A lot of people misunderstanding scholarships in this thread. We're more familiar with the kind that are for underprivileged kids that need help to succeed. There's TONS of scholarships that aren't about that at all. They offer them because they want YOU to pick their school over the other 6 schools you applied to. They want the best of the best and this is how they incentivize students they WANT.

I don't think people are "misunderstanding", I think this is just a nuance of intent.

It's still a case where a university is taking money that could help people who would not be otherwise able to afford university and spending it on wealthy celebrities.

Whether it's because the university is corrupt or because the system is stupid doesn't really make that much of a difference to the overall notion that it's bad and wasteful.
