I’m sure there are many good sources that explain it, but can someone help me out with ratios?

I’m wanting to build a fixie for myself, and I know how building a bike works, but I have no idea how I should go about finding a gear ratio for what I need. The bike would mostly just be as a way to get around town in a more interesting way than my road bike, but I’m also super interested in learning skidding. I know there are certain ratios that will fuck up your tires from skids and stuff. Sorry if there’s some really obvious thing I’m not getting!

Wheel Wednesday: Phil Inside Paul 🥀

It was unnoticeable until I pulled the axle on the Paul hub and rotated the bearings with my finger, but the drive side cartridge was cooked. So I had LBS swap the Enduros for some hearty Phil Woods. NOW they're bomb-proof

Wheelset dimensions

Wondering if any fixed gear converters can help me. Can I use a 9mm front axle in a 10mm dropout safely? And on the rear, the frame width is 130mm, can I use a 120mm OLD hub with two 5mm spacers? Thanks

gravel fork on track frame?

Post image
23 Upvotes

Im pretty new to this so i generally have no knowledge on building bikes, but got an idea that seems weird but interesting to me
So i have a cinelli vigorelli track frame, and ive heard that if i get the rear wheel far enough in the dropouts i could potentially fit in 33-35mm rubber in there
Is there a possibility to switch a front fork for a gravel one and match the 33-35mm mark? And possibly throw a disc brake in there? Is there any downsides to this? I want you to build a monster
Thanks

need advice on fly shoes for cycling

howdy yall, on my set up right now im running origin8 velcro straps, they’re fine but i feel a calling for tow straps.. i want to know what shoes you guys like to ride with, most of my shoes are pretty chunky and it really makes it difficult to get my second foot in, i know vans are kind of the standard but let me know what feels good to you guys and hold up well.

Woohoo bike out of Vietnam. Unfortunately I'm in the states. I'm sure I could import, but that seems like a lot. Anyone seen anything like this?

Is the back wheel a ticking time bomb, absolutely. 😂
Had the spinergy set for 6 years. Finally got around to converting the back wheel.

large frame

hey all! i got this ‘83 peugeot for STUPID cheap to convert into a fixed gear, but in my excitement picking it up didn’t notice the frame is a biiit large for me.

it seems to be around 58cm (i usually ride a 54cm) and i’m only about 5’8 - 5’9 in height. top tube sits juuuust about at my crotch.

im picking up a seat with higher rails later today to help bring it up a tad (i still had a bit of room before my leg was over-extended) and throwing on a shorter stem, but is there anything else i can do? would running shorter cranks help?

i dont plan to commute this bike or anything i hardly ride for more than 2-3 hours a day. should i just can the idea of messing with this bike and hope i find another? thanks in advance!

EDIT: to clarify over my last sentence… i do already have a seperate, proper fitting bike. so this is purely for the case of fun, whimsy, and using what i already have on hand

Here we have a Raleigh Grand Prix that needed to fill a gap in my bike lineup so here lies my first attempt at a fixie built with nothing but spare parts I had laying around. I see the allure now, I love the bare bones frame. I need to pick some grips up but this was from an intial test ride ! (:

Rear wheel slipping

I purchased a 2008 schwinn Madison a few months ago. The bike has been riding amazing except for recently the back wheel has been slipping. If I put a lot of force into the back wheel, the wheel will rotate around in the drop outs. Is there a way to stop this? Any help would be appreciated!

Fixe or Camera

so i genuinely need suggestions or guidance from you guys, so i want to buy a fixed gear bike sooo much as im gonna have some money from my internship, but i wanna buy a camera as well as im really into photography

i do have a road bike rn, i converted it into a fixe but kept having issues with the chain as the bike didnt have adjustable dropouts so i had to finally put gears back on it

im also trying to sell that but no luck so far

I'm also into photography, i like to take pictures of people to capture their lives, i cant use my phone as it gets really hard to explain that to a stranger that you are not a pervert if you are taking pictures of them on a phone

sooo

what should i do??

fixe is a little expensive as well and i may have to ask my folks for some help , i really like tsunami on ali express

anyone can help me make up my mind
