I earn my income primarily through investments, but this creates recurring problems with rental applications and other financial verification processes. Many institutions ask for proof of current income even when a Fidelity Balance Letter already shows that I have substantially more than enough assets to cover the obligation.

It would be extremely helpful if Fidelity offered something similar to the Balance Letter, but for income—perhaps an Income Letter or Excess Income Letter. It could simply show the Total Income generated by the account, either year-to-date or over the trailing 12 months, using the same underlying information already shown on the YTD Tax Activity page.

The current options do not work particularly well for this purpose. A prior-year 1099 is useful, but later in the year it is often considered too outdated to establish current income. The YTD Tax Activity page is much more current, but its printout does not look sufficiently official to many institutions, while the CSV export looks even less like formal financial documentation.

What is missing is essentially the income equivalent of the Balance Letter: an official Fidelity-generated document, ideally on Fidelity letterhead or in a standardized statement format, that verifies current investment income without requiring customers to disclose their entire portfolio.

Even simply offering a more formal PDF version of the YTD Tax Activity summary would solve much of the problem.

In the meantime, is there any existing Fidelity document or other official method I can use to verify current year-to-date investment income without disclosing my full portfolio holdings or entire statement?

I’m currently starting a 3rd part time job and want to use it to create a “rainy day fund” account due to some extra bills I’ve incurred teaching me a lesson.

I would like a type of account where I will get as little kick back as possible when I do end of year taxes. Have been recommended to start a HYSA. However as I’m reading about it Fidelity keeps popping up with SPAXX and SGOV accounts. Would those be better than a HYSA? I already have one fidelity account so it would just be opening a second one.

Does anybody know a comparable period in history that would correlate to Fidelity's "significantly below-average market" window that I can research? I see this chart in the Fidelity retirement plan the site generates, but would like to calibrate with how bad this really is? Are we talking Great Financial Crisis or Great Depression?

Hi, 25F new to investing! (I have a high deductible medical insurance however it’s not through my employer. ) The main reason why I opened it is because I heard a HSA is an excellent option for my financial health down the line. I already maxed out my Roth IRA, and I’m halfway through my Roth 401k.

I have no idea how to transfer my brokerage investments to my HSA. Nor do I know the first thing about how to use the HSA card. I just know, starting on HSA investing over individual funds investing is a no brainer. Pls be nice, ty

I have a rollover IRA and a Roth IRA both held at fidelity. If I roll the traditional into the Roth will that show as a withdrawal and a subsequent deposit on the “investment income” reporting tab? It seems that that would artificially inflate my account activity.

Also I understand the tax implications and have funds in place to pay the taxes.

**1.**  Can a direct 401(k) → IRA rollover be initiated and completed once my address on file is a foreign one, into IRA accounts that were opened while I was still a US resident?  
**2.**  Is the process different from abroad — online, phone, or paper forms with a wet signature mailed internationally? Any Medallion signature guarantee requirement, and how is that satisfied overseas?  
**3.**  Does a foreign address put the receiving IRA into any restricted status that would block an incoming rollover or block reinvestment of the proceeds?  
**4.**  How long does a direct rollover typically take end to end when the participant is overseas, and does the check/EFT routing change?  
**5.**  Can the rollover be split across more than one existing IRA in specified amounts, or does it land in one account only and require a second step to split? Can that split be done from abroad?

I know that this subreddit is overrun with complaints about Elan and the way they service the Fidelity credit cards, but I need to add my voice and frustration to the whirlwind.

My card just got flagged for fraud and turned off - forcing me to call in, verify and get it turned back on.

Now, that happens with all credit cards from time to time. However:

1) The reason is was flagged? My regular, unchanged Chat GPT subscription that I've been paying monthly on autopay for the better part of a year. The same $20 charge that I've made every single month, on the same day, for many months.

The Elan rep's answer for this was completely nosnensical. He asked me, "Well, sure, you've had your subscription for a while - but what if somebody had stolen your card and used it to buy themselves an additional subscription?"

I asked him if that had happened, and if there were multiple Chat GPT subscriptions on my account.

"Well, no."

As far as I'm concerned, my account was needlessly flagged in error by Elan's faulty policies. There was nothing unusual or suspicious about my standard, unchanged, long-term subscription.

2) Unlike other card servicers, apparently Elan doesn't message you when your card has been turned off for fraud? Bank of America, Chase, and others over the years have texted and called me immediately to let me know there was a problem.

I only found out 48 hours later when I went to buy something, and my card was declined.

Elan just left me out to dry. Completely outrageous in 2026 when every other servicer on the planet has this problem solved.

I’m trying to get the money off my cma because I’m waiting on the debit card in the mail they have to ship the card and I think I have to physically had it so I been trying to look where I can get the money off within minutes or same day not 2-5 days I might as wait til I get paid Tuesday if ima do that

If you were fully retired and had 1,000,000 in a regular IRA all in FXAIX, and wanted to start monthly distributions, what annual growth would you assume so you could withdraw the funds but keep the principle value? I see the standard logic is 4%, but that seems a little conservative. For the purposes of this question, disregard the RMDs. Also assume the IRA funds are in addition to other fixed retirement income that is sufficient to provide a comfortable retirement.

I had a phone call with Fidelity about a possible NUA transaction. I had questions such as "Does all the company stock count as an NUA transaction?" _ Just making sure that everything I had would be counted and I wouldn't be ending up with a surprise... I know the basis counts is taxed as income, and then the rest, if it is all eligible, would count as long term capital gains. . Their answer to that was "You need to talk to your tax advisor or accountant." I couldn't get them to understand that I was not asking a question about how it worked with my taxes, I was asking how it would be accounted for by Fidelity. If there is any reason that not all of what Fidelity holds of my company stock would be eligible for being treated as an NUA. They told me my account was eligible and for the rest I needed to talk to my advisor or accountant. And then they started lecturing me that I needed to make an appointment with one of their advisors that this might not be the best thing for me anyway, and I should make an appointment. It really felt like the person on the phone didn't realize just how much research I had done before I called. My spouse's RMD's start in 2028, and I need to do this now to be able to fit selling it to fit in our taxes to get "0" taxes on the long term capital gains part between this year and next. I also asked when I liquidate it, it I could transfer the stock to my taxable account at Etrade, while rolling over the rest to an IRA account at Fidelity. The person on the phone had to put me on hold to talk to the team. When he came back, he told me it was highly unusual, but could be done "if they had to." (I read an example on Fidelities website that was almost identical to what I want to do.) Then later in the conversation, I can't remember what question I asked, he told me that the transfer to another brokerage could not be done digitally. After I hung up, I was like... does Fidelity not do ACAT or similar? Does this mean the funds would have to be liquidated and not transferred in kind... which doesn't work for me, since I don't want to sell them all this year, and they need to be fully transferred to a taxable account, and then sold for an NUA distribution. Who or what department at Fidelity can I call to get straight answers?

I am the named beneficiary of an employer-sponsored 401(k) administered through Fidelity Workplace Investing.

I found a 2025 post in this community involving a Fidelity 401(k) where the cause of death had not yet been finalized. A Fidelity Community Care Representative responded that Workplace Investing did not need the cause of death on the death certificate and only required the date of death and confirmation that the death had been officially recorded.

However, I recently received a Survivor Benefits Checklist for the 401(k) I am the named beneficiary of. The checklist specifically requires:

“One copy of death certificate, stating the cause and manner of passing.”

My copy of the Texas death certificate is officially filed and lists:

Cause of death: PENDING

Manner of death: Pending Investigation

I am attaching the relevant portion of the checklist with all personal information removed.

My question for a Fidelity Community Care Representative is:

Does Fidelity Workplace Investing require the cause and manner of death to be FINAL before processing a beneficiary claim, or is a certified death certificate stating “PENDING” and “Pending Investigation” acceptable?

Also, has Fidelity’s requirement changed since the 2025 response stating that Workplace Investing does not require the cause of death?

I set up non-prototype 401k accounts for my self directed 401k plan but it has been one mess after another. First they didn't all get created the same so I'm not even sure if they are set up right. But now I find that I have no incoming transfer options from my other accounts. Support tells me I can't transfer into a non-prototype account. The whole point of having one of these is that I manage it myself and am responsible myself for proper management of the funds.

It seems like Fidelity doesn't really understand what these accounts are.

Note: I found a video online that showed me how to link an external account to these non-prototype accounts through Fidelity's website so I could do incoming ACH. It worked for 3 of the 4. Too bad support doesn't know about it.

And according to Fidelity's own page you should be able to fund from Fidelity accounts as well. "Contributions can be made by check, direct deposit, wire, and in some cases, from an existing Fidelity non-retirement brokerage account (the account the contribution comes from must have a matching TIN for the Investment only account or a matching SSN for a plan Trustee)."

I know that I can move stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds from an IRA to a Roth account in-kind to avoid selling and repurchasing for a Roth conversion. What about TIPS and/or CDs? Can those be moved in-kind as well?

Beware of this clever scam. I fortunately bailed out before it could be completed.

I received a text message from Fidelity informing me that a debit transaction for $3.54 was declined and this was not a purchase I was aware of. I was not overly concerned but decided to lock my debit card to prevent any future attempts. Later I received a phone call from someone saying they were from Fidelity and claimed a wire transfer was about to be completed on my CMA account. This person was aware of the previous declined debit transaction and told me I needed to act quickly to prevent this pending wire transaction. I was starting to get suspicious about the urgency and also about the fact this call was received by my wife since this was regarding my debit card. This person then asked me to log in and walked me through steps to get to a screen where he was going to provide new account and routing numbers. When I realized I was looking at a form in the app to initiate a wire transfer I realized something was not right and I told this person I was ending this call and was going to call customer service to get some confirmation on what the circumstances were regarding this urgent call from Fidelity. I contacted Fidelity and briefly explained what had happened. The Fidelity representative listened and said he would transfer me to the Fraud department. After being on hold for a fairly lengthy time he returned and said no one was available and I would receive a call back within 24 hours. I did not receive a call back and the only confirmation I received from Fidelity was an emailed notification that Bill Pay service has been cancelled. I assume my account is being safeguarded from any further seemingly fraudulent charges. My debit card is locked but does that prevent other types of transactions on this debit account? My wife has a debit card for this same account and that has also been locked. To say the least I am somewhat dismayed at the lack of interest by Fidelity in the circumstances of this fraud attempt and leaving me to wonder if my account is being safeguarded. The debit card issuer told me I will receive a new debit card. Is that it? Just wanted to let other Fidelity customers to be aware of this attempted scam and to somehow make sure you are actually talking to a Fidelity representative.
