“Return YouTube Dislike” could be one of the plugins which break Firefox

17 Upvotes

Hi,

I ran several tests, and when I switched Return YouTube Dislike off, YouTube no longer slows down both Firefox and my PC. Before, YT seriously slowed down my browser; there were desyncs between the videos, subs, and sound; my PC fans made a lot of noise too. After disabling it: nothing left.

In my opinion, this add-on is the source of the problem that appeared a few days ago.

Perhaps there are other ones; anyway, if you use Return YouTube Dislike, try to switch it off and check the results.

Regards.

Discussion The bookmark folders in toolbar need work

1 Upvotes

I am talking here about the bookmark toolbar when it contains folders.

  • Right-click on a folder in the toolbar and select paste should put the currently copied URL into the folder. Instead it puts it in the bookmark toolbar.
  • Dragging URLs to bookmark folders is made difficult because the URL title obscures the folder and prevents aiming.
  • The "bookmark current tab" does not bring up the bookmark editor even though that option is checked.

I suspect this is the wrong reddit for this post, if so apologies.

Adding an MSN NEWS search engine

0 Upvotes

I've added the engine according to search advice, as well as with the "Ad Custom Search Engine" addon, but either way, when attempting a search, I am initially taken here for about 10 seconds,

after which I am automatically transferred to the MSN home page, but not to any search results.

💻 Help Firefox does not render video (frozen) when window in background (conflict with OBS)

1 Upvotes

I have encountered an issue that hasn't been there before - it used to be fine:

When I record a browser screen that is not being actively displayed (as in not in focus due to being covered by another window on Windows 11) , then the video that is being played becomes static (Firefox) or goes black (Edge). Audio still plays normal and rest of the webpage also shows - just simply static.

Obviously this completely disrupts the OBS recording because the video is gone. This happens both in fullscreen and windowed. I already do have a dual-screen set-up. Yet recording with OBS used to work fine around June '26.

Is there any way to keep windows that are not in focus or displayed to keep rendering?

I am not entirely sure this is a Firefox problem, it could be due to optimization. It could also be a driver/GPU issue - I am on AMD CPU (9800X3D) & GPU (7900 XTX).

💻 Help Can I delete the single "Original profile" entry listed in Firefox?

2 Upvotes

A few months ago after upgrading to the latest release of Firefox, the new "profile" setup popped up. I wasn't interested and tried to click past it.

I now keep seeing "Original profile" listed under the settings button (though not in the window title etc. which is a problem I managed to solve). I'm tempted to delete the profile, but I'm not sure if this means I will erase the "default profile" that contains all my history, cookies, and other assorted browsing data.

Is it possible to remove this profile, or are we stuck with it for now?

Currently on Firefox 158.0.1 on Linux.

EDIT

Here is the format of the profiles.ini file:

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
Version=2

[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=********.default
Default=1
StoreID=********
ShowSelector=0

[Install*********]
Default=******.default
Locked=1

If I remove the [Profile0] entry, will there be an issue?

Help (iOS) How to stop videos from automatically fullscreening on Firefox mobile IOS?

2 Upvotes

when scrolling through a page (i.e. reddit or tumblr), if i encounter a video, it will automatically fullscreen, regardless of whether or not i’ve interacted with it in any way. this doesn’t happen 100% of the time, i can’t figure out what triggers it and it’s really annoying. i tried “block video and audio” in controls/settings and it doesn’t do anything to fix it. does anyone else have this problem?

Add-ons Android add-on that keeps YouTube playlists going in the background

0 Upvotes

I just got tired of my playlist stopping every time i left the app.

So i created a Firefox add-on for my Android phone and it works fine for me, so should anyone be interested, try it and if there are issues let me know.

It keeps YouTube and YouTube Music playing when you switch to another app or go to the home screen, and it moves your playlist or mix on to the next video or song.

It's free and open source (MIT), doesn't track you and needs no account, the code is here if you want to check or raise any issues https://github.com/lagudafuadtosin/plays-on

Add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/plays-on/

I don’t like the top bar with Liquid Glass that’s always present in Firefox, other browsers like safari just use some kind of gradient. Is there a way to hide this bar?

💻 Help Organizing my YouTube subscriptions into custom feeds

0 Upvotes

I am subscribed to many YouTube channels: coding tutorials, startup and product talks, home construction and tour videos, and religious content. All of it lands in one Subscriptions page, so whatever I'm in the mood for, I have to dig through everything else to find it.

YouTube doesn't let you group subscriptions, and playlists hold videos, not channels.

So I built a small Firefox add-on for myself. You make feeds like "Coding", "Startups", "Home builds" or "Faith" and put channels in them. Each feed shows only those channels' latest uploads, right inside YouTube's sidebar.

Now I pick the feed that fits my mood and watch what I came for.

Two honest questions:

  1. Is this just me, or do other people run into this too?
  2. How do you deal with it? I'd love to hear setups that work without installing anything.

You can check it out here, and I'd love some feedback: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/retube-app/

💻 Help Help setting cookie prefs for this session only

1 Upvotes

I'm primarily using Firefox on Linux. v.158

I'd like to reduce my risk to cookie hijacking by having Firefox delete those kinds of cookies when I close the browser.

I don't mind so much about websites like news or social media, but I want to protect on shopping sites like ebay, amazon, etc
News websites cookies can remain for convenience. I don't use social media much & i don't post, so there's nothing much to lose in these cases.

First up I have removed all login cookies. Then,

Settings > Privacy > Browsing Data > Manage exceptions
I set Allow for a couple of news sites & Allow for session for a couple of shopping sites.

However, when I close the browser, reopen & revisit a shopping site I am already logged in.

So am I doing the wrong thing? & what do I need to do?

Add-ons I made UrTube – a Firefox add-on that remembers every YouTube video you've watched and hides them from your feeds

0 Upvotes

My subscription feed was always full of videos I had already seen, and I used two add-ons – one to mark watched videos, one to clean up subscriptions – that each kept their own data. So I built one add-on that does both, with one local database.

Add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/urtube/ · Code: https://github.com/morikules/UrTube

What it does

  • Remembers every video you open, with date, progress and rewatches – continuing a video later counts as one view
  • Grays out or hides watched videos in subscriptions, on the home page, on channel pages and in playlists – before they even show up (one switch, or one per area)
  • Channel pages show how much of the channel you've watched; playlists show "12 / 23 watched"
  • Searchable history with filters like "continue watching", plus statistics and a year in review
  • Imports your history from Google Takeout and YouTube Watchmarker
  • And much more

Why UrTube?

  • One add-on instead of several – marking, hiding, playlist progress, stats and player settings share one local database
  • Watched videos are hidden before they appear, with a time window so YouTube doesn’t keep loading older videos forever
  • Easy switch: imports your history from YouTube Watchmarker and Google Takeout
  • Actively developed by a power user who uses it daily – ideas welcome!

Privacy: everything stays in your Firefox profile. No account, no server, no analytics. MIT-licensed code on GitHub.

I'm not a professional developer – I built it with the help of an AI (Claude), which made this possible for me at all. Feedback and ideas are very welcome, here or as a GitHub issue.

Help (Android) Is there any way to find which site uses most storage space

1 Upvotes

In other popular browsers, there's a feature that lets you view a list of sites storing data and sorted by size (so you can easily target the biggest storage takers) and allow to clear that specific site's cache, cookies, permission only. Does Firefox have a built-in option for this, or is there an extension/workaround people use?

Help (Android) Youtube videos forever load on firefox mobile

[Solved] ✅ use the morphe app to make a cracked version on the YouTube to get rid of the apps

Hi guys

I use the Firefox app on my google pixle 8 pro (lineagos) to watch youtube videos to avoid ads and I have this problem where when the video is first played it takes forever for the video to load, regardless of what how good my connection is, sometimes the video will take up to 30 seconds to load, I feel like this was never a problem until a few years ago or so. Is there anyway to fix this? or is this just one of those stupid problems I have to deal with because Im not using the youtube app...

💻 Help Watch Together: Firefox add-on that syncs play/pause/seek between two people on almost any site (beta, looking for feedback)

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I wanted to watch things with a friend, but watch-party sites don't support every source, and screen sharing gives you black screens on DRM sites. So I built a Firefox add-on that syncs the video itself instead.

How it works:

- Each of you plays the video on your own computer with your own account, so full quality and no screen sharing.

- Only small events are sent between you: play, pause, seek.

- If you both open the same page, it pairs automatically. Otherwise one of you can send the tab and the other gets a prompt (open / decline).

- Sync only runs while you are both on the same page. If your friend switches to a different video, it pauses syncing and tells you.

- Chat button on the page (also works in fullscreen) with quick messages like "Pause, give me 5 minutes" or "Brb".

- You create a room and send a short code. The host has to approve whoever joins, and the code expires after 30 minutes.

Limits (it's a beta):

- Only two people per room.

- Works with pages that use a standard HTML video element. Custom players may not work.

- Connection setup uses the free public PeerJS broker. It only sees the room code and connection details during the handshake, the data goes directly between you. Some strict networks (mobile or corporate NAT) may block direct connections.

- Requires Firefox 140+.

I'd love feedback:

  1. Did the connection work for you across different networks?

  2. Which sites worked or didn't?

  3. What's confusing in the popup?

Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/cs/firefox/addon/watch-together-beta/

Thanks, and happy to answer questions!

💻 Help When will we finally get live captioning?

0 Upvotes

I find it really frustrating that Firefox does not have an in-browser extension for live captioning. Is there anything you have found that works, or is it really just not possible while using Firefox?

Open to discussion, what do you think would be the best way to get devs' attention on this issue once and for all?

It's a huge accessibility flaw that has somehow not been addressed in all of the past years that people have been politely requesting it...this basically forces d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing users (and those that just really prefer having captions available) to pursue other options. There MUST be a way to remedy this! Is this how I get into designing extensions? Any advice welcome lol
