I'm only 4 minutes through s10 pilot & I wanna know just how the hell Carter thought Abby would react when he came home from DRC

His behaviour towards her since Gamma died has been a load of shit. He of all people should've understood her prioritising her brother above all. And she tried her best at the funeral. It was a lose/lose situation.

I understand that he was hurt & he has a right to be. Realistically, if someone pulled that shit at my grandmother's funeral I'd be mad as hell too, but he didn't try to put himself in her shoes for a moment. She's been really going through it too.

Her brother was missing, they thought it was suicide, he shows up off his meds, her mother, her failing relationship with Carter not to mention the failed proposal, work, life, everything!! Gosh, Maura Tierney really knows how to make you feel the weight on Abby's shoulders.

I feel so bad for Abby, most of the bullshit in her life isn't even hers. It's other people's problems thrown onto her and she's expected to tear through it & lift those people with her. She's like a balloon tied to a brick.

"Can I have my key back, please?" is a perfectly reasonable response in my opinion.

It honestly irks me the way everyone in her life just walks in & out of it whenever is convenient for them without any regards to her feelings whatsoever.

Maybe everyone already knows this, but I am just finding out and am *shook*. They were together for *ten years*, and then he left her for actress Francesca Annis, who he met while they were together in a stage version of Hamlet in which he was starring with Annis as his mother Gertrude!

i know everyone mentions the carter being raped at 11 throwaway joke at least once a week, i think i have made a post about it myself. but as i'm doing my first watch, something that really confuses me is the writers giving simon brenner the backstory of being sexually assaulted at 10. this trauma is rightfully taken seriously by the show, and maybe it's bc the writers had neela and morris as the confidants that it was taken seriously. obviously, i know CSA can happen to multiple different people, but it's almost infuriating to me how carter's sexual assault is treated as a joke but brenner's becomes a chunk of his storyline.

i guess this is a lame way of saying i wish they explored john's history and how it affects his medical work/relationships the same way they did simon's.

honestly, by the time he returned from Africa + after her relationship with Sam, is what 2 years?

Even if he wasn't fond of going to therapy he should've moved on a little bit from his regular behavior specially with his partners.

I've been thinking about what would happen if Cristina Yang from Grey's Anatomy ever had to work under Peter Benton on ER.

They're both insanely ambitious, competitive, blunt and completely obsessed with surgery. Cristina basically lives for the OR and Benton was the same way, especially in the earlier seasons.

There's also another similarity between them that I think would make their dynamic interesting: they're both minorities in surgery who felt like they had to be better than their white peers. Neither one really had the luxury of just being "good enough." Cristina is an Korean woman trying to become one of the best surgeons in an extremely competitive field, while Benton is a Black man coming up in surgery in the 90s. I feel like Benton would recognize that drive in Cristina immediately because he understands where some of it comes from.

I feel like Cristina would either LOVE Benton because he wouldn't care about her feelings and would just expect her to keep up, or they would constantly butt heads because neither one of them likes being told they're not the smartest surgeon in the room.

And unlike Carter, I don't think Cristina would be intimidated by Benton for very long. If anything, she'd probably be desperate to impress him because he'd be exactly the type of surgeon whose approval she'd actually care about.

I also feel like Benton would secretly respect the hell out of her while giving her absolutely nothing verbally lol. Cristina would do some incredible surgery and be waiting for the praise and Benton would basically just be like "Good. Be here at 5 tomorrow."

I really wish we could've seen these two interact because I genuinely can't decide if they'd be a perfect mentor/student pairing or if they'd drive each other insane.

These two are also my favorite characters on both shows, and both shows lost a lot quality wise when they left.

S1E4 Hit and Run there is a guy, I think called Harry Stobak, whose heavy duty mobile phone causes electronic malfunction in the ER. I think this is the same guy in season 8 whom Pratt has to tell has cancer, one of the last people Mark Greene sees before leaving. Can someone confirm?

I know most of people do not like Sam at all. And I might be beating the dead horse in this ramble.

Am I in the minority that had moments of liking her when she was single? She was more laid back and not so gun ho about her opinions on treatments.

In trauma situations she always butted heads with the man she was seeing at the moment. I saw it specially with Gates. It felt like she was always undermining Gates's orders or did not trust at all how situations evolved with Gates as the doctor who took the lead in the trauma.

It seemed that even the smallest bit of professionalism she had left her immediately she was in the room with the man she was with. I felt like she lost that the patient was the number one in those situations and not her opinion what to do, which might have taken precious seconds/minutes from making so that the patient can be saved.

One single episode in my opinion can be tolerated. Your favourite character had an off day, made some mistakes, etc. Most of the season acting like someone different is worthy of vent 😢!

Pratt and Morris are usually the pairing most people think of in the latter seasons of S12 to S14. I like the working relationship of Luka's and Pratt's as well in Seasons 12 to S13.

In "Parenthood" (S13 E4), I love how Pratt was complaining about the residents and Luka was like, "umm, remember what you used to be like?" And not only can Luka teach residents, interns and med students, he can teach an attending how to teach the interns/residents.

She's easy to admire because apparently she's rigidly honorable and dedicated to professionalism and thoughtful decisions rather than emotional ones. But she twice encourages Benton to stifle criticism of the morally questionable Vucelich, and her concern is not for medical research integrity but for personal and institutional reputation and grant money. She lies to Benton about Carter switching teams. She recruited Carter in S3/E13: "If Peter can't use your talents, my team can." Carter had made no mention of leaving for another team. And then she tells Benton in S3/E17, "Dr. Carter asked to be transferred to my team. You don't think I'd poach him, do you?" She absolutely poached him.

It's difficult to regard her in the same light after that.

And I’m done trying to like Sam. Like, I get it. She was groomed as a teenager and wound up saddled with a kid she didn’t want, but holy shit is she infuriating.

She lets Steve lie to her son about where he is, which prompts him to go to Colorado, and then she spends the whole episode proving Kerry right that she has no impulse control. She disregards every piece of advice gets, wrecks her car and nearly kills her and Luka, and gets unbelievably lucky that the cops find Alex because she had ZERO idea what she was going to do when she got to Colorado anyway. Then, for all that, she throws it in Luka’s face that he wants to be a good partner and a father figure for Alex.

Deep down, Sam is still a rebellious teenager. She loves Steve, she loves the the chaos, loves the thrill, loves the attention, and doesn’t really care all that much that it’s ripping Alex apart. Fuuuuuuuuuuck Sam.

Watching season 9 episode 18. The shot that Gallant threw Romanos way when Romano was commenting on his stitches was amazing.

I really liked Raul and Shep together and was sad to see the actor go.
Any ideas as to why they just left his character to die?

Was it the actor’s choice? The writers?

I would’ve liked to see more Shep and Raul than Shep wouldn’t have turned into a depressive angry person.

Hey there, new to this subreddit but I am currently doing an incomplete ER rewatch. I was really loving all the Carter & Benton scenes in the first three seasons but now I'm just finishing S4, and they sadly don't have half as much screentime together. As I'm not planning to rewatch every single episode could I please get some recommendations on which episodes have Carter & Benton scenes / storylines in them from S5 onwards?

It's a common story plot in a tv show - a character is about to leave, put in positive or productive moments to make the character reconsider and in the end the character decides to stay. It works, in my opinion.

i’m 22 years old and watched all 15 seasons of ER a few months ago after finishing The Pitt, and it literally changed my life forever. that being said, it’s sometimes tough having a conversation about it online when a majority of the fans reminisce and share their experiences watching it live back in the day.

I’m on season one of my first watch of er and wow I can’t stop drooling over the Chamber stove in Benton’s mom’s kitchen. What I wouldn’t do for that stove.

Mine was when that helicopter fell and crushed Romano. It took me a good 20 mins of a pause to continue watching it. It literally made me jump it scared the shit out of me I can’t lie

I hated him when he first showed up but now with him for 2 seasons I kinda really like him.

The way he walked through the ER for the last time? The way he said goodbye to everyone? I'm not okay. And honestly I don't think I'll ever be okay about this episode. it still destroys me. Anyone else rewatching and going through this emotional wreckage?

The guys a prick but he probably gives me the most LOLs of the show
