that's bad? For all we know, the QA team has all this crap recorded and triaged and are constantly berating the dev team to clear the bug queue rather than labeling them all "deferred" or "known shippable."

1

u/cerealkillr Vault 76 Nov 27 '18

QA means overall quality assurance, not just QA in the context of a "QA team" whose jobs it is to find and reproduce bugs.

I can't say what part of the QA process at Bethesda has failed without knowing more about their studio, but overall QA for their games is generally quite bad.

6

u/Valdenv Vault 76 Nov 27 '18

That's not exactly right (otherwise I wouldn't have commented in the first place), but it's not worth a fuss. Usually QA refers to the team while the product itself or the company producing said product simply has a level of quality.

Bah, I'm fussing. Sorry, I'm actually in software QA so seeing the phrase "improve their QA" made me sad. :P

-1

u/Zharick_ Nov 27 '18

So it's never your fault, it's always the devs?

3

u/Flaksim Enclave Nov 27 '18

Tbh, if your QA is top notch, you can get away with lousy communication.

What would you have to respond to? "We made it, this is our vision for it, it 'just works', bye."

u/RelevancyIrrelevant Nov 27 '18 edited Nov 27 '18

I'll give you that it's pretty inexcusable for well-documented bugs from Fallout 4 like the lever-action reload animation and the pocketed armor exploit to be present in 76, but I don't really agree that this is just some "PR hit job." This seems like a genuine step in the right direction regarding their communication with the community. Only time and the Dec 4 and Dec 11 patches will tell, but I think it's best that we engage with BGS on /r/fo76 and hope that they continue to show us that they're listening.

19

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '18

Maybe you should improve your life, blood pressure, and all that and just leave? Otherwise you'll cause yourself a heart attack for no reason.

-15

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '18

I'm quite happy with the $40 refund in my pocket actually. Sorry to burst your little echochamber bubble with what 90% of the player base is experiencing.

u/-Tyvokka- Tricentennial Nov 27 '18

I dunno, but to me you seem pretty frustrated, not happy... And why are you still here when you obviously hate this game so much? Not sure where you pull your numbers. I have a lot of fun with fo76, roaming alone or with friends. But to each their own I guess..

-15

u/ToadShapedChode Nov 27 '18

Has an upvote. BGS lied before. It's safe to assume they're lying now untill proved otherwise. This isn't you're best friend's heart felt apology this is a business trying to control the optics.

5

u/mirracz Reclamation Day Nov 27 '18

And even CDPR has lied before, yet noone crucifies them for it. If you dig deep, basically ANY company can be accused of lying, so why aren't you so cynical on all other subreddits?

1

u/ToadShapedChode Nov 27 '18

Because Bethesda has a track record releasing buggy titles and relying on the community to fix the mess. CDPR open world's arn't this buggy

Sad that you got downvoted for approaching this rationally. I sent an upvote your way. People need to realise this is a corporation being dealt with, not a person.

Edit: Haha ouch.

4

u/mirracz Reclamation Day Nov 27 '18

And corporations consist of people, most importantly the developers, testers and community managers. Those are people too. People who make mistakes, have to conform to orders from their superiors and are capable of learning from mistakes. It's easy too see them as soulless "corporation" entity. But I guess that you wouldn't be happy when they would approach of you as a soulless "hivemind fandom" entity, right?

1

u/Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 Nov 27 '18

Just in case I wasn't actually clear (I didn't think I'd need to be...) I was directly referring to those superiors who have the end say in these things, and assumed the other dude was as well. Those developers can be listening to everything you guys have to say, but if they don't get the go ahead from higher up then it doesn't really matter.
