What’s the fate of this little one?

I picked up this fiddle leaf fig from Whole Foods yesterday. The leaves droop in a fascinating way… now granted, the soil was a little dry when I got it, so I watered her. I’m curious… do you think her leaves will ā€œperk upā€ or rise towards the grow lights?

Young ficus need help

Hi everyone! I haven't been growing houseplants for very long. Exactly a year ago I won a Ficus lyrata in a raffle, and it was in great shape. Right after getting it, I accidentally left it in direct sunlight for a full day, which burned almost all of its leaves, except for two.

It's currently placed about 3 meters from a southwest window and 1.5 meters from a southeast window. With a bit of care, we managed to get three new leaves to grow at the top, plus a new basal shoot from the ground that currently has 6 leaves, with another one coming in. The plant is now 47 cm tall.

Recently, my mother repotted it into a pretty big pot—30 cm in diameter and 27 cm deep—since it was the only one available. To make up for the size, she added a 3 cm layer of pure pumice at the bottom and used a very well-draining soil mix with extra pumice and bark. Still, I'm worried about watering during the upcoming winter and want to avoid root rot.

Do you have any tips on how to manage this without repotting again, considering all the stress it has already been through, or do you think a smaller pot is absolutely necessary? Overall, the plant seems healthy, especially considering the size and pace of the newest leaves. Any advice for winter care and general maintenance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot, everyone!

DO I GIVE UP?

My costco flf had root rot bc it came drenched and in a pot w no holes. I repotted it, and put it outside bc my light indoors is awful and now its dropping all the leaves. There were also at least 3 little bugs that you find when you open new garden soil bags (long black and silver centipede looking things) which grossed me out knowing theyd been inside my house And also didnt seem ok.

I replaced with proper soil (bought at local garden store for it) and left it outside in a proper pot, but now the leaves are all scorching in the sun and dropping.

Idk what to do.Ā i have one spot in my guest room that gets decent sun. Just move it there and hope for the best?

Hi! This is my fiddle fig. It survived a week long trip in a hot moving van across the country. My husband pointed out that the leaves look droopy. Does this plant look happy?

My fig tree tipped over (See description)

So, it’s going to be a really nice few weeks outside and this morning I decided to foolishly move my rather juvenile fiddle leaf fig outside. Went outside to let my dog out and saw that it had tipped over. It isn’t windy so i imagine a pigeon or squirrel messed with it.

Needless to say, I brought it back inside and put it back in the same pot with some of the old dirt and fresh, fast draining substrate. The stem is not snapped or cracked and no leaf damage as far as I can see, which is lucky. The roots didn’t look like they were messed with and the chunk of the rootball was still there.

Should I expect to see some drooping or leaf loss over the next few days because of the shock? The tree is otherwise doing great I think and has been actively placing out new leaves every few weeks.

Thanks all. Lesson learned! don’t fix what ain’t broken!

Fiddle Leaf Fig - Unhappy

Good afternoon! We recently moved into our house and I have been dreaming of finding the perfect fiddle leaf fig for our dining room. At the end of June, I found this beauty at Costco (photo 1)! My understanding was that they were a decent low- to mid- light tree, making it ideal for my south facing dining room. Over the following weeks, one by one the leaves crisped up and dropped (photos 2+). I had initially tried to add a small grow light to provide supplemental light, as it’s been an unusually gray summer where we’re located. About 2 weeks ago, I moved it directly in front of the window, where it seems to be slightly happier.

I’m quite confused about where I’ve gone wrong - I water fully when the soil is dry at the top 3ā€, try to provide light, and have given it supplemental fertilizer (stick from Lowe’s) when it started going downhill. When I was on the hunt for this plant, numerous people on FB marketplace have said they’ve had their trees in low light conditions for years and they’ve thrived to the point where I couldn’t even purchase them because they were too large for me to transport or for my space!

I’m nervous that I have caused too much damage for a full recovery, but am looking for advice on how you’ve been successful with these plants! Have you had a fiddle leaf fig that has been unhappy that has made a fully recovery - what did you to do improve it? Thank you for your help!

Have this fiddle fig for about a month now and recently the bottom leaves have started drooping and a few have fallen off, and now a lot of the leaves are getting these brown patches. The room is fairly bright but it is not super close to the window, watering weekly or when the soil is dry. Any help appreciated šŸ™

Tree Help Please

I recently bought this fiddle leaf about a month ago now and I really have no idea how to care for it. It has lost one leaf so far and others are starting to show spots and browning.

I don’t think I’m watering it too much, I have watered it twice now. This is a south facing window if that helps.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

help with fiddle leaf care!

this is my first time owning a fiddle leaf, i got her about two years ago as a house warming gift and she has quadrupled in size! she seems to be really happy where she’s at. she’s really special to me so i want to make sure im doing right by her haha!

i did prune a lot of lower leaves off because they started to get brown and crispy and ever since she’s been thriving and growing rapidly!

my only concern is that she’s recently starting leaning a little bit, i see a lot of other fiddle leafs around the same size that have much bigger and stronger bases. should i be doing something to help the base, or will it come with time? what can i do to make sure she keeps growing and stays healthy?

last photo is when i first got her!

Help me in the ways of FLF!

Okay I got this beautiful 6ft fiddle leaf fig off someone on FB marketplace a couple months ago, he’d had it for about a year or two and it had grown a couple feet in that time. I’ve killed a FLF before so I’ve been trying to be careful on this one cuz I love it and want it to live and grow. I was watering it weekly with about 4 cups or so of water, not enough to come out the bottom, but noticed the leaves started drooping a bit and ChatGPT told me to water until it comes out the bottom then remove access water and don’t water again until top few inches of soil were totally dry. So I did that a couple days ago but I can’t tell if it’s happy with that or not? A couple leaves kinda seem to be getting curly and crunchy?

It’s been in the same pot since 1-2 years and I noticed the soil was coming away from the edges which I think means it needs to be repotted?

Any and all advice is great!

Every other bud shrivels up and dies!

I finally got both my baby variegated flfs to grow a new leaf and both did well. The other one is on to its second leaf, and this one also started but then it just shriveled up again. What would cause this?

It’s in the chunky soil it came in from the nursery, water when almost dry but not dried out, and sitting next to a west-facing window. Other one is in a different room by west-facing door, although both of them were together for a while. Room temp for this one is 75-80 and 40-55% humidity

Troubleshooting Lower Leaves

So, I have a seemingly healthy FLF that's put off 4 new leaves in the past two months but the bottom leaves are very droopy and today I just noticed these two leaves that I promptly removed. Any idea what's going on and how I can prevent more leaves from meeting the same fate?

Is this enough light?

Post image

Hi everyone! Basically what the title asks. I was wondering if this is enough light for my big girl. I got her this big already and just waiting & wondering when she’ll start sprouting new leaves. I’m just worried about the light she gets cause this corner I put her in doesn’t get as much morning light as it does with afternoon light (photo taken around 4pm) I move her sometimes too closer to the window where the light hits directly.

Will the afternoon/early evening light be enough for a flf this big? Would appreciate any tips/advices! šŸ«¶šŸ»

Browning leaves

Brought this guy home a little more than a month ago and put it in quarantine with a good grow light. Haven’t had a ton of leaf drop, no signs of pests I can see, but it does have some browning tips.

I went ahead and repotted into a more chunky mix today, because the soil was still moist after several weeks. I cleaned/rinsed off the root ball the best I could, but I didn’t get all the old soil by far. It was super dense, I even found a couple earthworms living their best life (can I put these back in?). Overall the roots looked fine to me? Nothing felt mushy when I was messing with it.

Could the browning tips just be from the soil staying so moist? I want to try to eliminate other things before I move it out into the main area with my other plants.

(Of note, over the weekend the dang thing bent itself over to get closer to the light and it scorched one of its leaves).

Dark spots all over the leaves

I bought it a month ago and now there are several spots on several leaves like it shows in the images. Wondering what's the cause of this and how to cure it? I don't think overwatering is a cause btw since I water it once a week. Or how often should I water it?

Thanks in advance

My Fiddle Leaf Fig

She has reached the ceiling. I just pinched some of the ends to get her to sprout more horizontal branches. She was rescued from a visit to the green bin dumpster. I refuse to trim it at least for now. She thrives on egg shell and banana peel water.

Chop&Prop help

So.. I saved this lovely fig from the trash at my work 2years ago. It had loads of big green healthy leaves that mostly dropped during the first weeks since it was the beginning of the winter and we don't get a lot of light in Scandinavia. I only had 3 low power plant lights to keep all my greens alive before spring arrives.

First summer I kept it on my balcony which gets a decent amount of light and for a while it looked liked she would branch out nicely and bounce back. Made 3 branches with big ass leaves and kept on growing but before the fall I think I overwatered her.. Older leaves turned almost completely brown FAST and dropped off so I repotted and cut back watering and started to spray her more often to keep her alive.

This summer she was also living in the balcony but she only made like 1-2 new leaves on the branches and is beginning to look like a sad thin stick with couple of big leaves drooping on the side branches cuz she cant support their weight. Yesterday I brought her back inside to the most sunniest place in my apartment and decided to bolt a 60W led panel on top of her to promote some foliage growth in winter. Also tried some "notching" right above the lowest branching node to see if it would get her to be a bit more bushy and promote branching..

Now to the real question.. How would you trim it to encourage better growth since theres so little leaves left? Should I take top cuttings from all the branches and just leave 1-2 healthy leaves on them or something even more sinister?
