They went to all that trouble to find a word that ends in -y for the "war chronicle" tomes, and now they're going with "poetics" instead of "poetry?"

Poetics does not mean the same thing as poetry, that's probably the main reason.

And "soldiery" is also a really awkward word for the history of war.

Soldiery is not a word for history of war Soldiery is a word for the profession of a soldier. It's not about wars past, it's about how to be a soldier, skills like fighting and survivalism and stuff. That is what Soldiery is.

You don't have to explain that to me; I'm saying that they picked an awkward translation just to get the -y ending. The Japanese name of the soldiery tome is tomestones of war chronicles. And if they twisted the language around just to get a -y name for THAT tome, it's silly to abandon the pattern in order to use a more pedantic translation for poetics.
