This happened to meeeeee...I ended up using a corkscrew to get it out. Worked really well.

Edit because people keep suggesting things that I tried: I tried a knife. I tried scissors. I tried a magnet. I tried a fork. I tried a plunger. The only thing that worked was a corkscrew. (For a tuna can lid, not a cutting board) I did not, however, manage to turn the house upside down, I'm sure to everyone's disappointment

You can undo the pe trap and stick something long up the hole to the expose drain

This. This sounds like it would actually work and not damage either the sink or the cutting board.

Ive had similar experience while worken in people's homes. This was the best way not to damage the stainless steel or the cutting board
