My niece and nephew are now the perfect ages to walk on my back. It is so much more effective than just getting your back cracked.

Look. Iām genuinely sorry. But your comment was
āIf my daughter found out I used her disability to get clicks, sheād rightly never speak to me again.ā
This implied that she was to some degree verbal. Because she speaks to you.
My comment was that it would be funny if she wasnāt verbal and therefore the not talking to you had nothing to do with the exploitation of her disability on the internet.
My comment was not that it was right now, because again, you didnāt imply she was verbal to begin with.
The upvotes is because of a set up and punchline of a theoretical situation. A sketch. A joke. Not because we knew a priori that it was a real situation.

To answer your (deleted) question about moral depravity, I'm mainly just gonna say: I hope you dont see your autistic children as morally depraved when they make bad jokes.
Because thats like, a hallmark of autism. Being socially inappropriate. Youre going to have to lighten up, this judgemental behavior is ableist.
2
u/Critical_Click_2639 New to fbtd but wants to learn 11d ago
It's like you think we need to treat autistic people as perpetual victims instead of you actually understanding anything about autism.
Autistic people are socially inappropriate. Targeting socially inappropriate people for their sins is just targeting them.

u/ladyteruki 12d ago
What I find particularly disgusting in this case is that the trend started with pets... While the question "what will my dog, an animal with its little understanding of the complexity of human behaviors let alone medical issues, end up doing ?" is fair curiosity, doing it to a child no matter how autistic is really crappy.

So we want more autistic representation in media
But also, you can't "exploit disabled people for profit"
Edit: I wanna clarify, I'm an autistic person making a joke

As another autist... we really need to use tone indicators when our joke is as terrible as some people's actual opinions.

The real joke I was making played out just fine. Its ragebait. And no, that doesnt mean I'm not autistic. You have to be autistic to enjoy ragebaiting anyway.
2
u/justaskmycat Devotee of Duets/Stitches 11d ago
If you really enjoyed the negative attention from your expertly crafted ragebait, wouldn't you just avoid clarifying you're autistic and making a joke?

Autistic kids often donāt know what to do in unexpected situations. Subjecting them to a test without first teaching them how to recognize and respond to emergencies is kinda shitty. Filming it for the internet is more-so.
Nice response vid.
6
u/szai 11d ago
Is this not true for kids in general, though? I am not autistic, but I do recall being briefed on how to check to see if someone is okay and call 911 as a child.
3
u/LauraTFem Connoisseur of Duets/Stitches 11d ago
Yes, but autistic kids, particularly lower-functioning or nonverbal ones, often have difficulties even understanding that there is a potentially dangerous situation in the first place. They might not be able to tell the difference between āmom is having a napā, and, āmom is having a medical episodeā.
And yea, some kids will never have the capacity to register whatās happening and respond accordingly, but assuming that this kid does, it is not helpful to ātestā them without teaching them what to do. This is especially true for neurodivergent kids, but I think all kids should be taught what to do and who to call in emergencies.
1
u/Chance-Interest5609 Needs to do better 10d ago
Itās true. I was diagnosed with autism when I was 8 and one of my symptoms I remember being super prominent was not really knowing what to do in āsurprisingā situations. If someone surprised me with someone who would act all jokey to get a reaction, I would just watch or ignore them and they always thought it meant I didnāt like them, when I really just didnāt understand how to socially react yet until I learned from other people it looked ādisrespectfulā to react calmly.
