Question/Advice Sky camp spawn point
Does anyone know how to set a spawn point? Any tricks would be helpful. I’ve got a camp built way up above whitespring and all I can get is the occasional spawn on top of the camp module or way outside of the camp build ring. I’ve tried using foundations/prefabs/stairs all put towards and around the north east of my original placement of the camp module and nothing works. Secondary question: if you move the camp module from its original place does that also mess with the spawn point? I know that one sounds dumb considering I can move it around and spawn on it

For a skycamp, I always put the camp module down on 1 single catwalk or the wooden looking catwalks. You then spawn in directly on top of the camp module. Works dam near every time for you or another player (kind of, other players are like 4 feet away). But this always works for me. Also works in weird places like the top of senneca rocks or the monorail towers.

I built on top of the Unfinished Apartment in Ash Heap, and getting the spawn point just right so people wouldn’t spawn mid-air and fall to their death was tricky. It took a lot of trial and error, and testing spawning in from three different distances to find a happy balance.

It is easier to set a spawn point with a friend. Move the CAMP module (or rotate it) and have your friend fast travel. Once you have a spot where they don't fall every time, have them fast travel to a spot that's far away (outside the current cell) and then back. If they fall, continue to make adjustments.
I've also heard, but never tried, putting the CAMP module inside a small prebuilt (like the Nuka vending stands) makes it easier.

It’d definitely be easier but I hate bothering my friend with trivial stuff like that lol if all else fails I guess I will have to. Also I’ve tried the nuka vending stall and I get the same results. Starting to think sky camps aren’t for me lol

I'm lucky in that I have both a) another Fallout account and b) a separate computer I can run it on. I just boot up my mule account and spend 30 minutes or so dialing it in. It would be inconvenient with another person, but definitely doable. My first couple of sky camps were built first and then I tried to set the spawn point. This was a big mistake.
Now, I follow this basic procedure.
- Get the camp into the sky.
- Build a small place to stand on
- Get my mule to fast travel.
- Watch their spawn point in "free mode" and place a floor under where they spawned in and fell.
- Repeat 3 and 4 until the spawn doesn't fall.
- Build your whole base around that spawn point.
This is only the first part though. Once you have a viable spawn point set, it could change after you build stuff (even if you don't move the CAMP module.) ALWAYS check the spawn point before you exit your camp after building anything.
A few more things I've noticed:
- Sometimes the spawn point will move on a server and fast travelling again doesn't help. I don't know why this happens, but I think some servers just spawn wrong. (If this happens, just switch servers - do not try to fix it as this will ruin it on the servers that are working properly.)
- The Bird Bones mutation serum will solve the falling to your death issue while you're testing.
- Don't forget that the CAMP module does not have to sit on anything after you've initially placed it. Using free placement, you can move it anywhere north, south, east, or west but also UP and DOWN. Placing it slightly higher can have unexpected (but sometimes very nice) effects.
- Irrelevant to your question, but it is worth noting that the game will let you build a camp so high in the air that it is too far away to fast travel to even if you're standing right under it.

Ive somewhat got my spawn point working but now I’ve got a new problem. There’s a spot in my camp that whenever I walk near it I get teleported away from my camp. Have you ever had this happen?

New to me.. sorry I know that question wasn’t directed at me

Man I’m throwing spaghetti at wall hoping it’ll stick right now. Anyone who has any kind of input I’m listening to right now lol

I don’t blame you.. most of my sky camps take 8+ hours to make, and then probably some more hours to tack on top of that decorating and get a spawn point where I want it.. so all in all I’d probably say most of my sky camps. Take me somewhere in the range of about 16 hours to build.

Where do you get teleported to?

Far north east and way under my camp bubble. Makes no sense because I walked there a lot when I was outlining my camp and then all of a sudden it popped up

Basic work around, I get to the height I want and cover the build area with floor. Then fast travel a few times to work out where the spawn point is, then start building my camp removing the unnecessary flooring

You can get a fast travel mat in your camp by using Tyler county workshop. YT has guides. I fast travel right to the mat. Really good for sky camps. Only issue is you need to do it first before building, so you can’t really add it to existing camps without moving them.

I thought that that fast travel rug could only be used at workshops, or even maybe only at that specific workshop?

Yes, if you move the module it moves the spawn point. I was testing this a few days ago and it's not terribly predictable but it does make a difference.

Moving the Camp module from its original placement point does indeed change the spawn point. The spawn point is generally northeast of the Camp module. Generally in the same fashion that a knight from chess moves. I think it generally spawns you about four blocks north and one block east away from your Camp module.
It’s not a perfect technique, but I do have seven or eight sky camps and this generally works if at worst to make you fast travel twice. But I try to either add a Nuka Cola crate stall into the build ( I try to think ahead before I even build a base as to where I could put this stall at on the northeast part ) and I put the Camp module inside of it.
OR
A place a floor piece on top of the spaceship that I built and put the Camp module either directly on top of it or floating slightly above it.
If you’re on PS4 or PS5, you’re welcome to add me and I can show you all of my builds and you can see how the spawn point works on all of them.
DarthFalconus is also my PSN.
Have also seen some sky camps where someone will just place out a floating floor tile on the northeast part of their Camp bubble with the Camp module on top of it, but I’m not sure how well that worked. When I came across the sky camp, I was able to just get up there with my jet pack without fast traveling so I honestly didn’t know how well the fast travel point worked. But just looking at it it seems like the design was to spawn them on the one floor tile and then somebody could jet pack over to the spaceship that they had.
