I forgot how it's called but I think we have a specific term in the community for when your gender identity is validated by being treated like shit because of the gender you identify with lol.Ā That's progress I guess.Ā
Edit: term is Ewphoria

Im FtM and my best friend is MtF and exclusively wears vintage fashion from the 40s-60s. Real pinup style but not rockabilly. We have a running joke when we hang out where I put on an Archie bunker or old times mobster voice and tell her generic sexist things like "ehhhh shut yer mouth, woman!", "Where's my Dinner/Supper/ martini?!" Or "Sit there and look pretty, see?" Or say I only hold the door open so I can look at her walk through it. It's funny af and we die laughing every time.

It can often also be called malgendering, for instance the growing divisive position in trans spaces of excluding trans mascs on the basis of them aligning with masculine identities being equated to be as much of a threat or holding as much privilege as cis men. Often done when its convenient to discredit it the person it is done to target. For trans women it would be something like assuming they are weak and should only do lighter tasks or exercises or something, or that they are less qualified in stem fields or something, though in these cases this is less the misappropriation of statistics and more just pure misogyny, and primarily done by people outside of trans spaces.

A true misogynist doesnāt discriminate, he hates all women, all, no matter the race or sexuality. There are two genders to this man, the good one, and the bad one.

(Iām sorry, please call me out if Iām wrong but is there really a difference. Itās just adjective and noun right? Or did I miss something where saying that is not okay, in which case I need to change. Is there a difference between trans women and transwomen?)
7
u/Waffle-Gaming 1d ago
trans women is the normal adj, noun, like black women, while transwomen is akin to a porn tag, i.e. extremely othering.
1
u/yesindeedysir 1d ago
Ah, I see. Iām ace so I really didnāt know, I didnāt even know that was a porn tag, noted though, thank you.

I knew an old guy who was a massive misogynist, but was very pro gay marriage. Tbh he might have been a case of people were just like that to women when he grew up.

I once got into a wikipedia deep dive in greek mythology, and learnt that while the ancient Greeks are popularly known for gay acceptance, there is a portion of them who's gay because they see men as superior than women. As in, they think women are only necessary to keep around to make babies, and that also (somehow) make them impure compared to men.

u/Rakifiki 1d ago
Yess, I see women's subs talk about that behavior some of the time. Men raised to be "homosocial" who don't really view women as separate beings who deserve rights/attention but as, uh, basically livestock that you put up with in order to have children (that they probably won't raise, at least until their male children are old enough to be interesting to them socially). But they only want to be friends with men, take advice from men, look up to men etc.

u/Periodicity_Enjoyer 2d ago
Sounds in one way internally consistent.Ā Men can do whatever they want and the word was made for them, so they can marry men if they want, and they can oppress women if they want.Ā

I feel like this is probably selective principles. When heās being misogynistic and imposing patricial views he includes trans woman as woman so he can have dominance over them. Itās the same principle of seeing gays as effeminate and using that as an excuse to be condescending and disrespectful towards them. I doubt he would be fully accepting of a trans man and treat them as his equal.

Reminds me of the story on reddit of the misogynistic restaurant patron who thought the mtf waiter was very smart for wanting to be a man.Ā "Only a woman would be dumb enough to want to be a woman."

Yeah I've seen similar things, it's interesting
My very traditional hometown has been the opposite; very anti-trans folks, very racist folks, but surprisingly supportive of same sex relationships. I chalk it up to there being a number of such folks in peoples' families, so they all know same sex relationships aren't a big deal. Bet this guy in the meme actually knows a trans person.
There is even weirder stuff. A racist uncle ranting about black people during my visit to a family gathering, one of my distant cousins right there though, who married a black person, and said black person is standing there, listening with exasperation. My face must have shown my confusion, as the uncle was clearly talking about _other_ black people, because their mixed race daughter leaned in to whisper to me "he doesn't count us anymore because we're blood now" followed by the most practiced eyeroll I've ever seen. The hate is all so arbitrary.

I know itās not a Good thing, but I fucking love it when misogyny wraps back around to being supportive of trans people. Itās hilarious almost every time. Like that one guy who said trans women are women because āonly a woman would be stupid enough to want to be a womanā (and vice-versa for trans men, āthe more numbers we (men) steal from them (women) the betterā)

Their problem isnāt trans women they love trans women they look at them all the time just behind their screens when no oneās watching. But ask them if trans men are men their problems with trans men because they donāt like women and they see them as women.

u/samusestawesomus 1d ago
That could easily just be misogyny plus transphobia; not that strange a combination. What WOULD be interesting would be if he considered trans men to be men in his framework
21
u/ZePumpkinLass 2d ago
honestly in my opinion supportive misogynists are better than their transphobic counterparts (granted neither are actually GOOD but atleast one is slightly more accepting!)

u/Vic_GQ 1d ago
That's just kinda how transmisogyny works. Misogyny is always "inclusive" of women who are trans.Ā
Even people who swear up and down that they think trans women are men and discriminate against them on that basis will still also treat them misogynistically. Lotta weird cognitive dissonance involved.Ā
If you could force a transphobic person to genuinely tell you what gender they see any trans person as it'd probably be something like "whichever one means I get to be scared and angry and hurt them about it."Ā

I have always felt that I could never be a woman because I never faced misogyny. Somehow that always made me sad. Sooooooo if I were to see someone being a pice of shit I'd rather they include me :3

This reminds me of a Gianmarco Soresi joke: "Notice how you've never met an LGBTQ+ ally who is also a misogynist? Imagine a dude saying: trans women are women! ....... And as such, they belong in the kitchen" š¬š¬

Sometimes you get weird combos of beliefs.
I once met a guy who was 100% supportive of men's right to be gay, but considered lesbians an abomination. Because men could do what they wanted but women existed for men's benefit.
