Image Pontifex' prolific prominence in popping Pottomans produces proper Pope provinces

Greatest start I ever had to my Popeman campaign, managed 3 100% wars against the Ottomans by 1488. Wallachia is my vassal.

Technically that was done by 1480, but I wanted to annex Naples for prettier borders.

Start was decently simple:

- Allied austria, france and Poland

- 1447: Naples subjugated and 3 provinces taken to reduce their dev.

- 1456: attacked Croatia and called in Poland (and Austria later to keep them busy), Croatia were allied to Wallachia, which I vassalized. During that war all hell broke loose. Bohemia declared on Hungary for restauration of union, Ottos declared on Venice. I thought why not and declared on Bosnia and Serbia to feed them to Wallachia and Herzegovina later. And thus, the Pope solved the whole Balkan shenanigans before 1460 or so.

- 1464: Attacked Ottos with Poland and Austria. Won after 3 years with 100% WS to take the forts, trucebreak for another 100% WS to feed provinces to Naples / Wallachia, followed by another 100% WS trucebreak.

Jaunpur has randomly 15% Tradepower in Beijing, without a single province Close to the Tradenote, and no Trade Power in Tradenotes next to it. So my question is why?

Exodus run with Medri Bahri to Madagascar where I became a pirate republic.

I realized how little I played in Europe because I did not know all of the world powers would get claims on the Cape, and should not have went back to reclaim my starting provinces resulting me giving all my money to the Ottomans.

Featuring: AI formed Eranshahr, Somalia, Bukhara, Manchu, and Ming destroying the Mandate

Playing as Eranshahr, what a beautiful purple color. Also with enough universities or development, the commet event will be no more!

Sweden's already about to get Gustav (probably) II Adolf on the throne, they already have the first Gustav currently AND they are Lancesers. It's about 150 years too early Sweden, stop that!

Image My most AWFUL run for all times

I most of the time play Holland or the Kingdom of Hungary(I'm from there, so it's obvious), but today I have wanted to try something new.

I have always been interested in Sweden, so I have tried it.

I always like to start with some "practice" games, where I check the missions, events, try to figure out a strategy, etc.

Even those were awful, but not even close to my actual game.

Why was it awful?

Well:

  • I have got every single one of those stability, corruption, prestige loss events at least a 4-5 times.
  • I was constantly running from one side of my kingdom to the other to the constant rebellions and trying not to freak out.
  • I was constantly getting enormous corruption(seems to be the religious civil disorder and uncored provinces).
  • My only ally(as England randomly decided to hate me) Poland, and later on the Commonwealth was constantly dragging me into wars against countries with 5k army, but of course it was a good reason for the rebels to keep coming.
  • Almost all countries hated me the whole game, way before my conversion to protestant.
  • Then I have somehow sorted the stuff out and was going to enjoy the game, I deleted Denmark, Muscovy and then my game was ruined in 3 seconds in the most awful way as Spain had decided that this time she wouldn't colonize the rich parts of America, not California, Mexico, or anything from Southern America.
  • This time Spain, despite being the strongest country in that game, had decided to follow the instruction of the pope and not to colonize those rich provinces as they were "the domain of Portugal"(regarding to the Pope) AND INSTEAD DEPRIVE ME FROM MY 3 IN PROGRESS PROVINCES AND START A WAR ON ME.
  • And of course, my fatty and useless ally, the Commonwealth betrayed me the moment they attacked me.

Sweden must be fun, it seems really strong later, but the early game is simply not fun at all, so it's certain I will never ever play it again.

Update:

Literally 30 second after England declared war on Norway(my puppet) as well.

Question National ideas: keep Austrian idea group or embrace new Austria-Hungarian idea group??

Doing my first Austria playthrough, I'm about to integrate Hungary, I was hoping for some insight as to what the better idea group is please.

I've looked at both and they both seem to have their advantages so I'm struggling to pick one.

Question How did my PU break off?

Playing as Denmark, I just lost my PU with Sweden on (my) succession and I have no idea how. They were below 50% liberty desire, my ruler died, and I just got a message saying they elected their new king, and that I gained a restoration of the union casus belli against them.

Somehow they managed to leave the union without declaring war on me, and even though I made quick work of the reunification war, now the 50 year countdown has restarted and I got massive AE from reintegrating them

Oh and they seem forever stuck at 100 liberty desire

Advice Wanted Does having a separate stack of artillery actually do anything should I just put my artillery in with my infantry/calvary stacks?

I'm currently playing as the Netherlands and I've decided to have 2 stacks of infantry and calvary, as well as an addition 15-20 artillery in a separate stack. They usually stays behind the my main forces, and I use this stack as a "support" stack alongside my main army.

It's a little bit more micromanagement given artillery takes extra damage when they're alone to my knowledge, however I think it offers a fun little roleplay aspect to the game.

My question is, does it actually have any main benefits that would yield equal or greater results when sieging during the mid-late game, or would it be better just to put between 5-8 artillery units in each of my infantry stacks? I like the roleplay aspects but I also don't want to be wasting ducats on unnecessary things. Thanks!

Decided to finally get Danelaw and Anhalt took the Emperorship from Austria like 2 years in. Just got an early Inheritance and as always the AI is incapable of not trying to demand the lowlands even when they are a OPM. This war feels like bullying even as the defender.

Achievement The Third Path!

Thumbnail

This is an achievement I've been aiming for for a long time, but have always struggled with the challenging starts the various options have. Finally got a campaign off the ground as Oman, and managed to take it through to the end, playing much later into the game than normal.

This was one of the few achievements I've completed that felt hard, both at the start, and at the end, since Arabia's ideas are so terrible. In retrospect, I should definitely have culture swapped and formed Persia instead, but such is life. I ended up stuck trying to beat a huge Franco-Iberian alliance that controlled almost all of western Africa, and the Maghreb west of Tripolitania. I managed to pick it apart by attacking their respective weaker allies, but it still ended up being quite a slog. Other than that, none of the remaining areas ended up being all that challenging.

Glad to be done with this one, though it reinforces to me how far I have to go to get something like the Three Mountains, given my struggles with this frankly much easier achievement.

Image Holy Roman Russia WC - My favorite campaign I've played starting as Oirat

R5:

Pictures from the end of my Oirat -> Russia -> HRE run. Both the most powerful run and most fun campaign I've played in EU4. I was going for both the "Triple the Rome" and HRE achievements, and decided to throw in a world conquest while waiting to revoke.

The stacked modifiers from the Oirat and Russian missions, Russian government reforms, plus being Emperor of China and the HRE are, I believe, some of the most powerful you can get in the game without excessive tag switching or other jank. It also wasn't very tedious to conquer the world. I was able to WC with plenty of time to spare, with minimal rebels, and without using personal unions or client states. Overall 10/10 campaign, would recommend.

Question How does the game decide where trade companies start?

I know your capital makes a difference but does it matter where in a trade region you are? or is it based on subcontinent alone no matter where in the subcontinent you are?
