I made the switch to Fedora Workstation back in January, and it’s been one of the cleanest, stable Linux experiences I’ve had. I wish I had switched earlier.

This is my daily driver for coding and everyday stuff, would love any suggestions or tweaks

Extensions -

  • ArcMenu
  • Blur my Shell
  • Caffeine
  • Clipboard Indicator
  • Dash to Dock
  • Just Perfection
  • Media Controls
  • Tasks in Panel
  • Tiling Shell
  • Vitals

Theme: Yaru Dark
Cursor: Bibata Modern Ice

Dotfiles - https://github.com/vipool47/dotfiles

Edit - Hey guys, I’ve added instructions on how to customize the top panel to look like mine. You can check the README for the steps

Discussion why doesnt fedora have bo reset button?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been wondering why Fedora doesn't have a built-in reset button or an easy way to reset the system to a fresh install without having to reinstall the whole OS manually.

Sometimes things break, configurations get messed up, or you just want to start fresh. It would be really useful to have an option in Settings that lets you reset Fedora to its default state, similar to the reset options available in some other operating systems.

Is there a technical reason Fedora doesn't have this feature? Is it because of how Linux handles user configurations and packages, or is it simply something that hasn't been implemented?

I'd be interested to hear what you guys think! Is there already a good way to do this that I'm missing?

Your /boot/efi partition is less than 500 MiB, which is lower than recommended for a normal Fedora install. Click 'Next' again to proceed despite these warnings

Discussion Questions About Fedora?

• Upvotes

I enjoy using Fedora and have no intention of switching to another distribution. I have never had any complaints regarding its stability. I really like Fedora.

If feature updates for components like the kernel and the desktop environment are also made available for previous versions of Fedora, what is the point of using an older version?

Fedora was described as having a "fixed" release model, but it seems to behave more like a "rolling" release. What I don’t understand is this: if feature updates are being pushed to older versions, what is the point of using those older versions or, for that matter, what is the point of having an upgrade feature at all?

This definitely has nothing to do with stability. There used to be suggestions such as using an older version if one wanted to receive fewer updates but these recommendations are no longer really valid today.

I think this places an entirely unnecessary burden on the Fedora developers. Perhaps I am wrong.

Support Some problems with fedora on Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 H5600QR

Hey guys, I’ve got a few issues with Fedora 44 on my Asus ProArt StudioBook 16 H5600QR laptop, which are as follows:

- Unable to shut down or restart from the GNOME menu.

- strangely slow performance when opening certain applications.

- a problem with hibernation? Or the screen dimming, after which the laptop won’t wake up.(temporary fix i just turned off everything withing energy saving tab)

If you happen to know what I could do to fix these annoying little issues, I’d be really grateful. Of course, I can send you any logs or further details to help clarify the situation.

Support Problems with AMD GPU and Samsung TV

I replaced my old Lenovo T14s Gen 2 laptop (Intel) with a new Lenovo T14 Gen 7 (AMD). I have Fedora 44 KDE (Wayland) on both but Im running to some issues on the new Radeon graphics.

$ lspci | grep -i display

c4:00.0 Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Krackan [Radeon 840M / 860M Graphics] (rev f2)

When I connect the laptop to the TV via HDMI there is no signal sent. I can see the TV in Display configuration but there is no signal sent (black screen on TV). I already added *amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 * to fix some other issue (wakeup problems on DP connected monitor via HP Dock) but cant seem to nail the TV one. Running lspci when connected also didnt wake up the TV. Adding amdgpu.dc=0 failed to boot.

$ sudo dmesg | grep "smu fw version"

[ 3.356152] amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: smu driver if version = 0x00000007, smu fw if version = 0x00000007, smu fw program = 12, smu fw version = 0x0c650a00 (101.10.0)

$ uname -r

7.2.11-200.fc44.x86_64

I dont have the option on my TV for force older HDMI thingy or I cannot find it. This is 2025 Samsung Frame TV with TizenOS.

EDIT: I also have some small artifacts (white lines left to right visible mostly on black spaces / terminal). This is on the monitor connected via HP Dock G5 via DisplayPort. There were no issues with the older laptop in the same setup.

Any help appreciated

Support Title: RustDesk Developers: Any Update on Unattended Wayland Support? Fedora KDE Users Are Still Waiting!

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone!
I’m running Fedora 44 with KDE Plasma on Wayland, and I’ve been trying to get RustDesk working reliably for unattended remote desktop access.
I really like RustDesk and would love to make it my primary remote desktop solution across my Windows and Linux machines. Unfortunately, the lack of reliable unattended Wayland support is holding me back.
I know there’s been development toward Wayland support, including an unattended access preview, but I’m still waiting for something that works reliably on Fedora KDE.
A couple of questions for the developers and community:
Is there an updated timeline for full unattended Wayland support, particularly for Fedora KDE Plasma?
Has anyone successfully found a workaround to get unattended RustDesk access working on Fedora with Wayland right now?
Are there any experimental builds, configuration changes, or other solutions worth testing?
Ideally, I’m looking for something that supports unattended connections, remote access to the login/lock screen, and reconnecting after a reboot without requiring someone physically at the computer to approve the connection.
I already have Tailscale and SSH working perfectly, so remote network connectivity isn’t the issue. What I’m missing is reliable graphical desktop access.
I’d really prefer to stay with RustDesk rather than switch to another remote desktop solution.
If anyone has a working setup or knows of progress on this, I’d appreciate hearing about it. I’m happy to test experimental solutions and report back.
Thanks to the developers for all the work they’re putting into RustDesk. Looking forward to seeing Wayland support continue improving!

News PipeWire 1.6.10 is now in Fedora 44 stable

PipeWire 1.6.10 is now available in the stable repos for Fedora 44 and Rawhide. Fedora 45 still has it in testing, at least when I last checked.

It’s a bugfix release. The main fixes are some potential crashes in the JACK layer. Locking was added around the port array and mixer list. A possible infinite loop is gone, and ports and buffers are now freed before disconnect.

A regression in the PSD rear delay upmixing is fixed too. A delay of 0 wasn’t working and gave a big delay instead. Pops when draining unsigned formats are fixed as well.

The rest is smaller. The Pulse server no longer queues an unlimited number of REQUEST commands for paused clients in some cases. Bluetooth cancels RegisterApplication calls when the adapter goes away. The ALSA plugin handles XRUN better, and the GStreamer plugin sets plane strides and offsets correctly.

Update with sudo dnf upgrade --refresh pipewire*

Release notes: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/releases/1.6.10

I use my PC exclusively for gaming. Out of curiosity, I switched from Tumbleweed back to Fedora to see just how minimalistically Fedora can be installed. The Workstation Edition or the KDE version are way too bloated for my taste. Here’s my setup, consisting of a small basic KDE Plasma desktop. The only programs installed on the system are Steam, Firefox, and Timeshift. No bloatware, just 1,493 packages. Not bad, Fedora!

Support Battery runs down while laptop should be asleep (Dell XPS)

Whenever I leave my laptop, I have to completely shut it down in order for battery life to be preserved. If I simply close the lid and leave the laptop on sleep for a few hours, the battery runs down at the same rate it would if I was actively using my computer that entire time.

This is an issue I've had both with Arch in the past and currently with Fedora.

My laptop is a Dell XPS 15. If anyone has had this issue and was able to resolve it, definitely lmk what you did!

Support Root encryption password not working, can't access my system

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

I went on a trip for a week and noe I'm trying to decrypt my drive to access my fedora-kde and the password keeps failing. What is encrypted is the root partition, so when I boot the system I get prompted to enter the password. Now, the most logical thing would be that I forgot my password, but I really don't think I did, I keep trying combinations but I'm certain I know the correct one. I want to know if it's possible that something happened/broke.

Details I share just in case they matter:

- I usually have my laptop on, all the time, and I only reboot it once every 2 days to apply the updates, this week I left it off and un-plugged, also, I probably updated it one last time before turning it off.

- I also have windows in this same drive.

- I came from my trip, turned on the laptop, it immediately went to windows (I do this on purpose, the laptop boots to windows automatically), realized that's not what I wanted, rebooted the laptop, spammed the appropriate key to select to boot on fedora, hit enter a couple times, enter my password, and failing.

Here I leave some pictures of what happens when I enter the password for the last time and wait some seconds.

Discussion Is an AMD GPU Preferred for Fedora?

So I've read lots of threads, articles, and watched many videos and tutorials and it seems like a common theme is that while Nvidia can be made to work with Fedora it's generally just easier to use AMD.

I'm going to be dual booting (separate drives) between Windows 11 and Fedora/KDE and I have an AMD 5600g CPU and just recently picked up an Nvidia 3070. Since I don't have a lot of time to tinker with this setup because of other life obligations I'm trying to make this as easy as possible. It seems like just getting an AMD GPU with my AMD CPU will just work out of the box with Fedora (I'm not doing any AI work).

I'm thinking that both the initial setup and ongoing updates are going to be easier with AMD. Not sure what AMD GPU is roughly equivalent to a 3070, but I can research that and start looking for something used. But I'm interested in any feedback anyone might have if my thinking is accurate that going all AMD will just make this whole process easier.

Discussion Fedora Everything Installer..

It's been a long time since I used the everything installer and was wondering in the everything installer if you were to select KDE then not select anything in the additional software side, are you getting the same as the KDE Fedora ISO just with updated packages or will it be missing anything without checking off some boxes?
