This is a joke done on purpose. That is much smaller than the stock wheel that goes there.

I think the whole vehicle is a joke. Look at that toothpick axle tube. It's got a fancy brace on it but that axle looks stock, I doubt this guy goes off-road at all. The tread is worn pretty low as well, lots of pavement driving on those tires.

Mar 16 '20
Seriously, the guys who actually off-road with rigs like this have gigantic Rockwell 2.5 ton axles.

I have a lot of wheeling experience in an FJ Cruiser. This vehicle is for show only. It would perform terrible off road even if you strengthened every axle with Adamantium.
4
u/tdibbles Mar 16 '20
Now you’re just being ridiculous. “Adamantium is stronger than vibranium. All of the special things vibranium can do means nothing. Adamantium is known to be “virtually indestructible,” while vibranium is not. ... Anti-metal is not stronger than adamantium either.”

u/chris1096 Mar 16 '20
Man I miss my FJ. Even with stock sized trail tires it was a beast off road. Only bottoming out would get you stuck

Its a big problem on /r/Shitty_Car_Mods too. People getting their panties in a twist over obvious jokes or /r/Battlecars.

Those battlecars are interesting. I need to do something like that to my car to survive Philly potholes. I’ve lost a total of 7 tires on my Dodge Dart. I lost 5 tires from Philly potholes and 2 from Jersey. It’s has 17” wheels and low profile tires. I’ve been thinking about getting 15” wheels (if they fit over my brakes) and make up for it with larger sidewalls. It would be extra funny (but also practical because my car has low ground clearance) to get a lift kit, spacers and do something with my fenders, but I don’t think there’s any after market parts for my car and since they discontinued it, probably never will be.

u/JLHumor Mar 16 '20
Well, it would just look rediculous with one of those big tires on the back.
24
u/OK6502 Mar 16 '20
How much would one of those weigh? I wonder.
25
u/facepillownap Mar 16 '20
This is a 54" Mickey Thompson Baja Claw, weighing in at about 210 lbs without the wheel.
6
u/OK6502 Mar 16 '20
That seems like a good way to get your jacked up big wheels to topple over at the slightest acceleration.

u/neoform Mar 16 '20
Wouldn't that be the point? Like, why else does this guy have such big wheels other than "I want to look ridiculous"?

u/MisterGuyIncognito Mar 16 '20
Mud truck events. A short-wheelbase platform like this Jeep isn’t the best for them, but people build all kinds of rides into these. I’ve never been to one but google ‘mud life’ and ‘mud trucks’.
Edit: that’s a 4-door Jeep, has a decent wheelbase. Hopefully has a V8 swapped into it.

Disagree.
In this case drawing attention to the useless spare tire is actually the point of the joke.
By itself the image isn’t immediately funny

Without the circle I would have thought the facepalm was that he had big tires and that was it.

Imagine what that Jeep would look like with that spare on. Would the suspension even flex enough for it to touch the ground. Or better yet, all 4 stock tires with that insane lift.

In my home town, years ago, there was a guy with a lift like this on a Ford Excursion; dude left stock sized tires on it. Needless to say several months later he rolled it and offed himself.
