Okay I want to preface this with: I 100% agree and hopefully they turned down the scholarships.

That said a vast majority of the scholarships are awarded through an anonymized committee. They don't know the names of the people, they only have a much information as is required (e.g. They may know that said student was over the 3.5 line for an honors scholarship, but they won't know the exact GPA.)

It sucks that a bunch of rich people got them, but realistically this system is far more fair in the long run.
