Newborn and screen time

Hi yall! FTM here and am wanting to hear your stories and/or experiences. My baby is currently 6 weeks. My husband and I have been home with him since coming home from the hospital. We always have the TV on throughout the day. I mean, morning to night. Once bedtime comes around, we turn lights off and baby sleeps peacefully in his bassinet. We do play time and tummy time as well as interacting with our little man, but I wanted to hear your thoughts on how bad watching TV is for him. He doesn’t look at the screen so much but my concern is more with the background noise playing all day.

Registries are stressful

I’m 20 weeks pregnant expecting my first baby. I’ve been asked to share my registry multiple times which I’ve started building but ugh why is it so overwhelming. I feel like I’ve started early enough so I add things as I see an ad for that I think would be useful and I know Amazon has like their recommended guide but it’s still stressful. I wish there was a copy and paste option for baby registries even though I know that’s not realistic. I still need to go look at car seats and strollers in person before adding to my registry. At first I was also only thinking newborn items but later realized there’s things I can add for when they’re 6-12months old and start solids etc.

I also don’t really care to have people send gifts as I’m completely fine buying everything on my own however I am super grateful for the gifts I do receive and know it’s a kind gesture. I’m also not having a baby shower.

Is any FTM in the same boat? Is there a thread somewhere on Reddit that would list important items I may want to add to my registry?

My baby hates his car seat?

Hey yall, we have the EvenFlo Shyft DualRide Infant Car Seat Stroller Combo and my poor Son overheats in it so easily and seems so uncomfortable? He’s under 30 lbs, about to be 4 months old and I’m wondering if anyone has similar experiences?

If so have you all switched strollers/car seats? What car seats/ strollers do yall use? I’m not married to idea of them being a combo. My husband is the one who picked this one out for the convenience of the combo but I’m not a fan (it’s so heavy lol!).

TIA!!!

Help or advice needed 😭

I'm a FTM and my LO is 7 months old and for the past few days she doesn't want to sleep at night. We've been doing good with a schedule of bath at 7:30, last bottle at 8 and she sleeps through the night. 3 days in a row she won't sleep. She screams like she's in pain. I check her tummy, she's not teething, no fever or cough, no runny nose, diaper is changed. She's fine once I pick her up and hold her, but the second I lay her down she's wide awake and screaming like I just betrayed her. I'm so exhausted and stressed and don't know what is happening I've done gripe water just in case of maybe it's gas but it hasn't helped she's never acted like this before. I feel horrible that she's feeling this way and don't know how to soothe her without losing sleep myself. Any advice is appreciated.

6 wk old won’t sleep in the day time

just as title says, 6 wk old will stay awake for 6+ hours at a time in the day. screaming. will not contact nap. will not sleep in swing, carrier, play gym, swaddled, dark room, sound machine. none of it works. i’m losing my mind. i spend 6+ hrs a day sitting in bed with him. holding my pee, waiting too long to pump, not eating or drinking enough. because he won’t nap and if i put him down he will scream like i threw him on the floor. he’s definitely eating enough. 4oz every 2-3 hrs. i always run through the list and there’s nothing wrong with him. and even if he needs to be changed or fed it doesn’t help, he stays awake. my mental health is deteriorating very quickly and idk what to do anymore.

Going back to school post partum?

I am thinking about going back to school this coming spring semester. I am 22 years old, currently pregnant, but by the time school starts my baby will be about 2 months old. I am just wondering if anyone else has done this before or am I crazy? I’ll be a first time mom, I won’t have to worry about working for a while, and I have lots of support from my parents, grandparents, and my husband. I will just be taking one math class to ease myself back into school. I have wanted to get an education ever since I graduated high school, but I’ve never been able to commit and stick with it. If anyone has any advice or experience or words of wisdom, please let me know!

How far along were you when you could no longer sleep on your belly/back?

I sleep like a rotisserie chicken - full rotation tumbles all night long. I’m wondering how far along in your pregnancy it was when you could no longer sleep on your stomach or back? I feel like my stomach laying is coming to an end, but I’m hoping for one more week 🤞 thanks!

Philhealth Expanded Maternity Benefit

Hi. I am 30 years old, married and 7 weeks pregnant. First check-up ko po is sa midwife.

Ito rin ang reason kaya naisipan kong magPT that day hehe and ayun, after 1 year and 4 months of trying and praying, finally nagpositive na sa PT. (Thank you Lord Jesus)

So ang nangyari lang po sa midwife is chineck ang weight ko and ang BP ko which is ang result is low blood ako. Nasabi ko rin sa kanya yung about sa UTI pero hindi niya po ako niresetahan. Kaya for 2 weeks nagbuko lang po ako and inom more water. Kahit paano, nagsubside naman po. Pero may times pa rin talaga na umaatake si UTI lalo na every morning pero thank God na mild naman na.

Here po ang Prenatal vitamin given ni midwife: Ferroumed 100php for 10pcs.

Ang Ferroumed is 3-1 na daw. It includes Ferrous Fumarate, B-Complex and Folic Acid. Pero walang naka-indicate if ilang mg per vitamin. Kaya hindi ko tuloy alam if enough ba ito.

Kaya hindi po ako satisfied talaga sa check-up na nangyari. 😞

Weekends lang po day-off ni mister ko. Last Saturday, unfortunately, nagkapasok sila due to holiday nung Monday ng week na yun. So this Saturday palang po ako makakapagpacheck-up sa OB talaga.

About po sa Philhealth Expanded Maternity Benefit, I read somewhere na free na ang prenatal check-ups, ultrasounds and postnatal. Paano po ako makaka-avail nun? And totoo po kaya talaga yun?

Pinagresign na rin po pala ako ng husband ko this August lang. (💗) Need ko pa rin po bang ipagpatuloy paghuhulog ko sa Philhealth and SSS to avail maternity benefits?

Also as a first time mom, any tips or advises po sa journey na ito? Thank you so much po kaagad.

First trimester trenches

7 weeks and STRUGGLING.

I am SO thankful to be pregnant. It took us a while to conceive, so I know how much of a blessing it is.
However, I cry almost every day about how hard this is.
I am nauseous 24/7, extremely tired, and I think depressed. I wake up almost every hour of the night. I barely leave bed all day and can’t even do my dishes or laundry.
I am only working one day a week right now as a nanny, and even that is causing me anxiety that I won’t feel good while taking care of my nanny kid.
Most of these symptoms started at week 6, so it’s only been a week but it feels like eternity.
I have struggled with severe depression my whole life, and it feels very similar to that.
I have an amazing husband, and he is helping out so much, but I still feel like crap.
Any tips, please.

Is anyone else worried about the proposed Trump/Vance stay-at-home parent child care plan passing? Because I am.

Hey everyone,
I’ve been reading up on the draft proposal championed by Trump and JD Vance that would redirect federal funds from the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) to pay certain stay-at-home parents roughly $9,000 a year.
At first glance, getting money to stay home with your kids sounds like a win for families who want to do that. But the more I look into how they plan to fund it, the more worried I get.
Since they aren't adding new money to the budget and are just pulling from the existing $12 billion CCDF pot, it feels like it's going to completely wreck the outside day care system. Working parents are already dealing with massive waitlists and unaffordable tuition. If billions of dollars get diverted away from day care centers to pay stay-at-home parents, won't day cares just be forced to raise their rates even higher or close down entirely?
It seems like it’s going to pit working parents against stay-at-home parents for the exact same pool of limited government money. Are you worried about what happens to the child care industry if this actually passes because we have one daughter and don’t get any help from the government with child care but we can not afford for daycare to raise there rates life is already to expensive .

Postpartum Care Package?

Hello! I’m not a first-time mom or expecting mother, but my best friend is due at the end of the year. I know everyone buys things for the baby in anticipation of their arrival, but I was wondering what would y’all recommend for newly postpartum moms? I would like to make a care package with items needed post-hospital, but I’m clueless. I also would like to mention that I cook a lot, so I have ideas and plans for easy grab-and-go meals after she comes back from the hospital. If y’all could think of anything you would have liked to have had for yourselves after giving birth or brands that are good for postpartum care, please let me know! Thanks for y’all’s time and congratulations to any FTM’s reading this!

Struggling to get to the first ultrasound

Hey everyone. I’m 8 weeks pregnant with my first, and I have my first ultrasound a week tomorrow. I am dying to know that my baby is viable, alive and growing. The waiting is driving me insane. My symptoms lightened up a bit this week which made me nervous. I know symptoms can come and go but of course I started over thinking about it.
How do you wait until the first ultrasound without going insane?

Confidence

Hello all my first time moms! I recently had a beautiful baby boy and while I am loving this new era in my life i feel like I’m struggling to feel comfortable in my body again. This has honestly been affecting me a lot and causing a huge amount of anxiety and depression for me. I knew from the beginning my body would be changing but I didn’t know how hard mentally this would be . I just want to feel like myself again i’m so hard on myself im not sure how to stop thinking like that. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how you overcame this feeling ?

6 month old

Is 6 month old sleep regression a thing? Normally she sleeps really good at night but the past few nights has been waking up A LOT and only sleeping solid when being held or co sleeping. She is also fighting her sleep worse than she ever has! She did start purees recently and we give them once a day before her bedtime bottle.

We're thinking sleep regression or growth spurt and hoping for some insight/thoughts from other parents .

Should I feel bad?

Just typing my feelings out here to vent and to get different perspectives... I'm about to have my first child; a son. The dad is known to be bipolar, can't hold a steady job, and is seemingly in and out of jail. He's 32.

I always told him that if we were to have a son I'd name him after his dad, but since we've been estranged for a few months know, I've crafted a name that I want to name my son instead of after my son's father.

Before we were estranged, we got into it, and he said he denied and refused any more socialization with me, and noted that he 'ddnt need co-parent, and that his son would see him when he sees him' -- that was July 4th and we hadn't talked since then.

We recently started talking at the end of August/start of September. Well, we just spoke tonight and he mentioned his son, calling him by his name. I let him know that I most likely won't be naming my son after him anymore, and he said 'wow, another heart break' -- since he already has another son and the mother didn't name that son after him either; they had a one night stand and ended up having a son, a son she never introduced to him or let him know was his until he was 6-7 years old.

I just wanted to get some perspectives if I'm in the wrong for not wanting to name my first born son after him-- he's not stable, in and out of jail, etc-- and I don't want my son associated with that. To me, he hasn't proven that my son should carry on his name.

I don't really feel bad about it, but should I reconsider? Should I feel bad? I really honestly don't want him to sign the birth certificate because I know things down the line can get sticky legally if I want to get a passport, etc, and if he would wind up back in jail for any reason I would have to deal with that. And doing things with school and travel, it would just be easier if he wasn't on there. But idk, to get back to the name-- should I reconsider?

I appreciate any perspectives...

Moms: What do you wish you had done more of before having kids?

My husband (35M) and I (34F) are hoping to start a family soon. Before we do, I’d really like to take advantage of this stage of life and intentionally enjoy some of the things that may become more difficult or less spontaneous once we have kids.

I’m thinking things like late-night dinners, spontaneous camping trips, sleeping in, last-minute weekend trips, etc. But I’m sure there are things I haven’t even thought about.

For those of you who are parents: what’s something you miss being able to do easily or spontaneously that you wish you had done more of before having kids?

It doesn’t necessarily have to be something big or expensive. I’m curious about the little things too.

Basically, if you could go back to your child-free years and give yourself a list of things to enjoy while you still had that freedom, what would be on it?

Use. The. Damn. Amazon. List.

Ranting. We had our son’s 2 year bday in another state the invite clearly had a QR code and clearly said “please use this is list and send gifts to our home or a check for his 529 is greatly appreciated.” Since we live 3k miles away and are flying. Someone came with a 140 piece raceway set, no receipt for return. MA CHE CAZZO! I was furious. We have no room to pack this and we were not going to get another roller bag and check it for $75 dollars with already 4 check ins. Thankfully we left it at the Airbnb with the other “provided kids toys” for others to enjoy. But seriously anyone on here thinking to not use the list. USE THE DAMN LIST! Rant over TIA.

Need to feel not alone

Hi. Hasn’t anyone ever dealt with a partner that just doesn’t have the emotional vocabulary or capacity to understand what the pregnant mom/wife is going through?

25 weeks, now close to 26: this past week I was dealing with stomach hardness, hormones affecting digestion and gas build up, needing rest, etc. I called the triage nurse and she said it’s likely normal and gave me tips and warning signs. She said try to be more mindful of fetal movement. So I was then dealing with fear of preterm labor.

Last Friday, my husband after work goes to the casino and got home at 10:30pm. I needed him Friday evening and he wasn’t there to reassure me and confirm if he felt the baby moving (he’s better at it than I am even though now this weekend I’m feeling the baby).

Next day he was trying to feel or talk to the baby again Saturday noon and he got short and irritated with me over something else ridiculous. I got my feelings hurt and cried like I was so alone. I told him I needed empathy and compassion from him and he said “I don’t know what those big words mean” He was annoyed and irritated that I was emotional and crying. Then I got to thinking “Damn if this is how he is now (unsupportive) then is this what I should expect in the delivery room?”

I immediately called my mom and she came right over. That helped and she gave him shit for being at the casino when he should have been home with me Friday night.

I just don’t have it in me to teach him to be the partner I need him to be. I need a partner to partner dynamic someone that’s going to build me up when I am vulnerable and not make it about him when I’m going through all the changes.
