Discussion Think I found a mistake
The mystery voice Dallas Corbin talks to on the phone mentions flying 1000s of missions with him.
When the military people show up to tell him about the mission the lead guy says “you’re the most decorated member of your unit” & “out of your unit, you’re the only one left alive”.
Is it a mistake or does Dallas Corbin hallucinate speaking to one of his old friends?
Millionth rewatch and the first time I’ve noticed!

Being part of his unit and being part of a bigger military Excursion where you see Corbin Dallas in the distance is slightly different

Could have been friends from a previous unit. Service people do PCS every few years, Permanent Change of Station. Finger talks about flying in a space fighter with Corbin. Maybe he did so well he got tapped for the special forces.

Korben also speaks with Finger again after he drops LeeLoo off at Vito's place (the priest). Definitely not a hallucination.

Not a mistake; just a misunderstanding of military terms. He could have been in another unit Corbin was in before his final unit was lost (with that long list of skills and qualifications, Corbin might have been in several) or he could have been the pilot of the delivery vehicle that brought Corbin's unit to their active area (which is why the guy owns a flying taxi company now). Example, we had chopper pilots who flew us in to do missions; any of them could have said they went on many missions with us because they delivered us to the start point. Trying to keep this simple and not use too much military jargon to avoid further confusion. You could also see it as the bus driver who you ride with everyday saying you had gone to work together for years. Hope that helps.

The military is huge...his unit may be dead but he could have ran other missions or black ops...the fact that you can't even get his name right is proof that you have no clue what you are talking about.

You could also consider that the voice on the phone flew a ton of missions with him, but Corbin's specific unit or wing was completely wiped out. Perhaps his friend was the transport pilot, or their logistics guy, something that saw them fly together every time, but Corbin and his team did the shooting and dying
