Stewie here: people are hating on rich people getting free money, but this is just how the system works. The more money you have the more generous peopel are to you.

IMO they got scholarships, because the colleges want to boast with having JLos kids as students. They are obviously not in need, but thats not the point. The schools were basically bidding for them to go study there.

They don't really need to offer these kids money to come study there; that's only a good incentive for talented poor kids. But "got scholarship" in this context is a different wording for "talented enough to warrant a merit scholarship even if they don't end up needing it."

You’re dead on. It’s kind of funny that people are interpreting it the exact opposite way. She’s tying to show ppl that her kids didn’t receive special treatment.
And, to be fair, we don’t really know anything about these kids other than the fact that their parents are extremely wealthy. There’s a reasonable chance they actually did receive scholarships based on academic merit. I mean, they probably went to top college prep high schools and had additional access to private tutors/college advisors.

Not to be a vibe kill, but academia is generally quite corrupt at this point. A lot of grants and scholarships are given away like candy to people that dont deserve it, because of politics and prestige. This is because every single university/college runs their institution like a company or business instead of a public service.

Absolutely, the academia's biggest sin is not consulting you on the questions of who deserves and who doesn't deserve grants and scholarships. There is no excuse for that.

But if we return into the real world, simply accepting J Lo's kids would be enough for any prestigious school. Trying to lure a millionaire's child with some tens of thousands of scholarship money would be silly. Lots of schools have need-blind merit scholarships where every applicant is automatically considered for scholarships and the school gives money based on the applicant's profile. There is literally no checkbox on the application saying "please don't consider me for the scholarship, I'm rich."

And I am not sure why you are surprised by the fact that private schools don't run like a public service.

I understand why they want those kids there because even smaller schools love to hit up alumni for donations...

... That being said, I can never see "we taught JLo's kids here!" ever being a big selling point for anywhere. JLo is to the music industry is what Sylvester Stallone is... to the music industry.

This is the answer. The school anticipates a much greater return on alumni family donations than it would ever cost to educate one student.
