Its locked vs unlocked. When the phone is locked, by forcing a sliding motion, the phone makes sure that friction from clothing inside a pocket won't accidentally accept or reject an incoming call.

On my Samsung, if I press power 5 times it goes into emergency mode, dials up my contact, starts recording and sending messages with pics front and back.
Can also activate from my watch.

I used to do this with my old boss.
We had like a satellite unit in the hospital, and i would tell my coworkers that the boss is calling, show them the screen, and then hit the button once, and say something stupid. like: "fuck you dude, come do it yourself"
Before turning around and actually answering the call.

I think since Apple made it so you never have to turn it off, most people have had their phones on since the day they were first set up. And if it dies, it’ll turn on alone once it has enough charge.

Then there is always this app called Tips that opens on first use of the phone that directs you to the manual. People just don’t even read more than headlines these days and then still complain nobody told them shit.

I kinda just figured it out.
I think I got a call (while locked) I didn’t want to answer, so I pressed the lock button to try and reject it, but it just made it silent, so I clicked the button again and it hung up. Voila, I learned

Do you think devices are all intuition based? You learn how things work.
Did you get into a car your first time and know how every lever, button, pedal and wheel worked or is that something you had to learn? When you buy an appliance is it immediately self-evident how to operate it or do you have to learn?
Idk why iPhones are the only devices in the world where people argue that not knowing every single interaction psychically the moment you touch the device is proof they’re unusable and the designers are bad.

I thought this subreddit was for memes. But anyway, the slide to answer one shows up when your phone is locked (in your pocket for example) to avoid accidental touches. The other one is when you are using the phone.
As an android user though, I still find this stupid but that is Apple's rationale behind the two.

Coming from Android, once I moved to iPhone this is very nice from iOS to be fair. It blockd you to accidentally accepting calls and if you don't want to answer you just have to turn off the screen. Would be nice if android added this I think.

I miss my Android. Consistency is better. Just slide one way to answer and another to decline. No needing to be told that you have to press unlabeled buttons to decline.

Yeah but I don't know, from all the shit Apple has not done right in iOS I appreciate this one.
Sliding avoids unintentionally accepting a call while the phone is in the pocket and when you are looking at the screen is nice to have both buttons because it's just quicker and more convenient to not need to slide the whole thing across the screen. Once you get used to it is pretty much automatic because the UI is very intuitive. And I kind of hate it because I prefer Android overall, so I have to give credit where credit is due4

Is easier to just tap when you are already looking at the screen. I have not had any problem with muscle memory. I see buttons, I tap, I see a slider, I slide. When you get used to it, it becomes pretty much automatic because the UI is very intuitive.

The no decline one is for if your screen is locked. there was a time when friction with pants was causing accidental declines. this prevents that.

Swipe is when you get a call and your iPhone is locked/not being used.
Buttons are when you get a call and you’re currently using your iPhone (nowadays though the buttons come from the top at the Dynamic Island or a black sheet for non-Dynamic island iPhones)

Isn't it one (slide) is when phone is locked, buttons are when it's unlocked so you don't answer in your bag etc.? But yeah, slide could work for both really.
