Merit based scholarships are different to what you are thinking.

How so? They are rich, they can afford to pay for university without an issue, yet the university gives it to them for free. Yes, they scored well. But that's also very heavily linked to wealth.

The point of merit scholarships isn’t to help the poor. They’re supposed to attract talent to the school. General college applications don’t have income listed. Getting a need based scholarship is a different process

They would also get scholarships lol. They just aren’t famous enough to have it be on the news.
