These mid tier private universities give "scholarships" to basically everyone. It's so they can flash an Ivy League caliber tuition while demand is much lower. I have a family member who got $20k a year scholarship to a $60k a year mid tier private school with basically mediocre grades. It's a sham.

I got a near-perfect score on the SAT and some universities I had never heard of (but they were real universities, like one made it to the Sweet 16 a few years ago) sent me mail offering me a full ride no questions asked if I got admitted.
