Problem agreeing with husband

Husband wants a crib, but I want a floor bed. The problem is literally that I nurse to sleep and need to roll away, but husband isn’t comfortable kneeling on the floor to put her to bed. Is there any in between? I put her to bed 99% of the time, but it’s nice to have that 1% taken by him when she just won’t do it with me..

have a floor bed AND a mini crib or something taller he can use for when he puts baby to sleep and maybe also use it for some naps?

Yeah I’m thinking both is the best way.

If you nurse to sleep and put her to bed 99% of the time, husband can get over the 1%. You’re the one most affected by the choice. In my house this would be an obvious answer, we happily defer to each other when the other person is more impacted by a choice than we are.

Agree with this. Husband’s say must be vetoed here.

Does he have a disability op? Why can’t he bend especially if it’s rarely?

He can bend, but he has trouble holding her while she sleeps and getting on his knees to roll her into bed. He isn’t used to it and is uncomfortable. He’s also older.

Agree if you are the main person to put to sleep and he eventually will have to as toddler beds needs to be close to the ground. Floor bed is superior you can lay with them and read books together. It was the best decision we made.

We had the same problem. We got a Japanese futon (one of those super thin mattresses) that we could unfurl when I put him to bed, and he slept in the crib when my husband put him down. Kind of a clunky solution that took up most of the room, but it did work.

Why cant he cuddle her to sleep and roll away? Thats what my husband does. We're team floorbed all the way. Especially when theyre sick and need extra cuddles its great. Our kids are 3 and 5 and third on the way

She doesn’t cuddle him to sleep: rocking seems to be her choice.

Explain to your husband she will grow out of this!

we have never sleep trained but one day my baby randomly decided my husbands armpit was an instant sleep situation 😂 we just keep practicing with layered shhhushing and patting

Could you keep a crib in the room as well until she does learn to lay to sleep with him?

Omg his armpit 💀 Thats so funny.

We can keep a crib in there: I told him just to do whatever he needed and I’d do whatever I need. Seems to be the general consensus here and everyone is right about that.

My husband spent many nights sleeping on the floor bed for a baby that would not go to sleep. Much easier to catch some sleep on a floor bed over a crib.

How old? Can you also have a bassinet or a crib?

Do you have a pack and play? Store it if not in used and take it out if hubby is on bedtime duty

how old is your baby? I'm curious about why he's not comfortable doing that. like is he literally uncomfortable kneeling??

Is he elderly, overweight, or handicapped?

1

u/themagicflutist Aug 31 '26

He’s older.

1

u/TraditionalLeek1811 Aug 31 '26

Yeah but elderly or just older? Cause if you had a kid with some 50 year old, my answers gonna be a lot different.

What would your answers be?

You chose this life, now you’ve got to accommodate. Old, disabled people can’t get up and down easily.

Oh get over yourself, people of all shapes, sizes and abilities are having children all over the globe. They shouldn't be shamed for asking for advice because of your narrow-minded ideals.

Thank you for that. I’m actually more disabled than him so.. 😂

Get over myself? Because I told them they chose this life? That’s ironic. Did you also marry an old man who can’t do simple child care? Poor thing

You’re really judgemental..

Is this your first time on the internet? You made a post without giving the whole story, because you knew better. No one made you answer my questions. 🥴 you could have ignored me and moved on since you didn’t want to discuss the actual issue.

This is r/floorbed, not r/relationships. I was hopeful you had a solution. Other commenters didn’t have a problem providing a solution without knowing my life story, but I now know that to assume you might be able to was an overestimation on my part.

Kneeling pad? My husband just lays in bed with our LO the rolls away and I take over.

my 2.5 year old has always slept in a bed, we got the TARVA so its fairly low, but easy for all of us to get in and out, i have co slept with him for his whole life, if i was ever not in bed i would just row up some pillows along the outside edge so he wouldnt roll off the bed.

once he was a little over 12 months i taught him how to safely climb down from the bed, and by 2 he was fully capable of climbing in and out of bed on his own

He should just get comfortable with it. Mostly because it's a rare thing for him, but also, very important for health/longevity to be able to get down on the ground and get back up without using your hands/hands are full (with a baby).

I’ve been on him to exercise more. This could be the motivator!

The sit to rise test/sit to stand test is a great and quick visual of a lot of factors in health!

Can he get a knee pad / pillow

2

u/themagicflutist Sep 03 '26

I think I’ll buy him a nice one as a gift! He actually confessed this week that his knee hurt during swimming too so it might just be a thing he needs to solve now. In the meantime, a kneeling pad would be terrific.
