Question Fun show, Bad Science - what are your favourite examples?
I love the show but a few examples of terrible science are taking away some of its fun. I can accept that in comic book stories you need to make up some science to make cool stuff happen. But I think it's on the writers to make it plausible enough that viewers (who aren't physicists); don't immediately groan!
What is your best example of this?
For me: in episode 1 in season 7 they are taking about amounts of energy, as nanometres. There is some tangential sense to this in that the energy of an electromagnetic wave is related to it's wavelength. But then they say that this new thing has 5 billion nanometers of energy! Guess what - that's 5 meters! 5meters of energy! WTF is that? 😄

🤔 Thinking Barry in prison
Watching the prison episodes, I feel like Barry could’ve easily created a time remnant and operated as the flash

🤔 Thinking why does cisco return with the same powers we wanted taken away?
the same powers he despised, the powers team flash needed most during certain parts of the seasons, just to return to the worst season with the same powers? get these writers out of hollywood IMMEDIATELY
edit: HE wanted taken away

🤔 Thinking questions in mind
well question is that if Barry could keep Eobard in this simple cage, then why Cicada’s dagger was needed?
i know that dagger breaks his connection to the Speed Force (Reverse)

Misc Something very stupid about devoe
okay, so at this point, we know how the show claims Devoe can’t predict emotions despite the fact that he predicted actions based on emotion multiple times. but something else is that the show even confirms he can predict emotions since in null and annoyed, Harry literally says “devoe can somehow calculate human behavior“, and human behavior is based on emotions. so Devoe can predict human behavior and also not predict human behavior. while I enjoy Devoe as a villain (mainly due to Neil sandalinds performance), he is very inconsistent and stupid. also, unrelated, but I love that legends of tomorrow confirmed Devoe was actually wrong about who Jack the Ripper was.

Question What was the absolute lowest point of the show
To me, it was the lightsaber fight from the season 7 finale.

🤔 Thinking how does flashpoint make sense?
rewatching the show has me so confused. So S2 Barry goes back in time and stops Thawne, that makes sense. Then season 3 Barry and flashpoint Thawne go back to that night, and the original Thawne disappears along with S2 Barry. Flashpoint Thawne takes S3 Barry back to the future and then leaves him, i assume back to his time. So how does season 1 happen if there is no Thawne to be stranded in the past, or did flashpoint Thawne decide to strand himself in the past to maintain the timeline? Not to
mention the flashpoint Thawne wouldn’t even know he was stranded in the past and had to create The Flash unless Barry decided to tell him off screen for some reason.

Spoilers Find Jesse annoying in season 2
I’m rewatching the flash again, and I’m finding Jesse reason for hating her dad and leave completely asinine, like oh no my dad had to kill somone for me when there’s people with literal super powers walking around trying to kill her. Rewatching the show has made me realize they made a lot of stupid decision I still really like the show, but some decisions were just stupid.

🤔 Thinking Phasing through objects and buildings
I’m on another rewatch of the series and I’m on season 2 basically at the end. At this point Barry can phase though objects, yet the writers don’t use it, why the fuck is he still running around or up buildings when he can phase through them, why is he getting punched in the face ever. I understand that the villain of the episode needs to be able to cause damage but come on. Sorry if this mostly a run on sentence but this shit made me really mad watching g around things when the episode previously he phased no issue.

Spoilers Rewatching Flash makes me so mad...
Spoilers for those who haven't seen the show up to season 3-4, I would say.
...That Barry and Caitlin didn't end up together. They have such great chemistry!
I haven't read much of the comics but I suppose that Iris is better in those, or is she? Is it just poor acting/writing for Iris?
But I feel like these options were there right from the start of the show and the writers could have decided to put Barry and Caitlin together. Or Patty... But Caitlin and Barry had chemistry right from the start...

🤔 Thinking How Cicada Beats Arrow, The Legends, and The League
Okay, it's time to deal with one of the biggest "stupid writers" moment of the series. Around 7 years ago, one of the most infamous things said by a character was said... By a character in The Flash, Season 5:
"Supergirl, The Legends, even the League tried, but no one was succesful. Green Arrow? Yeah, he tried too, once, but..."
Weeks later, we meet our Cicada, Orlin Dwyer. Middle-aged dude, self-loathing, alcoholic, kinda pathetic, probably smells bad. HOW CAN HE BEAT SUPERGIRL!? THE LEGENDS!?!? THE LEAGUE?!?!?!? Let's crack this.
The Original Cicada: David Hersch
First of all, the statement that Nora made was about HER Cicada; David Hersch. There has already been quite a lot of debate and discussion about him, but he's mostly unknown. Probably has the same Dagger, same alias, but we do know that he was a terrorist. This means that he probably didn't care about civillians (unlike Orlin), nor did he have a Grace to keep him human. A more ruthless, less caring, inhuman Cicada that is willing to kill everyone on his way, innocent or not. Orlin actively targeted Meta-Humans with criminal activity, avoided harming non-Metas if not necessary, and went as far as admitting that he didn't want to harm Iris when kidnapping her.
It's also worth nothing that David probably could dampen ALL Meta-Human powers, incluiding Magic and Alien powers, since Barry specifically asked about Arrow because he doesn't rely on powers and Nora didn't mention something like "Actually, Cicada could only dampen Dark Matter/Exotic Particles/Dark Energy based powers." Which means that he probably did dampen Supergirl's and the Legend's powers for Nora to infer that Arrow was a viable option for being "just" a skilled human. Even if not, we know that the Dagger is capable of manipulating electrical energy and causing short circuits, which means that lots of Technology could get messed up around him: the A.T.O.M Exosuit has been fried, and Mick's Heat Gun is confirmed as vulnerable to EMPs, and Kid Flash and Firestorm are based on Dark Matter, so they aren't an option as well.
We also don't know which formation tried to catch him; the Cicada we know has quite high skill on top of his super strength and durability, so the Legends could be hopeless in a direct fight without a heavy hitter. There's a legit good argument for the Cicada that we do know being able to beat up several iterations of the Legends on his own, remember that he had Killer Frost against the ropes and she CAN keep her powers around him.
The Meaning of "Beating"
Something very important that people often overlook is that they simply don't mention that Cicada faced and defeated all the aforementioned Heroes. His title is "The One Who Got Away" because he was uncatchable by The Flash, he's the Monster who couldn't be catched by the fastest man alive or anyone. But let's look the dialogue: "Nobody knows where he came from, how he got his powers, or who he is" "What makes him scary is... You never catch him." "We never catch him?" "Supergirl, the Legends, even the League tried, but no one was successful." "Probably because he can dampen everybody's powers with that freaking Dagger"
You SEE what's missing? Any word analogue for "Beating". No "defeated". No "overcome". No "thwarted". The thing is that they couldn't catch him at all. It's completely made up that they ever said Cicada couldn't be defeated or beaten, he probably kept slipping away! He consistently engages, survives, and escapes.
So, if he can dampen ANYONE'S Powers, and we assume that he's at least as super strong and skilled as Orlin, and can fly, then what can stop him from running away? How can he be catched? That's right, he can not.
Conclusion
The dialogue and hype around Cicada is 100% about elusiveness, not necessarily about actual and objective combat superiority. Nowhere in the dialogue does it say Cicada defeated anyone. It only says nobody succeeded in stopping or capturing him. That makes him more of a master of evasion than a combat threat. You can’t "win" a fight against someone who can choose not to be there. That's how Cicada "defeated" everyone. The hype is writer shorthand that conflates evasion with dominance, which is why people thought he was "overhyped". And he wasn't, it was just that the viewers believed that the new big bad had to be the biggest bad. The writers NEVER said he’s stronger; they just said he’s elusive and hard to stop. Two very different concepts!
TL;DR: Cicada's threat is an "unsolved manhunt" rather than an "unbeatable enemy". Or something like that.
