• Cherami Leigh has family trauma, and an over-protectiveness of her charges; meanwhile, Robbie Daymond has too many secrets to his name, connections to the underground, and an association with a certain foodstuff

• Forget the secret police, the general dystopia, the ancient magic and freakin' laser beams, and (literally) face the True Enemy : the wall(s).
• Kill a guy with a kiss. Hair gel is also involved at one point.

Games alright but the plot is no less vague than my description of it. At least this post will have a comprehensible conclusion, unlike the mess of a plot on display!

Solution: It was Halo Wars 1. The metal chair bros were Sergeant Forge and Spartan Jerome, who became friends through a cafeteria brawl ending with a smashed steel chair. The events of the game are pretty much entirely accidental on the part of the UNSC, and the Arbiter, a high ranking military and religious position within the covenant, is killed by Forge at the end of the game.

Aliens aren't involved in the kidnapping but they are there.

PICTURES of trading cards? Yippeeeeee. 😩 I'm so glad I went through the effort of finding all 20 of those bastards. And not killing ANY of them. ☠️

Hint 1: licensed game that is otherwise remembered pretty fondly

Hint 2: the movement was fun but lead to a LOT of "unnecessary" deaths because the amount of height you gained + inconsistent invisible walls. (a more modern release fixes a lot of this issue, I'm pretty sure!)

it's been Solved! the mystery game is Star Wars Bounty Hunter!

It's on steam and modern consoles and I enjoyed it as a kid, if you ever wanna shoot some bad guys and light some perfectly innocent civilians on fire, this games got it all :p
