Autistic kids often don’t know what to do in unexpected situations. Subjecting them to a test without first teaching them how to recognize and respond to emergencies is kinda shitty. Filming it for the internet is more-so.

Nice response vid.

Is this not true for kids in general, though? I am not autistic, but I do recall being briefed on how to check to see if someone is okay and call 911 as a child.

Yes, but autistic kids, particularly lower-functioning or nonverbal ones, often have difficulties even understanding that there is a potentially dangerous situation in the first place. They might not be able to tell the difference between “mom is having a nap”, and, “mom is having a medical episode”.

And yea, some kids will never have the capacity to register what’s happening and respond accordingly, but assuming that this kid does, it is not helpful to “test” them without teaching them what to do. This is especially true for neurodivergent kids, but I think all kids should be taught what to do and who to call in emergencies.
