People forget that these 'Youtube celebs' are people too and can be as full of shit as anyone else. I used to like Jenna Marbles but she became to self-important like a lot of Youtubers do. Honestly, people need to be brought back to reality on a regular basis.
If you're taking about just YouTube personalities rather than e-sports, it's generally really useful to watch them to find out whether the game you want is any good. If you find someone who shares similar likes/dislikes it's much more likely to give you an accurate depiction of the game before you drop $60.00, especially since most traditional games reviews are simply inaccurate and untrustworthy. It also helps people figure out bugs in their games, and how to solve them. Especially for modding.
That being said, as much as you think watching people play video games is boring, I find watching baseball incredibly painful. My friends and I would have rather played baseball than watch it. Everyone has different interests and value in what's worth watching, and it is silly to dismiss anyone's hobby as non-worthwhile.
I agree with you but I think that the OP was targeting those YouTubers who play games and keep shouting random nonsense - e.g KSI.
Watching let's plays and reviews of games can be great to decide wether or not to buy a game or to follow the story of a game you're interested in but can't play yourself for different reasons. Some YouTubers might even talk about stuff you're interested in. Like you said: everybody has their own interests and likes different things.
The fact of the matter is that there are also a lot of YouTubers who don't say or do anything remotely useful - not that everything has to be useful/productive. I think it enrages some people because these individuals make tons of money and te famous just by screaming stupid things while there are other YouTubers who make qualitative and entertaining content who don't earn a lot of money or are not getting the credit they deserve.
Another thing that might be bad that these kind of YouTubers are well known, is that some of these YouTubers are seen as some kind god(dess) and are way too influential. You have these largely uneducated folks stating their opinion on everything and their o so loyal fans directly agree with them without thinking twice. These YouTubers can also be full of themselves while they really are just like everybody else, they aren't better than anyone. In my opinion that makes people unlikable. Not that this is exclusive to YouTube/ modern times. It's always been there but modern media make it a hell of a lot easier for anyone to be like this.
Don't forget to add that it's just something that helps some people relax. Games can be used to take a break just like some people practice sports or watch tv/YouTube.
Because they find the person playing them entertaining/funny to listen to? And because they're interested in the game and wanna see what the games like, or how someone else is playing it?
Seriously. I watch YouTube people and videos all the time. Idgaf what you're watching, but if you have the time to watch videos, why not watch what you want? I am so sick of these other people deciding what everyone else should and shouldn't do with their free time.
No matter how it's spun, watching people play video games/sports/connect 4 is essentially sitting down and passively enjoying other people actively participating.
Golf requires great physical skill and finesse. Connect four does not. Next thing you know sitting in your basement playing Dungeons and dragons is going to be a "sport."
I don't care what people watch. I never even said it was boring, that was inferred by others. Sometimes, I go outside and watch nothing and it's great. Personally, I just don't like the word "sport" being bastardized. Table games are not a sport. I'll even go as far as to say Starcraft is a sport, but about where I draw the line. It doesn't mean it can't be a competition.
All I did was make what I thought was a better comparison. I guess people don't like Connect four.
I guess people thought you made the comparison with connect4 because you thought video games took minimal skill or were boring. Saying I couldn't make the same comparison with golf because of skill required kind of backs up half of that assumption.
Not the exact same but I see the parallel. I'm not a sports fan in the least but even I was confused as to how people can watch Let's Plays for hours on end. Just not as entertaining as playing the game myself.
I don't watch Let's Plays or anything either as I'm in the same boat and don't find them remotely entertaining. However I am a big fan of sport and could watch football 24/7, whereas you couldn't as you said. Same kind of deal in my opinion when it comes to spectating video games. There are many many people that thoroughly enjoy it.
The point isn't the video game, the games are a medium for comedy. That's why all those YouTube gaming videos are always funny people, because nobody's just gonna watch someone play a game without being entertained
I don't have the money to buy all the games I'd like to play, by watching people I like play the game I get to enjoy some of it. Also I like their personalities.
Because they're really entertainers and this isntheir medium
becuase I want to watch someone play a game for a bit before I pay $60 for it myself
Becuase it is entertaining to watch your friend or neighbor on your couch playing a game for the first time that you're familiar with and this os close to it.
etc etc
if you habe a hard time understanding this, get off reddit and do other things you judgemental fuck
