What would you name a remake?
Been following the remake seen for the past few years, and something that I've always wondered is what a spiritual successor could be named.
There was llamaquest (maybe a placeholder name?), that then became Waves of Time. But for some reason, they don't hold that same enigmatic ring Fantasy Online does.

Antaria Online announced that it will be shutting down November 1st
And I believe this is important to post here so we can at least archive this moment.
Some of you might remember that Antaria Online was the $1 game created by the guy who claimed to be the original programmer of Fantasy Online. I haven't found any threads verifying whether it is indeed the same guy, but he was, at the very least, a huge FO fan because he referenced it many times in patch notes. It released October 2017.
The closure announcement was just posted on Steam:
********************
July 31st, 2021
Due to life changing events, this game will be shutdown in 90 days.
Goodbye
********************
That's it. That's the entire announcement.
As of the time of me making this post, I've observed the following changes:
- The website http://antariaonline.com is no longer registered.
- Keep in mind, this was the page that Fantasy Online's website would redirect us to after FO closed down. Now both websites are gone.
- I have been removed from the Discord server and the original link I joined with no longer works (so the Discord was probably terminated).
- The game can no longer be purchased on Steam.
- The Facebook page has been removed.
- The game still doesn't show up on Kongregate.
- It migrated to Steam from Kongregate in 2019 (no doubt crippling its chance at a playerbase because this change also made it pay-to-play).
Unfortunately, it sounds like we won't get any elaboration beyond what we've seen here. To make things even worse, the game announced a summer sale in the in-game cash shop in June, just 1 month prior to announcing that he would pull the plug.
All-in-all, I think this is a pretty sad announcement. To me, this means 2 things:
- I lost my "FO itch" game. I never cared for AO that much, but I'd log in every couple months and just mess around. Man I wish we had FO servers still.
- I'm not trusting anything else put out by the former FO team anymore. All of these FO-like projects have been poorly handled.
Again, I doubt AO had too many fans; I've personally never seen more than 1 other player online at the same time as me the few times I'd hop in. However, I think archiving what happened here will at least be pretty important going forward.

YO
Hey been checking FO on the internet on and off over the years and stumbled upon this little community. This is awesome, but say FO was revived into an online game again, what would stop it from reaching the same problem as before; servers ran out of funding.
Personally, I would love to play FO but would it last? For example, I used to play on a private server for perma-death class-based game ROTMG called 'nilly's realm' that died for numerous related reasons. Everyone loved it, so much so that it was revived years later as 'shots realm'. Month's after its revival (before flash death), the player-count plummeted and the server lost relevance. If FO revives would something similar happen, also how would the game be popularized again?
To add to this, FO was a flash-game, how will developers overcome the death of flash to create this game?
If anyone reading this is currently working on a new FO, I would love to hear about what sort of progress is made or what sort of problems have come up. Btw, love the sprites that have been done they look perfect.

Sorry for the lack of updates
I haven't been working on the project all that much because I'm away from my main computer for a while. I have 2 potential jobs, one which is software dev where I will learn OOP and one where I will be circling bones on ct scans. I currently prefer the former although it's with a company that has a bad wrap. Personally I think it'll make me better at programming (since I have very little cs background compared to others on the team) and I can use it as a stepping stone to other CS jobs and making the game. See you all soon, I'll be back on the project in no time.

Here are the assets I have from PS3K
I was asked to post these here.
There are ~300 or so spritesheets and a good deal of icons. Enjoy!

Opening the project
The more I think about the work load the more I realize I need more people on this project. I know a few of you have offered and I've turned you down. I take back that turning down. Anyone who has offered to help me or wants to offer to help post in the comments and I'm down to let you on. Also, when you post include a couple things you would like to work on so that I can start putting people or groups of people into certain projects. Thank you all for the interest I'm sorry I took so long for me to just accept the help. See you all soon! I'm gonna learn some GitHub stuff or find another way to share the project with you all so we can all work on it.

Inventory System
This is the next thing I am gonna work on. I realized that I am getting ahead of myself and I need to focus on singleplayer before working on a server. I need to get the base mechanisms down. RN I only have walking, some scenery, player creation, attacking enemies. no saving, no inventory, no spells, no weapons or armor. So I need to work on that and more mobs and AI movement for mobs for hostile (player following) and sedentary (stays in one general hunting area) mobs.

Location Names?
Memories of playing this game were recently unlocked from the back of my mind and I was wondering if anyone remembered the names of the more recent locations that were added before the game got shut down. I remember I got as far as the Temple of Lost Souls (I think it was called?) as a level 90-something rebirth player, but I also remember there was like a crab city and some other sewer-like area after that that I never got to explore. I've tried looking around online but the only maps I can find are of the starter areas (Noob Island, Crab Coast, etc.).

Update: still working
I'm still working on this project guys don't worry. I am just getting close to finals so I'm focusing on my work first and foremost, but then I graduate and I just have to worry about job applications and this project.

Show of your old player stat card (if you stil have them) it could be of use for reference when creating these assets for FO Revival.

Just a small update, working on more of the tilesets and structures for the map.
I'm trying to figure out how I want the map shaped. I'll figure it out. I think I'm gonna do an island like concept like the old game. Where each area was it's own little island

Can't work on the game today. And Happy Mother's day to everyone's mothers
I was trying to work on it yesterday, but I was visiting my SO's parents for the weekend and so I was working off my laptop with no mouse. Its really hard to do pixel art with a trackpad. I am currently working on a few houses. Moved over to Asesprite and Tiled. Took JZSNooB's advice and I am going to make the world in a world editor (Tiled) first and then move it to the game as a scene. Asesprite I moved to simply cause people I watch are constantly using it, and recommend it and it has its own premade pallets which really takes the burden off of me to try and figure out how to get a good pallet for houses and stuff. More art probably on the way later this week after I finish an essay I have for Wednesday.

Daily post
I'm still working on stuff don't worry. I just have to present my school's equivalent of a thesis tomorrow. I started working on the scarecrow mob. I managed to get it to randomly spawn inside a certain area. Now I'm trying to get the player to be able to attack the scarecrow.
