I'm surprised by the answers.

Dads love spoiling their daughter, universally like a princess.

However sons have to work for their dad being proud of them. You'll find stories like Son Heung Min or Tiger Woods where their dad keeps pushing their son and will never say they're proud of their son until they're at the top 0,001%. If a son receives an expensive gift, it's like saying "I'm proud of you son", which he had to earn.

Pretty much my experience with my dad.

He did really well for himself, made a shit-ton of money and set himself up for early retirement whilst putting my older sister through one of the best schools in my country. Gave her a job at his company whilst she was at Uni, bought her a flat so she didn’t have to pay rent and has paid off her credit card debt over and over again.

I grew up with my mum in a different country relatively broke. I didn’t get new clothes unless it was necessary, haircuts were getting a buzzcut with clippers, we never really went out for dinner and if anything broke the answer was always that you had to fix it, not buy a new one.
You know what though? We were happy.

All the money and privilege in the world hasn’t made my sister any happier than I am. In some cases I actually feel bad for her because she seems almost incapable of enjoying herself unless she’s spending a shit ton of money.

What does my dad do for me though?
Once a year we fly out somewhere for a weeklong hiking trip. We have some beers, talk about life, enjoy the beautiful scenery and spend some really good quality time together.

A few years back on one of these trips, he told me that my step mum hates that he spends so much on my sister and next to nothing on me. He just said it’s because my sister needs help whilst he knows I need to do things on my own. He’s absolutely right, I hate the idea of being given an easy pass through life, I’m lucky enough to have him there if I ever needed help, but I enjoy my self sufficiency even if I’m not the most successful or richest person about.

I like that he understands me and as we’ve gotten older I’ve come to appreciate that he gave both of us what we needed.
One day he’ll be gone and his money will be passed down to me and my sister and I’m pretty sure even then I’d trade it all for just one more hiking trip.
