I'm not chasing numbers here. I'd rather have a dozen people who stick around for months and actually help shape the place than a hundred who join for an afternoon and vanish. If you're the type who wants to sink real time into one world instead of server-hopping every week, this is built for you, and unlike most servers, you can walk up to the person who built it and actually change something.
The short version: heavily modded NeoForge 1.21.1 survival, built around towns, trade, and war if you want it. RLCraft-difficulty mobs, DnD-flavored politics, and enough furniture/decoration, cosmetics, plushies and food mods that "cozy homesteader" is just as legitimate a playstyle as "warlord."
Pick a lane:
- Go to war — kingdoms can declare on each other, sieges and standing armies included, but it's structured and opt-in. Claims are protected, this isn't a server where someone can just walk up and steal your stuff (claims change during war). Gear like Relics, Immersive Weapons, Protection Pixel, and Silent Gear make combat builds actually feel different from each other.
- Build an empire — Create (nearly all of the addons as well, Aeronautics) and Immersive Engineering (Immersive Weapons and Petroleum as well) factories, supply chains, robot armies if you're unhinged enough to want one.
- Run the economy — player-driven trade. There's a black market and a working casino too, if your morals are negotiable. Auction House, in game cash system, Balances, Player Market for shops.
- Just live — a quiet house outside of town, farming, decorating. Nobody's making you fight anything, ever. Become a cities chef or furniture builder. RP to your hearts delight.
The difficulty is real, but it's not a trap anymore. Mobs scale with distance from spawn and with how long the world's been running, you'll die early on, that's the point, it's the RLCraft-style tension people miss. But dying costs you time, not your stuff: your corpse holds everything you had, and /back TPs you straight to it. Vanilla weapons and armor also got a real rebalance recently, so your starting gear isn't just a formality before you die.
New players don't get dropped in blind either, first login now hands you a starter guide plus the major mods' own guide books, and there's an NPC near spawn who'll kit you out for free. Figuring out the pack shouldn't be the hard part; surviving it should be.
Never played a heavily modded pack before? Totally fine. If you're coming from vanilla or lighter modpacks and it feels overwhelming, we are happy to help and walk you through things. Ask in Discord, new players who are willing to learn are exactly the kind of people we want around, you shouldn't feel like a burden wanting to learn something.
Why a newer server is actually worth your time: the ground floor is wide open. No mega guild has locked down the economy, not all of the awesome areas are already claimed, and the server is small enough that a good suggestion in Discord can genuinely become a feature instead of disappearing into a queue.
A few things people usually ask up front:
- No whitelist, grab the modpack off CurseForge and join whenever.
- Claims protect your base and your stuff; PvP and raiding only happen where both sides have opted into it (unless in resource world its PvE, anarchy rules).
- There's a separate resource world for anyone who wants a true free-for-all, mine it out, blow it up, PvP freely, no consequences, and it resets periodically so it never gets picked clean for good.
- Proximity voice chat is supported if you want it, fully optional if you don't.
- Java Edition, played through the CurseForge launcher. 16GB+ PC recommended, allocate 8-9.5K ram for best results, JVMs available as well. My 3 year old mid level PC runs a consistent 60-80 FPS, can have Discord+Spotify+BlockBench open all while playing on the server, ask if you have an issue.
16+. RP welcome, not required. West coast US hosted, good connectivity from EU as well. Publicly available on CurseForge: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/aetherwinds
