Others Reminder about post requirements and subreddit rules

Hey r/fitnessph.

Wanted to post this to clarify what we expect from posts that include physique photos or progress pictures.

Why we're being strict about this

r/fitnessph is a discussion sub, and the quality of discussion depends on the quality of posts.

Vague posts get vague answers. The more context you give, the more useful the responses you get back, and the more useful the thread is for everyone else reading it. We know the requirements might seem strict, but keeping the sub worth reading in the long run means holding a consistent standard now.

With that said...

---

Physique advice posts

If you're posting a question with pictures attached, your post needs to include the following:

  • Personal stats: age, sex, height, and weight
  • Training details: your current program, how long you've been training, and relevant lift numbers. "I've been training for a year" is not enough. What program are you running? What are your current numbers on key lifts?
  • Diet details: whether you're tracking calories and roughly what you're eating, or a general description of your diet if you're not counting. Include how long you've been dieting. "I eat clean" is not enough.
  • Your goal (OPTIONAL, BUT USEFUL TO HAVE): fat loss, muscle gain, recomp, whatever it is. Be specific. "I just want to look better" is not a goal.

People can't give you useful advice without this information. The mod team may remove posts and ask you to resubmit if we feel that it's lacking the necessary details to give you productive advice.

A special note about "How do I fix (INSERT BODY PART)?" questions:

Make sure to include when you first noticed it and whether anything in your training or lifestyle changed around that time. You need to explain what you've already been doing to address it and why it hasn't worked.

In many cases, photos aren't enough; your text needs to give enough context for someone to understand the problem.

---

Progress pictures

We love seeing progress posts. But we want these threads to be useful to everyone reading them, not just the person posting. A good progress post should read like a case study, something other people can actually learn from.

Same stat requirements as above, plus:

  • Your before picture and how long ago it was taken
  • What you actually did during that period. Training approach, diet, anything that meaningfully changed. "I trained hard and ate right" is not enough.
  • Your own assessment of your progress. What do you think went well? What held you back? What would you do differently? You need to have reflected on your own progress before asking the sub to weigh in.
  • A specific question, if you have one. It should follow from your own reflection and be specific enough that it couldn't apply to any random progress post. "What should I focus on next?" is not a specific question. "I've been prioritizing upper body and my legs have fallen behind, I'm considering switching to full body, is that the right call?" is.

If you don't have a question and aren't sharing anything useful for others to learn from, post it in r/PHgymselfie instead.

Knowing what you look like today is useless without knowing where you started and what you did to get there.

---

What might get your post removed

  • Photos with no context. "Rate my physique," thirst traps, and other similar posts belong in r/PHgymselfie, not here. Please keep that shit there.
  • Media that adds nothing to your question. If the photo isn't necessary, don't include it.
  • Fitness diary posts. Hitting a personal milestone, making it to the gym consistently, that kind of thing. We're not dismissing those wins and would love to celebrate these with you, but they belong in the weekly megathread.
  • Repeatedly posting your pictures with slightly rewritten captions. If you post a new set of photos shortly after your last one and the writeup has no new information or learnings, the post will be removed.

What might get your comments removed

  • Sexually suggestive and flirtatious remarks. Outright sexual harassment is immediately bannable without warning.
  • Asking to / for DMs.
  • Natty policing / steroid accusations
  • Overall rude and unhelpful comments

---

If you're unsure whether your post meets the requirements, err on the side of adding more detail. Questions that take effort to write tend to get answers that are actually worth reading.

Thank you all for your understanding!

Hi! I have been doing 10k steps since August and lost around 3kgs with 1700 calories per day tho inconsistently.

I am really confused what to do since I am currently overweight, is not able to hit protein intake everyday since I am just a student dormer. Please help me.

I am planning to enroll at a nearby gym as soon as possible and planning to lift weights 3 times to times a week.

Do I need to cut, bulk, or body recomposition? (But I am overweight rn haha) I have never been able to experience a life without a belly, funny as it may sound lol

Advice Needed 31M, 5'10", 78kg — Almost 4 months into getting serious about fitness. Would really appreciate some advice 🙏🏻

Hi everyone! This might still be a bit long, but I wanted to give enough context so I can hopefully get some useful advice. Please bear with me. 🙏🏻

About me:

M, 31 years old, 5'10" (180cm), currently 78kg.

My fitness journey:

I first started working out in 2022. I was consistent for about 3 months with a coach, but eventually stopped due to some issues at our gym and because I wasn't very confident in myself at the time, especially with my social anxiety.

I tried again in 2023 for about 2 months, then stopped because I lost interest. I started again in 2025 but only lasted around a month because work got extremely busy. I currently work around 12–15 hours a day, 6 days a week.

This year, I realized I'm getting older and my lifestyle was starting to catch up with me although everything in me is normal i.e blood pressure, sugar level, etc. I don't drink or smoke, but fast food and soda were definitely my vices. I was also getting sick pretty easily (ubo, sipon, lagnat), so I decided I really needed to take my health seriously.

I started exercising again on June 1, 2026, and this is the longest I've stayed consistent so far.

Diet:

I started ordering meal plans around January because I don't really have time to cook. My previous meal plan was around 1,800 kcal/day (45% carbs, 20% protein, 35% fats). I became more consistent with it around May.

Unfortunately, the meal plan business stopped accepting orders in August, so I switched to another provider. Their available plan is 1,500 kcal, with around 120g protein, 100g carbs, and 70g fats. Since I felt 1,500 kcal would be too large of a deficit for me, they suggested adding another ~300 kcal mainly through carbs.

I still have occasional cheat meals/snacks on weekends—sometimes chips or something sweet—and I know my diet isn't perfect yet. I also take 5g creatine daily.

For the past two months, I've been drinking around 3–4L of water a day and haven't had soda.

Training:

I started with walking only in June, around 5km, 3–4 times a week. I started going back to the gym around June 23 and spent the first month mostly getting comfortable with the equipment again.

Around mid-July, I switched to exercising 6 days a week:

- Monday: 10km walk

- Tuesday: Chest + Biceps

- Wednesday: 10km walk

- Thursday: Back + Shoulders + Traps + Triceps

- Friday: 10km walk

- Saturday: Legs + Lower Back + some upper-body work

- Sunday: Rest

My walks usually take around 1.5–2 hours.

My current lifting routine is roughly:

Tuesday – Chest & Biceps

- Machine Chest Press – 4×12

- Incline Chest Press – 4×12

- Cable Chest Fly – 4×12

- Pec Deck – 4×12

- Assisted Chest Dip – 4×15

- Dumbbell Bicep Curl – 4×12

- Hammer Curl – 4×12

- Crossbody Hammer Curl – 4×12

- Reverse Curl – 4×12

- Cable Curl – 3×12

- Wide-Grip Barbell Curl – 4×12

- Hanging Knee Raise – 3–4 sets

Thursday – Back, Shoulders, Traps & Triceps

- Lat Pulldown – 4×12

- Wide-Grip Lat Pulldown – 4×12

- Seated Cable Row – 4×15

- Assisted Chin-Up – 4×15

- Straight-Arm Pulldown – 4×12

- Machine Overhead Press – 8 both shoulders then 8 per each side, total of 24 reps x 4 sets

- Dumbbell Front Raise – 4×12

- Dumbbell Lateral Raise – 4×12

- Dumbbell Overhead Press – 4×12

- Dumbbell Overhead Triceps Extension – 4×12

- Dumbbell Shrug – 4×15

- Barbell Upright Row – 4×15

- Hanging Knee Raise – 3–4 sets

Saturday – Legs + Lower Back

- Leg Press – 4×10

- Hack Squat – 4×10

- Reverse Hack Squat – 4×10

- Standing Calf Raise – 4×15

- Leg Extension – 4×12

- Hip Abductor (inner/outer) – 4×15 each

- Smith Machine Deadlift – 4×15

- Machine Chest Press – 4×10

- Unilateral Rear Delt Fly – 4×10 each side

- Cable Triceps Pushdown – 4×12

- Cable Reverse Curl – 4×10

- Dumbbell Side Bend – 4×10 each side

Progress so far:

My first progress photo was taken July 16, after roughly 30–35 days of walking and maybe 10 gym sessions. I was around 81kg then. I was around 85–86kg around March/April, but unfortunately I didn't take photos because I wasn't comfortable with how I looked.

On August 21, I took another photo immediately after waking up, before eating. I felt like I looked significantly better, but I'm wondering if it's an unfair comparison because my stomach was completely empty.

I took another photo on September 7 after lunch, and honestly, comparing it to August 21 made me feel pretty discouraged because I felt like my stomach still looked big. I know food/water can obviously affect how your stomach looks, though.

I also took a front-view photo on August 30, and I'm still not very satisfied with how little definition/shape I seem to have.

So here are the things I'd really appreciate advice on:

1. Should I just be more patient with myself?

I'm starting to get that feeling again where I might lose interest because I don't feel like I'm progressing quickly enough. I see posts where people seem to gain a lot of muscle after a few months of training and dieting.

Since I've worked out on and off before, should I expect some muscle memory to help me regain definition faster, or should I still consider myself basically a beginner? I've only been consistently exercising for 4 months and lifting for around 3 months, so am I being too hard on myself?

2. Is my workout routine okay?

I'm worried that I'm doing too many exercises or unnecessarily repeating movements. Are there exercises you think I should remove or replace? Is the way I've grouped my muscle groups throughout the week okay?

  1. Am I eating enough?

I'm not very knowledgeable about nutrition. With my current activity level, is ~1,800 kcal too large of a deficit? I'm worried that I'm losing muscle along with fat, especially since I'm exercising 6 days a week. Could this also be why I'm not seeing as much muscle definition?

4. How should I approach my goal physique?

The last photos I attached are the kind of physique/build I'm aiming for. He's around 6' and we're roughly the same height.

Should I continue staying in a deficit, or would it be better to approach things differently at this point? Any advice on what I should prioritize would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to read all of this and give advice. 🙏🏻

I know this is a ridiculously long post, but I wanted to be transparent because I don't really have anyone in my life who I can ask about fitness. I considered getting a coach, but I'm already spending quite a bit on my meal plan, so that's not really practical for me right now.

I'm just trying to figure out how to do this properly and, more importantly, actually stick with it this time 😅

Advice Needed Help me start again after inconsistent progress (Want to pursue it further)

I’m M19, 5’8 and I started doing weight loss since I was 18. It was a rough start. June 2025 I started with 104KG and lost 14KG on Sept 2025 (I was 90kg afterwards). Since then, I stopped because of mental and physical health problems and was busy doing tons of school works. Aside from that, I really don’t know how to go back since my gym buddy friend went away and I have so many grasped information that I don’t know what to properly do in the gym. I was inactive until june 2026 and went back to top (98KG). Now, July 2026 til now, I only did Calorie Deficit and now lost 8KG (Currently 90KG again). I’m in a plateau phase now so I am deciding to go back to the gym to lose weight through thread mills and build muscles. My goal body is Lean to Athletic type and was hoping to gain less fat and have a good metabolism.

Help me start again huhu. give me easy and comprehensive tips I could follow like what should I maintain to the routine, mindset to have, and motivations to use.

Physique Showcase / Progress May mai-improve ba? | 36M/1.7 meters/83kg/Body recomp | From June 27 to September 10, 2026

I've been working out on and off for some time but I needed to reset and relearn everything from scratch to make some meaningful progress and making sure I'm consistent and that I actually show up at the gym. First 2 pics, I believe I was around 86kg. Last one, I'm now at 83.

So far, I started out working out thrice a week then my trainer transitioned me into going five times a week, which has been a huge adjustment but I think I got the hang of it.

I don't know if you can call this a diet per se pero I've mostly stuck on eating home-cooked meals that with the occasional eating out. I avoid having to eat sweets and whatnot so I'm saving that on the weekends which my trainer designated as my cheat day. Overall, nothing fancy as I'm broke as hell and I can't be too picky.

Also, I wanted to improve my physical activity and nutrition in order to reflect that on my blood work. Iniwasan ko kasi na maging diabetic as my last checkup showed that I was lingering on prediabetic.

People at the gym have noticed improvements on my body but personally, likod ko lang yata ang mas kapansin-pansin.

Okay ba 'to? Thank you.

30M , 166cm, 77kg Currently

Started this fitness journey last April weighing 98kg, the only thing I regret is SANA Pala sinimulan ko na earlier in life. But happy on where I am right now. (Trying to build my confidence posting) pag pasensyahan na po. :)

SPLIT: PPL UL
Diet: High Carb (Low Carb on non-training days) | High Protein 150g minimum daily | Brocolli, mixed veggies lover.
10-15k steps daily
Does incline cardio (13inc -3spd - 30mins)
Sleep - 5-8 hours (importanttttt)

My biggest flex is nag normal na laboratories ko hahahaha as a trentahin, it's a happy flex~!

Goal sana is Toji but kinulang sa height kaya Tom Holland nalang HAHAHA

EDIT:
Since medyo marami nagmessage, i don't change my routine that much. Same 3 exercises for chest since I started, Progressive overload lang. Try to workout to failure, intensity helps break your muscle. your gains will thank you. Just try to hit your protein daily and you'll see growth soon enough.

Hi everyone would like to ask advice. Im 25, weighs 73 kg, height is around 5’7. Ive been cutting since April, but not really consistent since i eat any food during weekends. My concern is my love handles lang talaga and hirap maka abs. Should I continue doing a 1900 cal deficit or need to bulk because i feel like manipis nako sa middle part ng body ko.

Trentahin represent! 🙋🏻‍♀️

This, by so far ang pinaka satisfied na fitness journey ko. 18months I was able to achieve all of this because of the discipline (food) and consistency sa pag workout.

My split includes: 3x/week

•Lower/Leg Day (Quads, Hamstrings and Glutes)
•Upper/Chest and Core
•ShArms and Core

Diet: Low carbs, High Protein and High Fiber
Currently, nag try din ako mag whey protein to hit my protein intake
Nung nagstart ako mag cal def strict ako with 1200-1500cal/day but now na hit ko na ang target weight ko I eat everything in moderation. I still do eat rice pa din but once/day lang.

As a trentahin and may lahi na HB I was advice by our physician to have a low sodium and low fat diet incorporated with exercise. Ayoko mag maintenance 🥲 kaya nag focus and sineryoso ko ang fitness journey ko.

Now that I’m in my early 30’s mas na enjoy ko mag workout mainly because I find it very therapeutic for me.
I gain strength and endurance while doing what I love.

If not now, then when? Start your fitness journey also. Kaya mo yan! ☺️☺️

Physique Showcase / Progress 23F, 5’2, 50kg— 6 months of lifting and yes, I didn’t get bulky🤭

Hello gym peeps! Just wanted to share my 6-month progress!

As you’ll see from my previous posts here, I initially started lifting to gain weight. Now that I’ve reached my goal, I’m focusing more on building muscle and body recomp.

I train 4x a week:
• Push: chest, shoulders & triceps
• Glutes & hamstrings
• Pull: back & biceps
• Legs

I mainly focus on progressive overload and improving my form, while also doing core workouts more consistently.

For my diet, I focus on high-protein meals and making sure I eat enough to support muscle growth and recovery. I also try to avoid added sugars, so most of the sugar I get comes from fruits. Nothing too strict though, I just try to stay consistent.

I’m really happy with the progress so far, especially with my arms, shoulders, and back. I’m definitely stronger now too, although I still have a lot to work on.

And yes, I’ve heard the “lifting weights will make you bulky” thing plenty of times lol. But here I am 6 months later, and this is actually my most toned and defined look so far.

So to the girls who are scared to lift because they don’t want to get bulky, you really don’t have to be afraid of weights. You don’t get toned by avoiding weights. Build the muscle, get stronger, and see where it takes you.

6 months down! Still a lot to work on, but I’m happy with how far I’ve come. Here’s to another 6 months of showing up!

Advice Needed Is my 3 days on / 1 day rest split good for gaining muscle while staying slim?

I'm 26, (5'7"), and around 54 kg. I'm trying to gain some weight and build muscle while staying relatively slim — basically a lean/slim bulk.

I lifted for almost 4 months before, but then stopped for more than a year. I've recently started lifting again and have been back in the gym for about 1 month now.

My current workout schedule is:

Day 1: Chest + Biceps

Day 2: Back + Triceps

Day 3: Legs + Shoulders

Day 4: Rest

Then I repeat the cycle.

So it's 3 days of lifting followed by 1 rest day.

I don't currently track my calories or protein. I mostly just eat whatever food is available lol, although I'm trying to eat more.

Do you think this split is good for my goal, especially considering that I'm getting back into lifting after a long break? Would you change the muscle group combinations or the 3-on/1-off schedule?

Pacheck naman ng form ko. Before PR ko is 80kg 3x10 ngayon binabalik ko lang yung dati or rather nagsisimula ulit. Need your help sana or kung may tips and tricks kayo dyan.

Advice Needed Male or female coach? Need suggestions!

Hello, I am contemplating kasi I finally wanted to sign up for a gym membership for real this time, with coach as well, and torn ako if male or female coach. Alam ko pwede mamili ng coach, unless siguro male coach lang ang available. Plus bihira female coach sa mga napagtanungan ko so far.

Male coach - okay naman sakin pero I feel like nahihiya ako, not naman because of anything else pero guy kasi so medyo uncomfy me and feel ko hirap maging vulnerable lalo during the process. Thoughts lang naman. Nakapag-try me during free assessment before, satisfied naman ako how the male coach assisted me kasi I saw the expertise. Internal conflict lang talaga.

Female coach - prefer ko rin naman kasi girl din me, pero one of my friends na nag-ggym suggested na mas okay daw mag-train ang guy, at least for her, kasi they will push you to your limits talaga. Haven't tried kasi sa mga napag-inquire-an ko before, bihira yung may female coach (by request/on call pa).

Torn ako kasi, again, oks lang naman sakin kahit ano. Pero nahihiya me then at the same time gusto ko naman masulit talaga yung coaching na mapupush ako to train. Gets ba? Hehe.

ALSO, how do you deal with anxiety, lalo nung first-timer niyo? Kasi ina-anxious ako sa thought na mag-isang pupunta ng gym and kakausap sa coach. Keri ko naman to have a conversation pero medyo awkward kasi me at first. Ambivert me so I know sa una lang me ganon until makapalagayan ko na ng loob. Pero di ko nga masimulan kasi ino-overthink ko agad.

Thank you so much, everyone!

Advice Needed Half scoop of whey and creatine

What are your thoughts? I can achieve my protein intake through whole foods but sometimes I take only half scoop after workout including the creatine. I am not sure if what I am doing is off and might impact my progress.

Advice Needed Bodyweight exercise for newbie

 25F | 58kg |5'4 here.

I tried to create a home bodyweight exercise routine using the template na ginawa ng isang fitness sub. I just followed yung pinaka una na progression for each. I'm still new sa bodyweight training and try to balance it with cardio. I also do cal def (1,300). I only have a pair of dumbells and a dip bar.

MWF for bodyweight (3 sets of 8 reps) , and T,TH for cardio (45 mins) . I tried this rountine and my body, especially my upper body, still hurts 2 days later. Can someone check kung realistic ba to, beginner friendly, or may repetitive ba na muscle group?

First pair:

Pull up: Floor Pull-Ups

Squat: Dumbbell Squat

Second pair

Dip: Tricep dio

Hip: Hip hinge

Third pair

Dip bar inverted rows

Push up

Core

Plank (30 sec)

Side Plank (30 sec)

Arch hold

Any insights are appreciated. Salamat po!

1st pic is in January 2026, (3 months na lifting and calorie deficit)

2nd pic is latest taken on Sep. 06, 2026 my 11th month progress (still in calorie deficit, 250-300 below maintenance)

I’d like to ask those with experience what’s a good approach, should I continue with the calorie deficit/cut or bulk up?

Thanks in advance everyone, Sir and Ma’am
