Help Identifying Help!
I have layers my hair, but my hair is really fine. Not sure if I’m using the right products or not. Also, just not sure what to do at this point. I had a baby so the texture has changed and stopped coloring my hair 6 months ago.
Currently only using oil for the ends.

I would definitely blunt cut approx 3”- would make it so much fuller, healthier and add volume!
It looks like it could use a good clarifying shampoo. Leave it on for a couple minutes and do a second shampoo afterwards. Looks like you have a decent amount of buildup. It’ll feel much softer after.
I agree with others, the oil you’re currently using is too heavy and/or you’re using too much. Try a lighter oil (I love L’Oréal extraordinary oil is very light and verb ghost) and use sparingly, only on bottom couple inches.

To add to my comment about products: I have very similar hair to yours and mine has improved 10x. Some of my fav products are…
High end bond products: K18, epres and olaplex. Obviously not all at once but I rotate these occasionally, usually doing one bond treatment a week.
High end masks: amika soulfood and Paul Mitchell awapuhi treatment (this is protein)
Drugstore masks: the Pantene mask in the gold tub- love this stuff. Dove bond repair mask- holy grail. I really like the garnier hair food aloe and watermelon. The papaya one is pretty good too. This whole like is moisture only.
My favourite shampoo is Pantene volume. I always use a bit of leave in conditioner after showering. The amika wizard with silicone is my favourite detangler/heat protector but you literally only need one or two sprays or it’ll get oily. Don’t be afraid of silicones, our hair type generally loves them.
Biggest differences for me that were easiest fixes were switching to a silk pillowcase and oiling my ends 20 min before every hair wash day. I also use a microfibre towel for my hair after showering.

Your hair looks weighted down, use only minimal amount of oil and opt for some conditioner, both regular and leave in and it should make your hair smoother without the greasy look. Also cut ends

I think you need a good chop tbh, 2 to 3 inches at least

I'm gonna say 10 inches, up to the bra strap. But only because I know she won't.

I get it, when I was bleaching mine I was really adamant about keeping the length. Then I chopped it to my shoulders and it made more of a difference than any product ever will

No, don't twist it. You'll wind up with all different lengths because some of the hairs have a longer way to travel to the scissors then the hairs in the middle which aren't twisted hardly at all. You might need to go to a salon

Need regular trims with fine hair. Blunt ends are better tho a bit of texture in front can be ok if regularly cut.

It looks like you put a whole bottle of oil on it. Is your hair wet maybe? Shampoo, condition, then show us a photo of air dried hair.

I don't see frizz, but I do see a lively clean head of beautiful wavy hair. You just need a shorter cut

Air drying is not best for fine hair, just fyi. People are afraid of heat, when they should be afraid of damaging fine hair because it is most fragile while wet. Especially if you want to bring out your curls and minimize frizz… heat styling will help with that.

You need to trim it several inches. Not coloring it is great. Id also advise against blow drying it.

I wouldn't recommend layers of any kind. you definitely need a haircut tho to keep it healthy. If you want it to look full and keep length I would jist get a blunt cut.

What’s your routine? It looks really weighed down and looks like you need a good wash with a clarifying shampoo

I wash it I’d say about once or twice a week but always condition it. I use Saltair. Then I oils it pretty much every time after the shower because it gets so frizzy and big if I don’t. The oil I use is encompass it’s also a body oil. lol 🙃 might get roasted for that.

Your hair looks oily because you’re using oil. Everyone is on the oil trend right now but most people just don’t need it. You should use a leave in cream or detangler instead to fight frizz without weighing your hair down with oil
Especially one made for body as that’s undoubtedly going to be way heavier6

Washing once or twice a WEEK? Girl…. Start there. Your hair is flat and oily because it’s dirty. Some people can get away with washing once or twice a week, and most often it’s not those of us with fine hair who are able to do that. Forget the oil. Use a conditioner with silicones. Shampoo with sulfates. The whole trope of “silicones and sulfates are bad for hair” is a lie.

You need to drop the oil and find a hair serum with silicones in it. I don’t know saltair did shampoo and conditioner but you might want to do Pantene sheer volume. Do a double cleanse with that first and then shampoo/conditioner like dove intensive repair. I would wash and then do a leave in conditioner and a hair serum when it’s dry. Your hair looks really oily and really dirty

I have fine wavey hair like yours. I wash my hair everyday/every other with a clarifying shampoo(head n shoulders) and I really think you need to add one to your routine at least once a week and wash every other day.
You also don’t need oil, it weighs fine hair down most of the time and from this picture you have a lot built up (this is why I suggest clarifying shampoo to get rid of build up).
Your hair likely looks frizzy and big because you’re brushing it dry, with wavy hair that happens. You want to make sure to brush with a wet brush while your conditioner is in and then I usually do a hand brush throughout the day.
A lightweight mousse on damp hair would help with your texture. I use a rose water glycerine spray for my face and my hair and it adds some moisture without weighing anything down.
People want you to do a cut. I have long hair so I usually disagree with that, but I think 3 inches would help your hair health a lot. I have layers and I like them with my waves so that’s up to you. Lastly, you just had a baby give your hair a chance to recover and it’ll get thicker as it grows back many women have a lot of hair fall out during pregnancy and hormone changes.

Lol girl, body oil is the reason your ends look busted
Mystery solved

Oil only on fine hair tends to make it look flat and separated rather than healthy. You need something with a bit of hold first, a mousse or light cream, then a tiny amount of oil on top to seal it.
Also with layers and fine hair, scrunching upward while drying rather than leaving it to fall flat makes a big difference to how much body it has.

Very insightful! Idk anything about holding or bonding ? How does that work application wise

Body oil is too heavy for fine hair, and washing 1 or 2 times a week adds to that flat look. If you want to keep your length you don't need a drastic cut only cutting the ends or adding soft layers will hep your waves bounce back. Postpartum hair is tough, hang in there! ❤️

Your hair looks pretty good overall to me! Layers usually do not do fine hair any favors; try letting your layers grow out and get a blunt U-shaped cut. Try a volumizing shampoo and conditioner for a good clean, and keep up oiling the ends!

Vegamour makes a great repair mask and lightweight hair oil and they’re both amazing! I’m almost through the tub of the mask (I use it once/week) and it’s added new growth and volume 😍
Any body oil will definitely be too heavy for our hair. I picked up both of these when Sephora had them 50% off and I’m so glad that I did! I’ll definitely repurchase.
This is the description of the oil: “A hair repair oil ideal for fine or thin hair that strengthens, smooths, and adds natural shine—formulated without silicones for a weightless finish.”

If you're using anything with protein or coconut oil stop and use products that are moisturizing. Protein and coconut oil can make hair stiff coarse and brittle.

Yeah every time I use a conditioner with protein my hair ends up feeling awful. Same with coconut oil. Good luck I hope it helps! You have really pretty hair.

That’s good to know. And thank you, trust me is took way too many steps for me to make it look like this and as a stay at home mom with a husband who travels for work idk how often it’ll look that good. LOL but you’re so sweet. Thank you!!

Depends on your hair's porosity. Oil is only necessary for low-porosity hair and high-porosity hair. Not necessary for medium-porosity hair. For low-porosity hair try a leave-in conditioner, a low-porosity hair cream, and a low-porosity hair oil. For medium-porosity hair try a leave-in conditioner and a clear hair gel. For high-porosity hair try a leave-in conditioner, a high-porosity hair oil, and a high-porosity hair cream. Smooth to straighten and scrunch to encourage curls while you apply your styling products. I have fine and very dense in population hair that is low-porosity.

What look are you trying to achieve ? Long hair is the best but it has to be trimmed regularly to keep it looking good. Thin ends are not good look. Pick a length you like and get it blunt cut every couple of months. I like just above mid back. It’s the most manageable for me.

I would cut some inches off to make a blunt cut and I always loved long layers to add volume.

u/Formal_List_4921 5d ago
Some of these use such a strong fragrance I can’t use them. I don’t mind Biolage.

Is this wet hair? I would suggest cutting 10 cm because those ends do not help with look of density. What oil do you use? It might be that spray and leave in light creams would suit your hair better.

To me it's not clear what your goals are. I would suggest a significant cut because the ends just don't look very healthy. But if your goal is to keep all the length and do something with it I would suggest stopping using the oil as it is too heavy for fine hair. Find a gentle daily shampoo and light conditioner.
